2. Incredible is something unbelievable... too good to be true. India has an amazing variety in terms of cultures, traditions, clothes, people, religion, languages, vegetation, population, landforms, soil colours, cuisine, musical instruments, vocal music, dances. And yet there's unity in so much diversity Three oceans meet at the Southern tip of India, on the North are the beautiful snowy mountains, and in between these are gorgeous hill stations, plateaus, plains, tropical forests, flowing rivers, pastures, farms, tiny towns and attractive cities WHY INDIA IS CALLED INCREDIBLE INDIA 3. The name 'India' is derived from the River Indus, the valleys around which were the home of the early settlers. The Aryan worshippers referred to the river Indus as the Sindhu. The 'Place Value System' and the 'Decimal System' were developed in India in 100 B.C. Ayurveda is the earliest school of medicine known to mankind. The Father of Medicine, Charaka, consolidated Ayurveda 2500 years ago. The value of "pi" was first calculated by the Indian Mathematician Budhayana, and he explained in the Pythagorean Theorem. Yoga has its origins in India and has existed for over 5,000 years. RELIGIONS AND SPIRITUALITY Religion in India is characterized by a diversity of religious beliefs and practices. India is the birthplace of four of the world's major religions; namely Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism 80.5% of the population of India practise Hinduism. Sikhism (1.9%), Buddhism (0.8%) and Jainism (0.4%) are the other major religions followed by the people of India Throughout India's history, religion has been an important part of the country's culture. Religious diversity and religious tolerance are both established in the country by the law and custom 5. The Muslim population thai is follower of Islam in India is the third largest in the world Christians are more then 2% of India's population. There are also Zoroastrians who even though make less then 0.01% of India's population Zoroastrianism and Judaism also have an ancient history in India 6. NAMASTE Namaste or namaskar or namaskaram is a common spoken greeting in indian sub-continent. Namaskar is considered formal version than namaste but both express deep respect. It is derived from sanskrit (namah) , it literally means I bow to you my greetings, salutations or prostration to you. Namaste is performed when a younger family member meets older relatives. 7. Spirituality FAMILY Family plays an important role in the Indian cultures.India has a prevailing tradition of joint hindu family system. MARRIAGES For centuries, arranged marriages has been the tradition of indian society through menand women have always hadthe chioce of who they want to marry. Even today ,the vast majority of Indian have there marriages planned by there parents and other respected family members, The divorce rate is extremely low compared with 50% of the United States.The arranged marriages generally have a much lower divorce rate. 8. DIVERSITY IN INDIA Cultural Diversity in India has a history of thousands of years . Indians languages, dances, clothing, Food, architecture differ from place to place within the country. It is this diversity which has created a sense of unity among the Indians. This diversity has enriched our social life. 9. Lohri In the north particularly in Punjab, the day before Makar Sankranti is celebrated as Lohri. Buddha Purnima Buddha purnima is celebrated on the full moon day in North India. Taj Mahotsav The Taj Mahotsav is celebrated in Agra for almost ten days. Baisakhi Baisakhi is celebrated as an important day by the Sikhs in Punjab. NORTH INDIA - FESTIVALS 10. Festivals form an integral part of the socio-cultural life of the people of East India. Most of their festivals are connected with agriculture as it is the main occupation of the people 15. -> Rasogolla Doi Machch (Sea Food) The states of Eastern India get heavy rainfall so rice, grown in the vast fields here, is a huge part of the local diet.
