PRESIDENT’S MESSAGEPRESIDENT’S MESSAGEPRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Alhamdulillah, the conclusion of 2009 marked another chapter for progress in the Association. As the tide of economic challenges rose over the year, the Association continued to extend its hands to the community through its various programme with the motivation to drive ourselves towards betterment.

Education has always been a core precedence in our mission to spread better understanding of Islam. With more efforts dedicated to this cause, the participation in our courses had significantly increased as we catered to the needs of those who seek knowledge at the Association. Designed to help develop the Muslim individual, all the courses – beginner, intermediate and advanced levels – generated more participation and interest this year. To further inspire the people in their pursuit of learning, the new Al-Mawrid Resource Library at the Galaxy was opened towards the end of 2009.

We continued to serve more in the community who were affected by the economic turmoil as applications for financial assistance gradually escalated. In facing the unpredictable economic situation with the poor and needy, the Association strived to help through a substantial increase in the provision of monetary assistance as well as motivational programmes to build their strength and enhance their resilience in times of difficult.

Being the social bridge especially to the new Muslims, the Association devoted efforts to produce social programmes that would strengthen the network of Muslims and assist the integration of the new Muslims with their new Islamic identity.

With the continued trust from Zakat contributors this year, the Association strived to solidify our programmes to provide the necessities for the asnafs mentioned in the Holy Quran. Alhamdulillah, the unwavering support from the donors, members and volunteers, had fortifiedthe Association’s efforts to continue caring for the welfare of the people.

Insha’Allah, the blessings of Allah (SWT) will continue to guide us in fulfilling our duties as Muslims who embrace the revered qualities valued in Islam. Let us move forward in unity and together move the community towards excellence and harmony.

Wassalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)Tender of the IT Hardware & Software Upgrading ProjectIn April, the IT sub committee had opened the tender for the replacement of the Association’s IT hardware. Presentations of the solutions were made by several vendors to the IT subcommittee in November. The contract is expected to be awarded to the selected vendor in March 2010.

Procurement of New VOIP Telephone SystemThe new VOIP telephone system was launched on 6 July to replace the ageing analogue key telephone system. Administrator, Contact Agents and End User trainings on the numerous functions of the new phone was conducted on 2 July.

Procurement of Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)A decision to procure a UPS to support the data switch for the VOIP phone server system was made in July. The VOIP system needed the data switch to connect to all the IP phones via Ethernet cables, thus it is imperative to obtain a UPS, which supports the whole phone network during any impending failure. The UPS was delivered on 9 September and was launched on 11 September. This provided back-up battery power to the data switch long enough for normal power to be restored should there be any power surges, blackouts etc in the Association.

Procurement of New ProjectorsIn November, Darul Arqam purchased five new Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) projectors to replace the existing ones. The new projectors were expected to provide good picture quality for at least three years, which is the usual lifespan of such equipment.
