EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Page 7: My Project Report

In today’s rapidly changing business environment, organizations have to respond

quickly to meet the competition. The Financial market has been witnessing growth

which is manifold for last few years. Many private players have entered the

economy thereby increasing the level of competition. In this competitive scenario

it has become a challenge for each company to adopt practices that would help the

organization stand out in the market. The competitiveness of a company of an

organization is measured through the quality of products and services offered to

customers that are unique from others. Thus the best services offered to the

consumers are result of the genius brains working behind them. Marketing and

market research in this regard has become an important function in any

organization.

All practices of HR and finances can be easily emulated by recruiting well

skilled, efficient, talented and capable human resource with having well defined

recruitment policy but the competitiveness in the market cannot be reduced still

each and every organization needs to sustain in this competitive world by knowing

each other’s strategy by conducting a proper market research. It is also important

to develop various methods for marketing and sales of the product to generate

revenue because in today’s scenario the market remained as buyers market but not

the seller’s market.

Like in the case of BPO’s, IT sectors too face the problem of attrition due to

high competitiveness. Thus, marketing of products is an ongoing process carried

throughout the year. The project is based on the study of entrepreneurship as well

as product marketing. The various recommendations suggested have been the

7

Page 8: My Project Report

result of the study. The idea is to generate ways of dealing with high competition

and making the process of revenue generation manageable and efficient.

INTRODUCTION

8

Page 9: My Project Report

The Information Technology (IT) sector in India holds the distinction of advancing

the country into the new-age economy. The growth momentum attained by the

overall economy since the late 1990s to a great extent can be owed to the IT sector,

well supported by a liberalized policy regime with reduction in telecommunication

cost and import duties on hardware and software. Perceptible is the transformation

since liberalization – India today is the world leader in information technology and

business outsourcing. Correspondingly, the industry’s contribution to India’s GDP

has grown significantly from 1.2% in 1999-2000 to around 4.8% in FY06, and has

been estimated to cross 5% in FY07. The sector has been growing at an annual rate

of 28% per annum since FY01.

Indian IT companies have globally established their superiority in terms of cost

advantage, availability of skilled manpower and the quality of services. They have

been enhancing their global service delivery capabilities through a combination of

organic and inorganic growth initiatives. Global giants like Microsoft, SAP, Oracle

and Lenovo have already established their captive centers in India. These

companies recognize the advantage India offers and the fact that it is among the

fastest growing IT markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

Summarizing some key highlights of the sector in FY06:

Software and services exports were estimated to have grown by 32% in

dollar terms to exceed US$ 23 bn.

ITeS-BPO exports were estimated to touch US$ 6.3 bn, a growth of 37%

IT-ITeS export revenues from engineering and R&D services, offshore

product development and made-in-India software products touched an

estimated US$ 3.9 bn from US$3.1 bn in FY05

9

Page 10: My Project Report

Sales of Personal computers crossed 4.7 mn units; a growth of 20%

compared to 3.6 mn units sold in FY05

As of Dec 06, around 440 Indian companies had acquired quality

certification with 90 companies certified at SEI CMM Level 5, higher than

any other country in the world

The total number of IT and ITeS-BPO professionals employed in India was

estimated to have grown to 1,293,000 from 1,058,000 in FY05

Industry Structure

The size of the Indian IT industry, according to NASSCOM, has been estimated to

be around US$ 47.8 bn. The Indian IT industry can be broadly divided into two

markets: domestic market and exports market. The exports market constitutes the

largest segment accounting for 75% of the total revenue generated by the Indian

software industry.

The domestic IT market is broadly divided into the following four segments: IT

Services, software segment which includes engineering and Research &

Development (R&D) services, IT-enabled Services and Business Process

Outsourcing (ITeS-BPO), and Hardware. While IT Services accounted for 34% of

the total revenue generated by the domestic market in FY06, the Engineering

Services, R&D and Software Products segments together accounted for 10% of the

revenue. The ITeS-BPO segment, on the other hand, contributed 7%. Hardware is

the dominant segment with a share of about 49%. The domestic IT market grew at

a CAGR of 21.9% during FY02-06 to touch US$ 13.2 bn.

The exports market is dominated by the IT services market holding a share of

56.4% in the software and services exports in FY06, followed by the ITeS-BPO

10

Page 11: My Project Report

segment with 26.7% share and the software products and engineering services

segment with 16.9% share.

