Coffee and donuts will be available in the Exhibit Hall, on the northeast side of the high school

campus, the cafeteria located in Building A and the lobby of Building H.

A first aid center will be located in Building H, Room 126. The Kroger Pharmacy of Mt. Vernon,

will have flu and pneumonia shots available on both days at 7:45 a.m. The cost is $21.00. (Flu

shots have the H1N1 in the shot.) Pneumonia shots are $70.00. Families of participants can get

their shot(s) here, too. Some insurance groups can be billed. Please ask nurse upon entry.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please see the registration table in the lobby of

H building.

You asked, you received a built in lunch hour! Organizations will set up stands for food and drink for participants between Building A and F AND in the Exhibit Hall, L-Building from 10 a.m.

to 2:00 both days. The cafeteria in Building A will be available for seating.

Enclosed see maps for available parking lots; the closer parking lots will fill early. Parking space

on campus is limited. Shuttle service is available from the Park Plaza (located on S. 10th St.

behind IGA) to the high school campus on Thursday, Oct. 24 & Friday, Oct. 25. Shuttle pick

up from the conference will be in front of Building H; please look for signs.

CPDU labels will be provided at the conclusion of the keynote, Historical Village Tour, and in

the Exhibit Hall. For placement of these labels, see page 54 of the conference program. No CPDU labels needed for individual sessions! Individual sessions will have sign in sheets for

participants who enter.

TOPIC: “DO YOU KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT ME TO TEACH ME?”

Over his 32 years in education, Stephen has been a classroom teacher, assistant prin-

cipal, principal and director of secondary education. Most of his experiences have

been in schools that made significant growth in short periods of time thus, result-

ing in both National and State Blue-Ribbon distinction. Stephen is founder of the na-

tionally recognized Gentlemen’s & Ladies Club programs, which provide options for

thousands of at-risk and honor students throughout the United States. Stephen is cur-

rently CEO & President of The Peters Group, a national education consulting com-

pany. The Peters Group has a track record of creating and sustaining success in

schools and districts by supporting educators through a 3-step process of teaching

and learning. Stephen has recently partnered with American Reading Company

(ARC) to reach as many educators as possible. ARC (www.americanreading.com) is a

leader in school transformation. Together, Stephen and ARC form a great education

team. Stephen’s latest book, Choosing to Believe: Creating a Framework for

as an education expert with former U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Rod Paige in

“In-School Bowling” This workshop will cover the methods used to teach the fundamentals of bowling; ways to adapt the In-School Bowling Curriculum to all grade levels; activities to integrate the bowling curriculum into the classroom; how to incorporate fitness into the bowling curriculum; and a warm-up routine that reviews the fundamentals of bowling. The workshop will be broken down into two sessions, including a short classroom period to cover the available resources that will enhance the teaching of the bowling fundamentals, the rubrics, and the academic activities. From 1988-2008, he engaged in the private practice of law and also served 2 terms as Gallatin County State’s Attorney. While in practice, he was involved extensively in civil trial and appellate work representing individuals, businesses, and governmental entities throughout southern Illinois. In 2008, Judge Foster was elected resident Circuit Judge in Gallatin County and he currently serves as a Circuit Judge of the Second Judicial Circuit presiding over criminal, civil and juvenile cases.

Judge Barry Vaughan graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Law and was elected state’s attorney of Wayne County in 1988. After serving two terms, he had a general law practice for six years until his election as judge. He currently serves on the Illinois Supreme Court committee for Courtroom Security. Barry also serves as a custody mediator in family cases and as a Peer Mentor Judge for the Illinois Supreme Court.

In 2010, he realized a life-long dream of publishing a book of historical fic-tion, Covered Wagon Odyssey, which chronicled a 500-mile trip his grandparents, Andrew and Mary Knapp, made in a covered wagon from Abilene, Kansas, to Xe-nia, Illinois, to claim 120 acres, sight-unseen. As a result of his blend of fact and fiction, his extensive use of pictures, artifacts, and diaries in creating his book, he instructs teachers in the techniques of using these tools. the conference. Deadline for those to be mailed is October 17, 2013. Attendees registering after

October 17, 2013 may pick up their name badges at the conference registration table in the lobby

of Building H.

A continuing Professional Development Units (CPDU) label of completion will be provided at the

Exhibit Hall and the end of the keynote on Friday morning. Labels are to be placed on the CPDU

Evidence of Completion form included in the conference program. Sign in sheets will be at other

sessions.
