2. In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms andconventions of real media products? 1

  • STYLE MODELS I RESEARCHED :
  • NME, Q, Mojo, The Rolling Stones and MixMag.
  • WHY I DID NOT USE THESE GENRES :
  • Genres of music I did not know a lot about.
  • Not as interesting to me as Q.
  • Harder to find models for.
  • STYLE MODEL :
  • WHY :
  • A genre of music I am interested in.
  • I liked the clean cut layout and crisp simplistic colour scheme.
  • I believed it would be a fun genre to chose because I wanted a magazine which would also keep me interestedas well as being a genre of music I knew a lot about.

3. FRONT COVER The boxed style logo. A big dominate image to fill the majority of the thirds. Placing the issue date/ price(Pounds and Euros)and website in the bar code box. Banner Slogan. In block simplistic capitals.Positioning the text around the artist. The artists names/titles in block red capitals and the information in smaller lower case letters. Ared, white and black colour scheme through out. 1 4. CONTENTSPAGE 1 Smaller image of front cover in the corner. Review section of a latest band/artist in the bottom third. Red boxes to divide up the information. Issue number clearly visible in the top thirds. White boxed images. Regular features which can be found in every issue. Every feature has a synopsis which is smaller and lower case compared to the capital block page feature titles. 5. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD 1 Big capital letters of the artists name. A large posed image. The artist is the focal point. No large background. Page number/ website/ issue/ logo all along the bottom of every page. In small black capitals. A big red, eye catching quote. Underlined title. A small image of the logo to signify, end of interview. New Question in block red capitals. Not worded as a question. Worded in the artists own words.(remains personal) 6. 1

  • FRONT COVER
  • Idevelopedthe image of my main artists image.
  • I decided to turn the image black and white. This made my magazine cove look more stylish and unusual therefore it was not copying Q magazines convention.
  • Ichallengedmy style models conventions by placing the name of my main artist across the front cover in big, clear letters. I got this idea from the other style models I analysed The Rolling Stones and Mojo.
  • Idevelopedthe another convention of Q magazine by changing the circles featured on the cover. The circles include a thin black line all the way around them. I decided to recreate this so that is fits my codes and conventions of rewind magazine. Instead of using a solid line I decided to use dashes - - -. Striped dashes is what can be seen on a TV when a video is rewinding hence Rewind ----.
  • CONTENTS PAGE
  • Ichallengedmy style models codes and conventions by adding the name of my magazine rewind to the contents page. Q do not do this however I believed it looked better if the magazine name ran throughout, keeping it consistent.
  • Idevelopedthe layout style of my style model. I wanted my magazine to include its own quirky style therefore I decided to play about with layout, switching the sides the information appeared on. All the magazines I analysed displayed the features/regulars down the right hand thirds so I decided to do it oppositely in my music magazine.
  • Idevelopedmy contents page, from my style model Q in one other way. I decided to change the pages numbers to red, instead of black, which is featured in Q. I did this because I like to see page numbers stand out in a magazine so that I can clearly see where this feature can be found within a magazine.
  • DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
  • Idevelopedmy double page spread left hand page by deciding to change my artists name from horizontal to vertical because I did not want it to look boring and the same as how her name is featured on the front cover. This change is something I really like. It allows the image to be the focal point plus anyone whom wants to read her article would more than likely clear know who she is.
  • IchallengedQs conventions by deciding not to include the boarder which they use for every article featured within the magazine. I believed this was an unnecessary feature for my magazine because my magazine is more angular compared to their rounded softer magazine.
  • Ichallengedthe conventions of this particular article which I analysed because it does not feature a dropdown letter but I added one into my article, however I did look at other Q articles to help me with get the codes and conventions correct and some articles featured a page length red drop down letter. I tried to add this to my magazine however it did not suit my style therefore I decided to go with a traditional drop down letter.

In what ways does my mediadevelop or challengeforms andconventions of real media products? 7. How does my media product represent particular social groups? 2 CLASS AND STATUS: Working Class I wanted my magazine to be a piece of enjoyment and help people to search for their dreams. The article featured in my magazine enforces this as its about a normal teen whos dreams came true due to determination. Working class people are often led to believe, unless their middle class, or privately educated they will not make something big of themselves. GENDER: Mainly Females because of the styles of image and articles featured. The images are feminine, rather than sexual, like featured in my style model Q .The article its self, focuses on emotional issues morethan my style model does. I decided to develop Qs article by delving deeper into a artists life because this is what my target audience wanted to see. AGE: Teens and young adults. 15 25. The magazine is fun, the images have personality with in them rather than being airbrushed to the point of looking plastic. The Topics featured relate to this age group. (fashion, education, new bands, real life) rather than I world then know nothing about. 8. What kind of media institution would distribute my media product and why? 3 Order directly from www.rewind.com Music channel mentions about the latest issue.MTV, Chart Show TV, 4Music, The Box ect. An ITunes page Where by a member of the public can order a online copy straight to an ipod/iphone. 9. 3 Distribution company Other countries abroad can easily purches the magazine through www.rewind.com for a small shipping price of 2.00 or purches it off Itunes for a extra 1 than British citizens. 10. Who would be the audience for my media product? Fact File Name:Kathryn Age:17 Years old. Gender:Female I like the artists the magazine promotes. It promotes a healthy way of leaving as well as showing good famous role models which is something we now lack in todays life. its clear that you have use the styles and conventions from your style models as it looks like a real music magazine would Fact File Name:Sarah Age : 18 Years Old. Gender:Female The artists rewind feature is exactly what I like to read about plus the magazine is easily affordable 3.60 and easily visible from a shop shelf. Fact File Name:HattieAye:16 Years Old. Gender:Female The layout of Rewind is so clear and an easy pleasurable read. The double page spread image is the strongest image and I like these unique style of images. I like the traditional red, white and black colour scheme and the genre of music rewind features Rewind magazine includes the artists and features I expect to find in a typical music magazine. 4 11. How did I attract/address my audience? 5

