Reader Rabbit and I!Reader Rabbit’s Interactive Reading

Journey 2 was my first digital experience with words, phrases, and grammar.

As I played this game, I learned a lot about how quickly I caught onto the information taught to me. As I learned I had so much fun at the same time! My favorite part was matching the given word with its synonym from the choices. After completing the task the cocoon would metamorphose into a pretty butterfly and dance for you!

My first Animated Storybook…101 Dalmations

This animated storybook was my next step in my digital literacy experience. Other than the fact that I loved 101 Dalmation’s, this storybook provided an interactive way for me to put phrases together and read. I began to realize that I learn a lot better and more effectively through visual aids. During some of the storylines, you were given the option to click on one of the words and see what it means through the actions of the characters in the picture. I loved what this storybook offered me, and I played it over and over again.

Learning how to use Microsoft Word…

Before entering Junior High, my mom forcibly set me at the computer desk and made me complete the Microsoft Word Tutorial. The only interesting partner I had was the paperclip guy who guided me through the tutorial. I didn’t have an amazing with this one, but it taught me a lot and prepared me for high school. I learned how to properly set up different fonts, indentation, paragraph spacing, sizes, how to save files, and how to open files. I realized that this was when the serious part of my life was setting in. I knew then that I was no longer a tiny little kid.

MySpace

Before entering High School, with much deliberation and begging, my mom finally gave me permission to create my own MySpace. This was my first experience with social networking. My mom actually set up and started my MySpace, installing all of its privacy settings and limitations. At first she did not let me post my picture on it. It could only be something I was interested in like an animal, city, cartoon, etc. Over my high school years, MySpace taught me a lot of about identities online compared to identities offline. Many can alter the view of ones self because they have complete control of it on the Internet. Mainly, I knew it was important to be care when socializing on the Web.

Then I had to get a Facebook…xD

To my surprise I eventually got bored with my MySpace and deleted it. Then I finally got a Facebook. Here, things feel a lot more grown up and simple. I use my Facebook to stay in touch with family, friends, and classmates. Due to Facebook, I can still stay in touch with my classmates from Middle School! It’s interesting to see what my Friends are up to so from time to time I visit my Facebook. My “MySpace Days” weren’t about staying in touch, it was all about status, ranking, and identity. On Facebook, it’s all about staying connected with my network.

My new love & addiction…Tumblr

Before entering College, I discovered Tumblr through my good friend Patricia. Tumblr is the first and only blogging network I am apart of (so far). On Tumblr, I can blog (type up) my thoughts, feelings, experiences, jokes, memories etc. I can also choose to “Follow” certain Tumblr’s some that talk about fashion, photography, film, comedy, love, art, etc. Here I practiced putting my thoughts on “paper”. Tumblr helps me with my flow, writing, and expression. It acts as my online journal. I never thought journaling my personal interests and experiences would be fun, Tumblr definitely changed my mind.
