IT is no coincidence that the stylish 1920s-inspired blackand-white video for Suit & Tie from singer Justin Timberlakes latest
album The 20/20 Experience, looks like a Hollywood film. It was directed by none other than David Fincher, the auteur behind cult
movies like
Se7en, Fight Club, The Social Network, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
What may surprise you further is that this is not Finchers first brush with the world of music videos. In fact, he belongs to a
niche set of Hollywood filmmakers who honed their craft in music videos before making their big screen entry. Fincher has brought
his unique vision to videos for Madonna (Vogue, Bad Girl), Michael Jackson (Who Is It), Aerosmith (Janies Got a Gun), Billy Idol
(Cradle of Love), and Nine Inch Nails (Only). Other music video directors whove successfully transitioned to cinema are Michel
Gondry, Michael Bay, Gore Verbinski, Spike Jonze, and Tarsem Singh.
Time and again, a variety of A-list filmmakers have taken time off movies to create spectacular videos for various musicians.
