MUSICIANS HOUSE(S)

herengracht

Musician house(s) is the concept for new canal house in the old historical part of Amsterdam – Herngracht canal.

The project is designed as a temporary kind of living for young musicians. Most of them are new in the city and

pretty often in the country. They need a quite place where they can feel like at home and focus on the practising

the music. Therefore main inspiration for this project was a suburban area with cozy, homely atmosphere.

I tried to mimics this feeling in musician house(s).

The buidling has two main levels. First one on the grand floor is the space where musicians can practise the mu-

sic. Second one - housing level is located on the first and the second floor and constains 9 small houses and

green roof terraces. The layout of the building is created to provide nice view of the canal or the typical canal

house’s garden for everyone.

Main entrence from canal’s side is connected with collective space which contains piano room, which can be open

for spacial ocassion like King’s Day and rest room with beutiful wiev for Herengracht.

In order to emphasize this unique arrangement I used two different type of materials in facad : structural

concrete for music applies and warm, dark woodfor dwelling layer.
