Challenges faced by Young University

Lecturers

A challenge is a general term referring to things that are filled with a sense of difficulty

and victory.

methodologies

• Research based knowledge and education

• More practical and competent

• Have more penchant to imply rules and

regulations

• Can work without the pressure of success

• Ensure success in terms of university

reputation

• More prone to adopt culture of university

professionally

• More efficient and active

Self-

accountability

Self-

initiation

Honesty

Self

inspiration

• Involvement of employees in decision making

• Understanding of human behavior

• Individual willingness to improve

• commitment to ethical behavior

The most important

• Changing definition and understanding of

“jobs” and “career”

• No discussion and consultation regarding subject

distribution

• Unwilling participation

• Fear to be in hit-list of the authorities

• Fear to be victimized

Language barriers create communication gap

Why

Because Lecturers are judged according to their

English language fluency and proficiency

Not by

their knowledge and command over subject

• Pakistani educational system purely based on

reading, writing, and listening

Our examination system ignores the 4th skill that is

Speaking

Then how you can expect people from humanities

and natural sciences to be proficient in English

Language.

Language problems result in

• Stress and depression

• Individual lingers always on job hunt or compromises on

low salary and low status

• Prejudice and discrimination against male Islamic dress code and appearance in educational and professional environments • Beards

• Ankle high trousers

• Islamic caps

Why Jobs refused?

• Wearing religious and cultural symbols and dress is part

of the right of freedom of expression. It is part of the right

to freedom of religion or belief – and these rights must be

enjoyed by all faiths equally and there should be no

disparity practiced at work place and especially

educational institutions because a teachers is a

constructor of a nation. If his/her own personality will be

suppressed, the nation will suffer

• Responsibilities of a university lecturer are not clearly

mentioned in terms of time management, class

schedules, discipline maintenance, clerical duties ( gate

duties, time table making, forceful authoritative behavior

of seniors in order to check their papers and substitutions

and many other)

Unethical workload

system

Language barriers

Other challenges

• contract of employment

• collective bargaining agreement

• labor legislation that prevents

arbitrary termination

• Layoffs and lockouts

• Contract based job= insecurity

• Favoritism=insecurity

• Lack of facilities=insecurity

insecurity =lack of motivation= lack of interest

• There is always a sword of contract hanging on the

employees

• Contracts issuance on the basis of 3 months or six

months and the respective lecturer is appointed to teach

annual system?

Can happen

anytime

• If job is secure then

IF

• Male teacher talking to female student

• Female teacher talking to male students

• Male teacher talking to female teacher

THEN

Misinterpretation, Biased judgment and Misperception is done by authority and colleagues

• Due to lack of indispensable facilities, the productivity of

young staff is reduced to lowest levels.

Why are these facilities important

• Open access to knowledge

• Contact with global society

• Enhance intellectuality

• Source to keep students busy in order to

keep them away from unethical behavior

• people remember 20% of what they see, 40% of

what they see and hear, but about 75% of what

they see and hear and do simultaneously

(Lindstrom, 1994).

• multi-sensory, stimulating the many senses of

the audience

• Effective instructional medium

• Tremendous impact on learning

• Challenging and thrilling

• Lack of Research oriented environment

and facilities result in lack of cultural

understanding

• An institute must possess a research

community to churn out best students

otherwise a dichotomy will exist because

of gap in research and benchmarking

likings

"However, in the academic world, respect does not come

from how well you can teach undergraduate students, but

from research.” (Alok Mittal, managing

director)

The seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)

Favoritism: a curse as it creates "a culture of harassment, inbreeding and corruption".

• In appointments

• With female staff

• For self satisfaction

• Just for time pass

• towards pleasant personalities

May result in

• revolts

• Lack of accountability

• Disinterest

• No job satisfation

• Vs.

• Unethical enquiries and check and balance on teachers
