As a future educator I believe it is my responsibility to provide my students

the tools necessary to be active members of our society when they grow up.

Children are our future and in order for them to be ready for what life is they need

to have a proper education. A proper education is more than filling up students

head with math, writing and science. Students should know about these subjects

and many more as they are essential but a proper education should also provide

the students with the tools and guidance to grow as individuals.

A school is more than an institution where children go to learn. It is also

where students learn and help define who they are as a person. School should

be a place where students feel safe, understood and can freely express their

ideas and concerns. I believe a school should provide students with an

environment where they can engage socially and also learn they become active

members of the school. When a student feels part of the school they are more

willing to engage in their learning and take more prides in the work they do. The

most important thing a school should provide their students are teachers who

take interest in the success of their students.

A teacher is my opinion is the one of the most important role models

anyone can have. As a teacher I want to provide my students with a classroom

where they can voice there opinions freely and feel part of a community. Creating

a sense of community is very important in a classroom. To do this I will have

class meetings and I will also let the students help me create rewards and

consequences they can agree to and seem fair to them. To me a teacher should

be a guide to the students when they teach, meaning they will let the students be

part of the lesson. As a teacher I feel it is more important the way we teach than

what is thought. I want my students to be able to think for themselves and be

able to ask questions if they dont understand a subject. I want to provide my

students with lectures, discussions, work group and also individual work. When

this type of instruction is present I believe students learn more and become more

active in the classroom. When providing this type of instruction I will also be

helping students with different learning styles like visual, auditory and tactile

learners. A teacher should also have high expectations for their students, if they

dont the students will never try to better themselves. If students know that they

have the support and encouragement of their teachers they should have no

problem meeting and exceeding these expectations. This will also help create

pride in the student. Pride in them and their work is something essential to their

personal growth. That is what a teacher should provide and be to their students.

I agree with the philosophies of progressivism and postmodernism. In

progressivism I agree the educational goal should be for students to acquire the

ability to function in the real world and develop problem solving skills. The

curriculum should emphasize on problem solving and skills needed in todays

world. With the postmodernism I agree that teaching methods should include

discussions, role play and stimulation and personal research. The learning

environment should be community oriented and self regulated. I think o a

combination of these two would be the perfect educational philosophy.

In conclusion my educational philosophy is one where the students have a

school where they feel safe and welcomed and can freely express themselves.

The role of a teacher is one of a role model and guide. At the end what they learn

is important but what we help them become in this society will be the most

    important lesson given.