The Indian hardware industry is at present estimated to be in the proportion of 30%

domestic, 1.25% exports and the remaining being imports. The domestic market

itself offers tremendous potential for hardware companies, thus having very few

companies venturing into hardware exports. Imports of IT hardware which form a

large component of the industry are mainly from Taiwan, China and Korea. Lately,

however, MNCs in the hardware segment have been viewing India as a hub for

setting up hardware manufacturing facilities, for instance Dell.

IT Services Exports

Indian IT Services exports grew from US$ 10 bn in FY05 to US$ 13.3 bn in FY06,

registering a growth of 33.4%, and is further expected to reach US$ 18.1 bn in

FY07, posting a growth of 36%. Revenue from ‘projects’ dominated the IT

Services exports with a share of 58%, with outsourcing and support & training

activities accounting for 33% and 9% respectively.

11

Page 12: My Project Report

Source: D&B Research

Within the ITeS-BPO segment, Customer Interaction Services (CIS) account for

nearly India’s IT Exports XIV 45-50% of the total ITeS-BPO services exports

while finance & accounting contributes for the remaining 40-45%. Human

resource and other high-end knowledge-based processes account for 2% and 8-

10% respectively.

The Software product, Engineering services and R&D segment contributes around

17% of the software and services exports. India is well positioned in the

engineering and R&D services segment. Apart from Indian companies offering

these services, several foreign companies (both captive and third party) are also

setting up base in India to provide these services. Overseas companies operating in

sectors like high–tech, telecommunications, automobile, aerospace, heavy

machinery, construction and industrial products are looking at off-shoring their

engineering and R&D related work to India.

Few important characteristics of the Indian IT sector include:

Export intensive: Ever since the industry’s evolution, exports has been the

major contributor to the industry.

Concentration on Low-end services: Low-end services such as customised

software services and maintenance have been the key strength of the Indian

IT companies. These companies are now however moving up the value

chain offering end-to-end solutions to clients.

Labor intensive industry: The very nature of the services offered by the

industry makes human resources a significant driver for the industry.

12

Page 13: My Project Report

Fragmented industry: D&B’s in-house database has identified over 8,000

companies which operate in the IT space in India, offering a wide range of

software products and services. A large number of these companies are

unorganised players

Skewed concentration: The revenues of the top four companies, TCS,

Infosys, Wipro and Satyam, including income of their subsidiaries, account

for around 22% of the overall industry.

Emerging Trends in the Indian IT Services Industry

While the global IT players are aggressively scaling up their operations in India,

due to the advantages that the Indian industry offers, the Indian IT companies are

also preparing to tap the global market. The companies are witnessing significant

change with regard to their service offerings and geographical concentration.

Today, companies are expanding their service offerings from application

development and maintenance to high end services like testing, consulting and

engineering designing. The global delivery model has not only facilitated the

companies in delivering quality of work but also helped them to control costs.

New Service Offerings

The Indian IT companies are expanding their service offerings to provide a

complete basket of services to their clients. These new services include IT

consulting, testing, business process management and IT infrastructure services,

which in a way allows the IT companies to de-risk their business from pricing

pressures and enter into newer areas which provide them higher growth and

profitability.

13

Page 14: My Project Report

Larger Deal Size

Indian IT companies have successfully scaled up operations and made a mark in

the global outsourcing market, evident from the large deals bagged by the Indian

IT companies in the past one year, including the British Telecom-Tech Mahindra

deal which was worth US$ 1 bn, the Pearl Insurance-TCS deal (£ 486 mn), the

Skandia-HCL Technologies deal (US$ 200 mn) and the Kimberly-Clark-TCS deal

(US$ 100 mn). Most of the deals bagged by the major companies were in the

Banking and Financial Service space which reiterates the growth in this vertical.

As per the data compiled by Technology Partners International (TPI), the Asia

Pacific region witnessed a significant increase in total deals amounting to US$ 10

bn in 2006 from US$ 6.1 bn in 2005. Indian companies bagged contracts (above

US$ 25 mn) worth US$ 2.7 bn in 2006, with a market share of 25% in the Asia

Pacific region.

