Magazine style

The style of the magazine is of mystery and curiosity that is the impression that it gives to the readers which interests the readers because it is not glossy or have a friendly appearance- they would want to look further into the magazine.

The harsh colours are dominant and suggest people with tolerance and clear picture of who they are individually would appreciate this type of style as it is almost unbearable.

Page 10: My Mojo Music Magazine

The male figures are portrayed as being dominant over female figures.

Mode of address is presented through the language which is old and grungy, ‘midlake danger house’ and ‘acid punk meltdown’ The reader would need to listen to the genre spoken of in the magazine because they may not understand the text. Personally I didn’t understand what was written on the front cover, ‘Rufus Wainwright’ and ‘Jeff Beck field music’ as I do not listen to this type of genre.

Front Cover This magazine is eye catching for all the wrong reasons however that is the way in which it gets the attention of its audience. The main picture is of Jimmy page is his earlier years- showcasing the youth and older generation. Immediately this would target the older generation that were familiar with pictures in his early age and enables them to reminiscent the days of their youth. This would appeal to male audiences as the main picture is of a male and looks quite intimidating the male is looking straight at the camera showing his dominance and focus, also his face looks rather pale which could have been enhanced through the use of Photoshop. This could portray the male role in society seen as egotistical also as he is not smiling. Furthermore it has a free cd and music previews which entices the reader to want to purchase the magazine.

Page 12: My Mojo Music Magazine

Despite the main picture there are only two other images of well known artists and the picture of the free cd is shown. The cover is quite dark and lacks colour which could be used to suggest mystery of the unknown. The age group is shown through the limited use of pictures on the cover as it is targeted to an older audience the use of pictures is not needed as much as if it was targeted at a younger audience. Although this magazine is of classic rock, Corinne Bailey Rae is featured which could show that they are willing to showcase other talents also they are more lenient. The colours express masculinity and the font used represents graffiti which adds to the idea of male dominating. The phrase, ‘10 for 2010’ is shown in a 3D font which shows the advance of technology. The font size vary for some of the articles suggesting the bigger fonts are used for the important articles.
