    gained spiritually.

Remember that the colourfuland clean clothes worn by every-one, especially the children, onEidand the glee and smiles ontheir faces; the sharing of foodand sweets and exchanging ofgifts is only the outward mani-festation of happiness.

The actual joy is within thesoul which after the spiritualexperience of Ramadan is pureand light as the clothes sparkling

bright and faces full of joy.In the spirit of the verse I havecited above, having completedthe number of fasting days pre-scribed, we should exalt thegreatness of Allah for havingguided us and we should strivehard to follow His Path.

This message is for you, allyour family, friends and mem-bers of theJamaat.

have developed. Let us pray that

we will strive over the nexteleven months, till Allah grantsus another Ramadan, to movefurther on the journey of near-ness to Allah.

It would be too simplistic aview to believe that the Muslimsare out to celebrate release froma period of restraint they hadsubjected themselves to. No! It isnot so! They are rejoicing thereturn to their fitra, the condi-

tion of pureness in which theywere created, and hence theterm Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eidcarries with it the deepermeaning of happiness of thesoul. It should not be taken as aday in the annual calendar thatends with the midnight hour. Itshould be a process that contin-ues and develops. In fact Eidisthe celebration of what we have

    Sighting the Moon

It is yet not 7.30 p.m., Wednesday7th August as I type this. The sunis shining brightly outside. It hasalready been announced on thewebsite of the Central LondonMosque that Eid-ul-Fitr is tomor-row, 8th.

The question should be raised:If they rely on sighting the newmoon, then how have they man-aged to sight it more than onehour before sunset? The newmoon can only be sighted aftersunset. In the time of the HolyProphet Muhammad (saw), didanyone ever sight the new moonan hour and a half before sunset?Where is the Sunnah now thatthey supposedly follow?

    Dr Zahid Aziz

    India

By the grace of Almighty Allah Iwas able to visit India again ear-lier this month. The visit was verysuccessful and after reviewingthe progress in various parts ofIndia we were able to re-energizepropagation activities in Delhiafter a couple of tragedies.

You will be disappointed tonote that our efforts to raisefunds for the school/mosque pro-ject for Delhi have not been veryencouraging as envisioned ini-

tially. You will kindly note thatour requirement w asUS$105,000.00 by the end of De-cember 2012 for purchase of landand transfer/registration costs.Additional amount of aboutUS$120,000.00 was required forthe construction phase. Contribu-tions are still trickling in and bythe first week of July 2013, wereceived only an equivalent ofUS$80,000.00. Therefore we willnot be able to proceed with the

original plans for the mosque/school for Delhi members. Duringmy latest visit we again gave the

spective members in variousparts of those two States are nowconfident that we will be there toprovide support and more inter-est is being shown in the Anju-mans propagation activities.Consequently, it is possible that a

couple more projects may be un-dertaken in those States in theforeseeable future (without usingany of the funds collected for theDelhi project). Insha Allah, moreinformation on this will be pro-vided in the next few months.

For the information of ourmembers who may not have seenthe earlier intimation, our HeadMuballigh in India, Mufti MumtazAlams, 11 year old son left thisworld to meet with our Maker

after he was hit and run over by atruck on 30 April. Earlier, anothervery staunch member in Delhi, brother Kanhaiya Lal, lost hisonly daughter to dengue fever. We pray that Allah taala grantsthe departed souls abode in thehighest pedestal of Jannat-ulFirdousaameen. You may recallthat in one of my reports I hadmentioned that brother KanhaiyaLal visited our Delhi Centre forten consecutive days during my

visit in June 2012 and afterlengthy discussions and delibera-

tions accepted Islam and joinedthe Jamaat. He is visiting ourCentre regularly for daily prayersand has been making regularmonthly contributions since Junelast year. These two tragedies

within a space of a few monthshad taken their toll on ourpropagation activities in recentmonths. During our meetingsearlier this month members

pledged to re double their effortsand the reports over the last twoweeks indicate that they are ad-hering to their promise. TarawihPrayers are being held at twolocations in Delhi and membersare enthusiastically participatingin our activities.

    Mr Shaukat Ali

NOTE: Since this report was submit-

ted further funds have been donated

by Mr Alis family and other mem-

bers of the US Jamaat in California

such as Mrs Asma Majid and Mr

    Zafar Abdullah.

matter serious consideration andadopted Plan B, which is to pro-ceed with a curtailed plan. We dorealize that some Jamaats havecollected additional funds whichwill be transferred to Delhi pro-gressively but the amounts do

not appear to fulfil our originalbudget. We are confident thatduring the current RamadanShareef, more members will Insha

Allah be making contributions, which we hope will facilitatecompletion of Plan B. We offerour profound thanks to all thosewho have already made or aremaking additional contributionsfor the project and pray that theybe rewarded abundantly by ourCreator in this life as well as in

the Hereafter for their sacrificesfor the benefit of our less privi-leged brothers and sisters.

We are delighted to report thatthe Anjumans school which wasunder construction at Braini vil-lage near Bhagalpur in Bihar hasbeen virtually completed. Inter-nal works on all five classroomswere completed in March and thechildren were moved from theCommunity Hall, where we wereoperating classes for the last five

years (in a very congested space),to the Anjumans dedicatedschool in April 2013. There arecurrently 256 students registeredat the school and the communityis said to be extremely excitedand thrilled with the facility, which is the first for the village. Itis reiterated that the funds col-lected for the Delhi project werenot used at all for the Brainischool project, which was fundedtotally by the undersigned. For

the information of our memberswho are not familiar with thegeography of India, Braini Villageis over 1,200 km from Delhi andduring my first visit to the area ittook 22 hours by train/bus/4WDvehicle to reach the village.

You will also be very pleased tonote that the Jamaat has madesignificant progress in Bihar andneighbouring Jharkhand Stateand the membership is continu-ing to increase. The school pro-ject in Braini has added impetusto our expansion of activities inthose States. Members and pro-
