1. All who see me deride me. They curl their lips, they toss their heads. ‘He trusted in the Lord, let him save him:
let him release him if this is his friend.’ R.
2. Many dogs have surrounded me, a band of the wicked beset me. They tear holes in my hands and my feet, I can count every one of my bones. R.
3. They divide my clothing among them. They cast lots for my robe. O Lord, do not leave me alone, my strength, make haste to help me! R.
4. I will tell of your name to my brethren and praise you where they are assembled. ‘You who fear the Lord give him praise; all sons of Jacob, give him glory.
Revere him, Israel’s sons.’ R.

Responsorial Psalm
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
Gospel Acclamation:
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory! Christ became obedient for us even to death, dying on the cross.
Therefore God raised him on high and gave him a name above all other names. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory!
Our Lenten journey is coming to its climax. This Sunday we commemorate the
solemn entry of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem. The gospel narrates that the people
welcomed him with great rejoicing. They spread out their garments and with Olive
branches they sang Hosanna to Him. They received him as the King coming to save
them. By joining in the jubilant celebration we are entering with Jesus in to the Holy
week. Holy week for us is one of victory and at the same time an intense time of
suffering. Victory, in the sense that we shall participate in the resurrection of the Lord.
Suffering, in the sense that we are staying back from our usual appetites and interests to
feel more one with the Lord. The same people who sang ‘Hosanna’ to Jesus, after a
couple of days said ‘crucify Him’. If we can meditate on this event of Jesus we can find
that we are not different from the situation. Sometimes we also feel that the friends
who enjoy our company will say like Peter, ‘I do not know him’.
We have been preparing for this week for the last five weeks and
gain the spiritual strength we need to journey with the Lord. At
the start of the Lenten journey we were advised to take upon the
threefold maxims, i.e. Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. Looking
back we can say that we have been faithful to these practices. But
still there is something to carry forth in our life. We shall not stop
the practices, but continue in our life what we have enjoyed
doing during this season of Lent. That will bring more happiness
into our life. All the more even if our friends reject us we will never be downtrodden.
But will be going forward with the victory of the Lord. This is the power we draw
from the Easter mysteries. Let us celebrate it well. Let each of us personalise the Easter
celebrations.
This weekend we also hear the sad news that Sr Kathleen is retiring from her
ministry in the parish as pastoral assistant. For the last twenty years, she was the
Matriarch of this parish at Mandurah. Parish priests have changed several times, but the
influence Sr Kathleen had on this community is wonderful and beyond words. It will
never be forgotten. The sick and the homebound will be missing her very much. When
I came to this parish, I had no predecessors to help me understand the daily schedule. It
was Sr Kathleen and the office staff who helped me learn and understand the life here
in Assumption. She expressed her desire to retire at the beginning of my ministry here.
But to my request she has continued for five years now. I have no more voice to cancel
her request. We will surely plan out a fitting farewell and appreciation of her dedicated
service at Assumption towards the end of this month. Let us keep her in our prayers
that the dedication and commitment she has shown in her ministry may be rewarded
by the Lord and Mother Mary in abundance.
God bless you all Fr Xavier Mathirappilly
Our Parish will again be portraying the Easter Story by presenting the Stations of the Cross
on Good Friday (14 April) on the Eastern Foreshore in Mandurah at 9:00 am. This presentation will be staged in an area between the Rotunda and Gloria Jean’s Coffees.
Good Friday is traditionally set aside in the Church calendar to commemorate the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Some of our parishioners will be giving a very moving presentation of this event.
Everyone is encouraged to dress as a member in the ‘crowd that followed Jesus’.
All you need is a simple dress: shawl, coloured cloth, long dress or skirt, etc.
People for the Washing of the Feet on Holy Thursday,
please be at the Church at 6.30 pm for practice.
RECONCILIATION Communal Reconciliation will be on Holy Tuesday, 11 April,
from 7 pm to 8 pm.
My good friends, this ramble is all about you and me! On this Holy Week, I share with you my huge love and thanks for being my companions for 20 years! Those 20 years I cherish They are very warm colourful patch of my life. But now I take Leave as Pastoral Assistant. Had planned to take it when our Carmelite Priests arrived 6 years ago, but now is the time. All going well I will continue to reside here among you to retire, relax and follow a little dream for ‘newish’ ministry.
Fr Xavier blesses me and I him. He is a great priest, and I have every confidence in the new! As Fr Albin said, “Every Saint has a past and every sinner has a future!” So we can all travel on together happily knowing our God loves us every way we are! Shower of blessing always.

