Relationship between Lyrics & Visuals

The lyrics and the visuals of this music video has a very strong relationship. The visuals are very much based up on the lyrics of the video.

Here the lyrics says “Come home with 50,000” the video links because the woman mouths the lyrics.

Another example of a relationship between the visuals and the lyrics: The lyrics are “ Woke up and I bumped my head” correspondently, Lunch Money Lewis bumped his head with a tool which wakes him up.

Relationship between Music & Visuals

Similarly to lyrics and Visuals, there is also a relationship between the music and the visuals. However it is not as strong. There are some changes in the pace of the video when the drop of the music happens though it is not too clear.

Here the Drop of the song starts, the tempo of the song increases therefore the pace of the visuals increases too. This is done through using more cuts and tracking to create an impression of an increase in tempo.

Once the song has come back the verse, the tempo of the video decreases with the song. This means that there are less cuts and longer shots.

Are there close-ups of the artist andstar image motifs?

The music companies are taking a different approach on how they are going to sell the track. Unlike some popular pop singers, Lunch Money Lewis is not the most attractive human being alive, he certainly would not be expecting a herd of fan girls. Therefore the video tries to be humorous and fun to make up for this. This is what they use to sell the track through the video.

Instead of using the genre of Image, the record company decides that the use of Performance is more effective.

Are there intertextual references? This type of music video has been done before by other record labels with different artists. A similar music video to Bills is T.G.I.F by Katy Perry. The music video is very humorous, just like bills.

However, there is a difference in how the two artists are represented. Katy is presented more sexually through revealing and tight costumes, in contrast with Bills where Lunch Money is not represented in such a way.

Is the music video performance-based,narrative-based or concept-based?

Lunch Money’s Bill music video is Narrative and Performance Based. We know this because of the semiotics used within the music video which fit into these categories.

This still shows the artist singing along to the song. A close up is used to show clearly that he is signing. This means that the music video is Performance based. The use of props further show this. This still shows why the

narrative concept in the music video. Here we can see that there is a poster saying “Eviction Notice” this raises the question “why is it there”. This means that there is a reason why the family is not being able to play the bills.

Conclusion In Conclusion, Lunch Money’s Bills music video is based on Performance and Narrative. We know this through the many semiotics used throughout the video.

We can also identify that there is no notion of looking as no actors are sexualised to look attractive to the audience.
