Welcome to Season 36 of the San Juan Symphony! After an online season like none in our history, we are thrilled to re-emerge and present The Sound of Resilience, featuring the return of live music to the concert hall with in-person audiences. Of the many lessons learned during the pandemic, one is the incredible power of live performance, and certainly live music will seem more beautiful now than ever before. We are grateful to have endured last season with such incredible support from the community, but still, it is hard to describe the ebullient feelings that this season brings. We did it! We proved our resilience, navigated incredible obstacles, and now it is time once again to deliver the world’s great music to our wonderful patrons and audiences.
On behalf of our entire organization, we would like to express heartfelt thanks to our musicians, whose lives were upended and musical dreams deferred. Join me now in celebrating their return as we get down to business, with an array of composers that include both the unfamiliar and the dearly beloved. From Albert Roussel and Florence Price to Schubert, Beethoven, and Borodin, the variety of music on our programs and the energy in the orchestra will provide a fantastic experience for audiences from all walks of life. Each program is designed to engage and inspire, and to serve as a first-hand reminder that The Sound of Resilience is our passion and our mission. Please consider season tickets for your entire household, and help us spread the word about the San Juan Symphony!
Many thanks for your continued support,
Dr. Thomas HeuserMusic Director,San Juan Symphony
Greetings from our Music Director
“The painting is indeed of Fireweed also called Great Willow. I do quite a few abstract wildflower pieces, and I actually did this painting after being up on Missionary Ridge after the fire. Experiencing the beauty and tenacity of this plant, and in such great numbers to boot, especially after the devastation that occurred was the inspiration. All the writing and scribbles throughout the piece describe the uses, nutrients, and edible parts as well.
So, I am very pleased and find it quite serendipitous that you chose this particular piece pretty much for the exact reason I painted it. Wow!”

The Carnival of the Animals is a lighthearted musical composition of fourteen movements by the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. Each animal is introduced with a poem written by Ogden Nash. Listen to the “hee-haw of violins and “roar’ of pianos. The pairing of the animals’ theme music with poetry makes this an outstanding performance for children of all ages.