Growing presence of MNCs

Cost arbitrage and the availability of a large talent pool has attracted several MNCs

to India. Big players like IBM, Accenture, Capgemini and Oracle among others

have not only increased their headcounts in India but also outperformed their

global performance in terms of revenue growth. Their Indian operations are

witnessing strong growth as compared to their global business. Some of the major

global companies like Intel, IBM and CSC are cutting jobs abroad and shifting

their base to India.

Emerging Markets:

In terms of geographical contribution, the US continues to remain the key market

for Indian IT companies, accounting for 67.2% of the software and services

14

Page 15: My Project Report

(including BPO) exports from India. However, Europe is also emerging as an

important market for the Indian IT industry, considering the fact that the share of

exports to Europe from India increased from 22.2% in FY03 to 25.1% in FY06.

After the US, Indian companies are looking at the European region as a potential

market for exports and also to expand their global presence. Mergers and

acquisitions has been one of the routes that the Indian companies have adopted to

enhance their presence in European markets

Concerns for the Indian IT Industry

Though demand conditions have been optimistic, the Indian IT sector is exposed to

certain risks which may deter growth. An appreciating rupee, anticipated

slowdown in the US economy, shortage of skilled manpower, limitations in

domestic infrastructure and competition from other global players offering

manpower at low cost like China, Philippines and Vietnam can have a negative

impact on the performance of the Indian IT companies.

Besides, increasing activities of global MNCs in India will make difficult

employee retention for Indian companies. NASSCOM opines that there will be a

shortage of half a million people in the IT and ITeS segments by 2009. With an

industry attrition level hovering around 20-25% (often higher for smaller players),

companies are likely to offer an increase of 10-15% in salaries in the coming years.

On the financial front, wage inflation of 10-15% and forex fluctuation can reduce

the top line as well as the bottom line of the companies. Unless the Government

defers the withdrawal of tax incentives which is due to expire after 2009, IT

companies operating out of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs) are

15

Page 16: My Project Report

likely to witness an increase in their tax liabilities, which may reduce their

profitability further.

22

Page 23: My Project Report

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

23

Page 24: My Project Report

Marketing To start up a new spoken English institute by preparing an

institute model by conducting a market survey which further divided into

two modules.

A. . The first module was to do a market survey in different spoken

English institutes by preparing a proper questionnaire (the whole

module will be described below)

B. The second module was to visit different colleges of MBA, MCA,

BBA, BCA, colleges and to know the perception of different students

To create leads of the software’s developed by T-EYE GLOBAL by using

appropriate skills

SWOT ANALYSIS

24

Page 25: My Project Report

The SWOT analysis can serve as an interpretative filter to reduce the information

to a manageable quantity of key issues. The SWOT analysis classifies the internal

aspects of the company as strengths or weaknesses and the external situational

factors as opportunities or threats. By understanding these four aspects of its

situation, a firm can better leverage its strengths, correct its weaknesses, capitalize

on golden opportunities, and deter potentially devastating threats.

STRENGTHS

The strength of the company would be the innovation and the high quality

products. Because of these the company is able to survive in the market and still

earning a good market share comparing to its competitors

USER FRIENDLY SOFTWARES

T EYE GLOBAL is one small-scale industry in the state. It has been well accepted

and appreciated by the customers because of its user-friendly features, unique look

and feel capability and multilingual support. software’s also designed for

preparing the new order report and sending the end of day selling report for sharing

information on the web. The company also produces software’s according to the

needs and requirements of its client’s. That is these software’s can be produced or

upgraded according to customers’ needs and wants

LOW CREDIT SALES

25

Page 26: My Project Report

Due to local brands these software’s sales are continuously increasing. T-eye has

highly profitable sales with minimum credits especially in Bhubaneswar.

WEAKNESS

The authorities of T-EYE mentioned no major weaknesses but its intense

competition as our analysis is one of their weaknesses as to stay alive against a

giant as INFOSYS.

CENTRALIZATION MANAGEMENT

In T-EYE it is experienced that there is centralization of decisions. Due to which

efficiency and functionality is disturbed. T-EYE will have to change its highly

concentrated culture, in order to be more flexible.

TECHNOLOGICAL BACKWARDNESS

Above point can be described in this aspect that due to less equity it is backward in

adopting new technology.