EASTER SUNDAYEASTER SUNDAYEASTER SUNDAYEASTER SUNDAY (No Evening Mass)
Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. The crowds
spread their cloaks and palm branches on the street and shouted “Hosanna to the Son of David” and
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” to honor him as their long waited Messiah and King.
The donkey was a symbol of peace; those who rode upon them proclaimed peaceful intentions. The
laying of palm branches indicated that the king or dignitary was arriving in victory. —sharefaith.com

- My Grace is Sufficient for You. -
Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference. The words of Robert Frost, I feel, have in fact came true in my life. I am the lone son of my parents besides my sister. My father died just after 52 days of my sister’s birth. We haven’t directly seen his dead face. He died in Delhi and was buried there. But our mother had courage like a sage and she stood for us, to bring us up and never bothered about her life. At the age of 15, I joined the Carmelite order, exactly on 16th June 1997. People
used to ask me several times: why did you join seminary? You have the
responsibility of looking after your mother and sister. But the words of my
mother were my strength-“You can take your own decision. Don’t worry about
me. God will take care of me”.
I was ordained on 12th April 2010 and received my first appointment in Odisha,
a mission land in India itself. For the next four years I was working as the
formator of the seminary brothers. In 2014, I was appointed the chaplain to Poor
Clares cloistered nuns and the spiritual animator to the Jesus Youth Movement.
I thank the Lord for the past wonderful and grace filled three
years. Now I am here, a wonderful place. My prayer is “Lord
help me to be always faithful to you and serve thy people with
complete dedication”.

LENTEN STORY . LENTEN STORY . LENTEN STORY . LENTEN STORY . Aloma from the Philippines
When Typhoon Santi destroyed her home in coastal Philippines, Aloma
feared for her family’s safety and their future. Extreme weather events such as typhoons and
cyclones are a common occurrence in this country, threatening the safety and food security of
many families. In the Philippines, GDP per capita is around one-tenth that of Australia’s, and life
expectancy is around 14 years lower. Poverty is the single most important factor determining
vulnerability to natural disasters, which makes communities like Aloma’s particularly vulnerable.
However, confidence began to replace fear for Aloma as she began participating in the Integrated
Community Development Program (ICDP) in 2011. The program, run by the Socio Pastoral
Action Center Foundation Inc., is supported by Caritas Australia. It helps communities to prepare
for disasters, and adopt environmentally friendly practices. Aloma’s training in disaster risk
reduction empowered her to take a leadership role in her community in caring for the
environment. She manages logistics during natural disasters, and encourages the families in her
village to plant mangroves for land conservation.
The program also offers guidance on working together for the common good. As a result, Aloma
says, “All the skills that I learned, I pass on to friends and neighbours.” Aloma’s community now
cares for their common home together, and Aloma sees a brighter future for her children.
REFLECTION. Today we process into the Church accompanied by shouts of ‘Blessed is he
who comes in the name of the Lord!’, only to hear, in the second Gospel of the day: ‘Crucify
him! Crucify him!’ What do we do with this? How can we go forward and not be
manipulated by the crowd that shouts ‘Hosanna’ one moment, and a week later calls for
Jesus’ death?
Perhaps the best way to travel this last week — the only week in the Church’s year that we
call Holy — is to do so in the company of the poor and the broken, the marginalised, the
innocent, the abused. If we are to stand at the foot of the cross with Mary and John and hear
Jesus make us all his brothers and sisters, and hear him say, ‘Behold this is your mother, this is
your son,’ then let us, like Jesus, empty ourselves. And let us follow him.
Just eight hours flying time from Australia live our neighbours on the islands of the
Philippines. Here extreme weather has caused extraordinary devastation. Aloma and her small
children have already journeyed from tragedy to triumph through her work with Caritas
Australia’s local partner, Socio Pastoral Action Center Foundation Inc. Now there is fresh hope
of a more secure future for her family, and her whole community.
“Humanity,” says Pope Francis, “has the ability to work together in building our common
home.” As we leave the church, we do so in silence in order to reflect on this most important
task during this Holy Week.
