The good per- formance obtained with their B180HD shortened the investment return period and Tugzemin added one B250 PDW (Pull Down Winch) to their fleet in May 2007 followed lately by one B125 in November 2007. Istanbul, with almost 15 million habitants, crossed by the Bospho- rus, has a big traffic problem. One of the big junction projects inIstanbul was the “Seyrantepe” project.Seyrantepe is the name of the newregion where Galatasaray football clubwill have its brand new stadium in. Theexisting metro line is also expanded tocross Seyrantepe. In order to preventcongestion in this region, also a roadjunction to TEM (Trans European Motor-way) which connects Asia to Europeover the Bosphorus, was constructed.Despite Tugzemin was a newly estab-lished company in 2006, they were

awarded by the Istanbul MetropolitanMunicipality the foundations work ofthe TEM – Seyrantepe connectionwhere 11000 meters of 800 mm diame-ter and 32000 meters of 1000 mm diam-eter piles have been constructed on anon-homogenous soil consisting ofhard sandstone under the overburdenand limestone underneath. Tugzeminhas started the job with their B180HDand then added the B250 PDW to com-plete the job in a record period of 9 months.

KARMA A.S. was founded in 1994 inIstanbul, Turkey by Mr. Vedat Yapanar. Mr. Yapanar’s first collaboration withCasagrande took place during theearly ’80s while Mr. Yapanar wasworking within Kofisa, the tradingorganization of the larger Turkish pri-vate conglomerate, the Koc Group. The growing market demand forCasagrande rigs was the main rea-son why Mr. Yapanar decided toestablish Karma A.S. in 1994 on hisown, forming service facility and hir-ing Mr. Muvaffak Mazici as servicemanager. Mr. Mazici’s wide experience ofequipment maintenance acquiredduring many yearswithin STFA has beenthe major contributionto the continuousimprovement of Kar-ma’s after sale organi-zation.By early 2002 Karmagrouped its commercialand service activitiesfor Casagrande in a2000 m2 facility (officeand workshop) over atotal of 9000 m2 landlocated about 60 km far from Istan-bul. Thirty-five employees are cur-rently in Karma’s payroll.Another major step in improving theorganization was the hiring of Mr.Olcay Celebi as after sale manager in2003. Mr. Celebi has been able totransfer his experience on the mainte-nance of foundation equipmentacqui-red within Kasktas.

Also, after completinghis industrial engineer-ing degree in the U.S.A,Mr. Vedat Yapanar’sson, Sinan Yapanar, now 24, has joined Kar-ma in the beginning of2006 as a Casagrandesales representative.Along with the growingTurkish market and thefact that a significant

number of big Turkish contractorshad acquired new projects abroad,Karma have succeeded to becomeone of the Casagrande leadingagents in only two years time.Casagrande, initially known better inTurkey for small crawler dril l ingmachines such as C6 and C8,became one of the most preferredhydraulic piling rigs brands duringthe last two years increasing consid-erably its market share also in thelarge drilling segment. Despite the high competition andthe long delivery time due to theraising demand of special founda-tion equipments in Turkey as well as

all over the world, Karma succeededto improve drastically Casagrandeoverall market share. So, thanks tothe Karma’s team performance, theoutstanding efficiency of the equip-ments delivered and the reliability ofthe after sale support, Casagrandedefinitely became a major player insupplying rotary piling rigs in theTurkish market.

COMPANY’S NEWS

The news letter for customers, agents, staff and friends IN DEPTH news

In 2003 at INTERMAT, I signed up theCasagrande Agency for South Africa little did I know what was in store forme in the next 5 years! I had earlier registered and createdPILEQUIP SA as a Specialist geotech-nical Supply company. I knew Southern Africa lacked a spe-cialist local based company like thisto whom the local customers couldspeak and see on a regular basis. I did not know however, how I wouldbe received and how I could succeedas an agent, since historically SouthAfrican contractors all spoke directlyto the OEM s (Original EquipmentManufacturers)

Time would tell. The 2 dormant years in 2004 and 2005proved tough but also gave mechance to assess and build a struc-ture that would be needed. It also gave me time to change mymind set from that of Contractor toSalesman!

The world upswing in constructionstarted in 2006 and is still with ustoday. The local South Africanupswing was following suite and stim-ulated by the award of FIFA 2010World Cup to South Africa. This economic boost gave the con-struction industry and the local pilingcontractors the confidence to invest infoundation equipment upgrade andrefurbishment programmes.

From mid 2006, 35 Casagrande unitshave been sold locally to our SouthAfrican contractors. The pleasing fact was that the localresilient South African contractorsrose to the challenge and all grew insize rather than allowing foreign con-tractor “to come and go” as oftenhappens elsewhere in Africa. The “fleet” is made up of a mix of C4,C6, C8, B125, B170, B180HD, CFA 25and CFA 26 plus one for specialistlimited access M3D. In this occasion I would remind themajor South African Contractorswhich invest on Casagrande and Pile-quip:

ESOR LimitedFollowing a successful listing on outlocal stock exchange, “JSE” embarkedon a massive recapitalization projectin which their fleet of old Hughes Dig-gers was completely revamped withmodern B125 and B180 auger units.

Stefanutti & Bressan PilingThis piling division of Mr Gino Ste-fanutti was started in 2003 and had 5

successful years of growth to nowstand as one an upcoming well estab-lished contractor .

Franki AfricaSouth Africa and most probablySouthern Africa leading geotechnicalcontractor continues to build its later-al support and Jet Grout divisionsaround Casagrande track drill unitswith deliveries of C4 ( radio control )C6 and C8.

This success was a compilation ofeconomic boom , teamwork salesfrom area manager Andrea Babbo(who has been in charge of the southafrican market since 2001), localcontractor understanding and mostof all thanks to a strong geotechnicalpiling knowledge so that all the con-tractors’ needs could be easilyunderstood and translated into cor-rect product selection at an afford-able price. This teamwork success betweenCasagrande and PILEQUIP continueseven now in form of specific trainingcourse both local and in factory.A structured ordering and consign-ment approach to both certain popu-lar rigs and spare parts has beenimplemented so as to keep this win-ning combination ahead of orderdelay periods and ahead of the oppo-sition in terms of local market com-mitment

My PILEQUIP dream of 2003 hasbecome reality and now will bewidened to form a complete supportsystem of Service Support, Mainte-nance Plans and Operator Trainingprogrammes.

Casagrande introduces the South African agencyPilequip Sa.South Africa dream becomes reality for Pilequip SA, as explained by Mr. Boyd Cousins – the owner – in the following interview.