OPPORTUNITIES

One of the greatest opportunities is that t-eye has its huge market, which is

increasing as the population of the software users are also increasing day by day

26

Page 27: My Project Report

Many firms institutions and small organizations like rice mills, shop keepers are

also using these software’s to keep their data base safe and secure.

This means that presently there is a considerable opportunity for the growth of

software’s industry.

EXPORTS

Indian IT Services exports grew from US$ 10 bn in FY05 to US$ 13.3 bn in FY06,

registering a growth of 33.4%, and is further expected to reach US$ 18.1 bn in

FY07, posting a growth of 36%. Revenue from ‘projects’ dominated the IT

Services exports with a share of 58%, with outsourcing and support & training

activities accounting for 33% and 9% respectively.

THREATS

Though demand conditions have been optimistic, the Indian IT sector is exposed to

certain risks which may deter growth. An appreciating rupee, anticipated

slowdown in the US economy, shortage of skilled manpower, limitations in

27

Page 28: My Project Report

domestic infrastructure and competition from other global players offering

manpower at low cost like China, Philippines and Vietnam can have a negative

impact on the performance of the Indian IT companies.

Unless the Government

defers the withdrawal of tax incentives which is due to expire after 2009, IT

companies operating out of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs) are

likely to witness an increase in their tax liabilities, which may reduce their

profitability further.

LEARNING AS AN INTERNEE28

Page 29: My Project Report

During the period in t-eye global solution was a great opportunity to practically

understand the field of market research and marketing.

I also express my deep sense of gratitude to T EYE GLOBAL SOLUTION for

giving me this opportunity.

This was my first experience to do work in any organization and I have no idea

about the kind of work environment in any industry.

I remember the day when I was called for interview and it was the time to put my

all theoretical knowledge in practical life.

I would also like to mention that 70% of my work done in organization does not

belong to IT but this 70% of work definitely developed my entrepreneurship

skills .the rest of 30% was based on product marketing that is promoting and

marketing of software’s developed by T-EYE GLOBAL SOLUTION

The day I joined the company I was put in two different types of jobs

1. Market survey to start up a new institute for spoken English and BPO

training which was further divided into two modules

C. The first module was to do a market survey in different spoken

English institutes by preparing a proper questionnaire (the whole

module will be described below)

D. The second module was to visit different colleges of MBA, MCA,

BBA, BCA, colleges and to know the perception of different students

29

Page 30: My Project Report

2. The second job was product marketing in which we have to visit different

schools ,, rice mills and to convince the head of institution/organization for

the purchase of the software’s.

This software’s are originally developed by T- EYE GLOBAL

SOLUTIONS. And most of these software’s are used to maintain their

database which helps in quick calculation

THE FIRST TYPE

As mentioned above the first type was to do market survey which was further

divided into two modules . during my first module was to visit different spoken

english institutes and and to know the details such as cource curriculum ,fees , etc.

the details are as mentioned below and the second module was to visit different

colleages .

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

This was my first experience to do work in any organization and I have no idea

about the T- EYE so in start I was very confused and faced a difficulty in adjusting

the environment of T- EYE but with the passage of time I gain confidence and start

enjoying my internship. Marketing job is a tuff job but with the help of my

colleagues. I learned much more form MR. radha raman sir and Vivekananda

goyal He helped me on every stage of my work. Also provide me much knowledge

about marketing.

38

HOW EXPERIENCE IMPACT MY CAREER

Working in T-EYE for eight weeks as an intern was very informative experience

for me. I got the chance to work in practical environment during the time I learnt

very important practical things about marketing these learning’s are going to help

me in professional life and as well as in my remaining courses of MBA because I

want to pursue a career in marketing.

CONCLUSIONT EYE GLOBAL SOLUTION though is not a very big brand, but it is a very good

place to work and I can also see in future the company emerging as one of a market

leader as par with other reputed companies.

39

Page 40: My Project Report

The company is working consistently on improving its quality and pursuing brand

building exercises. T- EYE GLOBAL SOLUTION provided me with a good

opportunity to make my skills stronger in marketing and marketing research. And I

am also very thankful to Mr. Vivekananda goyal and Radha raman sir my project

guide for providing me this opportunity and giving me this useful guidelines.

While doing this project I have talked with many people and came to know about

the market and I learnt that how the companies’ works and what they have to do

for retaining their position in the market. Reliance Communications has trained me

to face the challenges whatever in the market.