  • Before I began creating my magazine I carried out lots of research to discover what my target audience wanted to see:
  • Free Posters or CDs
  • Natural fun images
  • Real stories which also relate to how they achieved their dream
  • Plenty of musical information
  • a realistic price.
  • Target audiences advice on how to improve rough-cut:
  • Make contents page clearer and easier to read
  • The quotes on Double page spread were not eye catching , or clear enough.
  • More questions on the Double page spread,.
  • Want to know more about her future in music.
  • Make the artists name Abbie Quinn stand out more on the Front cover
  • Aims:
  • Aimed at working class teens and young adults therefore the language used is colloquial and informal,
  • The article on the double page spread is straight from the organs mouthmeaning that it has not been reworded to appeal to a higher class of people it has been left as after all the magazine is promoting realistic people.

What have I learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? 6 Adobe Photo elements 4.0 Before: I had never used the software. I was unsure about it at to be honest I disliked it a lot. After:I am now familiar with the software and I believe I will continue to use it in the future. Microsoft PowerPoint Before:I have always used this software. Its easy to use and a create way of displaying work. After:I will still continue to use the software.Blog on Blogger Before: I had never this online account. Unlike photoshop, I liked it a lot. After:I wont use blogger again unless it is for school work. I am not a online blogger person however its a create invention for keeping school; projects all together. Photoshop is a advanced piece of software and it was hard to get to grips with. Learning all the tools and remembering where they were located was a main problem for me, but once I started to learn the task became a lot more easier. Blogger is such a simplistic software that it was so easier to negotiate around. I could access it anywhere I had internet therefore keeping unto date with the uploads was so easier. All I needed to do was create an account using my email account and create a password. So simple and easy. Power point I used for my evaluation to display my finding. It worked well. I was able to show my audience my evaluation as well as talking over it, adding additional information. Software 18. 6 Photography Front Cover Double page spread Dominating stance to show confidence so that the audience will buy the magazine. Medium Shot. Getting a little more up close the artist. Long shot. Same style as my style model. I wanted natural lighting so that the pictures remained natural, something I discovered target audience liked while researching existing magazines. Placing her hand round her mouth creates a pose like she will reveal all I wanted warm lighting to create a luxurious feel to the photograph. I turned the main light out in the room and blocked all light from entering. I then turned a small night on and used the flash on the camera to capture the image. 19. 6 Photography Contents Page Contents Page I chose a plain wall to take the image. For this image I wanted a small rim of shadow around the artist, so that the image stood out. Close-up/ medium shot. I had a tricky task of cutting the image out using magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop as the background was made up of students display work. Image was taken the school music room, using natural school lighting. Small Medium image. 20. 6 PhotoShopTools Clone Stamp. Text Tool. Eraser Tool. Background tool/foreground tool Move Tool. Healing Tool. Crop Tool. Magnetic Lasso. 21. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? To begin with I believed the preliminary task was going to add unneeded pressure onto me, however I was wrong. It helped me improve my skills dramatically, therefore when I started my music magazine I was well prepared for the challenge.

  • I started with the contents page which many people did not understand.
  • It made me sure I would not only focus on the making the cover look nice which I found out to be one of my weaknesses.
  • It allowed me to decide early on what features would be found within the school magazine Wave

I had even less time than was allocated due to missing the date it was set therefore my time had to be managed really strictly. Style of images and design of images was a big problem for me. I was unsure of what images I wanted to use and how I would take them in the short period of time I had been allocated. This task was challenging. I couldnt remember where any of the tools were on Photoshop elements 4.0 because before this course I had never used the software. SCHOOL MAGAZINE. 7 22. C O N T E N T S P A G E MUSIC MAGAZINE. Rough Cut Final Removed the red boxes and replaced them with more neutral simplistic ones. Retook my images, to gain better quality images. Added red and black lines between the features, to fit my style model. Took out the Eliza Doolittle image due to the model being unable to make the retake photo shoot. 7 23. D O U B L E P A G E S P R E A D MUSIC MAGAZINE. Rough Cut Final Changed the position of the title, from centred to Align left. Added the artists name to the left hand column to fill the empty space. Changed the titles colour to black. Played around with the colours in the image to create a more natural image. Added a drop down letter. Removed the quote as I had two present within the article its self. Moved the introduction so that it filled the empty gap I had. Added more Questions. Made the quote stand out more by only using one. 7 24. F R O N T C O V E R MUSIC MAGAZINE. Drop the artists name down. Changed the colour of Abbie Quinn font. I changed very little on my front cover because a gathered minimal response from my target audience about how I could improve the cover. The two little details I did change were suggested through the feed back sheets a received on my rough cut. Rough Cut Final 7 25. REWIND MAGAZINE.
