Welcome To Third Street Founded in 1976, Third Street Preschool today serves more

than 100 children of diverse backgrounds. Students learn about

their world through play, participation in the arts, engagement

with nature, and active, hands-on learning. Our progressive,

music-rich program offers preschool and early childhood

classes for children ages 12 months through five years.

PROGRESSIVE APPROACH Preschoolers are busy learners. They play, cook, sing, listen, paint, pretend, draw, run, jump, build, and invent. Their work is collaborative, experiential, and filled with adventure. Within an atmosphere of trust, warmth, and good humor, Third Street Preschool provides the spark for rich intellectual and creative development. MUSIC-MAKING Music provides a foundation for a life-long interest in the arts, allowing children to imagine and interpret as they listen, organize, and remember. Our curriculum includes music and movement classes, instrument explorations, and family sing-alongs. GARDENING What does it take to make a garden? Preschoolers learn to plant and care for flower and vegetable seedlings in our St. Marks Children’s Garden. Classes visit the garden often to rake, dig, and explore as they deepen their connection to nature. COMMUNITY Third Street is a richly diverse community with a strong commitment to equity and respect. Through committee participation, parent coffee hours, gardening, and social activities, parents and caregivers contribute to the life of Third Street. “Community” has meaning for children, teachers, and parents alike.

TODDLER TOTS 12 – 18 months | 45 minutes, once a week A joy-filled small group time designed just for Tots. Parents share in children’s active play, music, and story times, as well as sensory experiences that enhance early development.   

THIRD STREET TODDLERS 18 – 28 months | 1 hour 45 minutes, twice a week Each toddler class offers the fun and stimulation of a beginning preschool experience without the challenge of separation. Activities include movement, active play, building, pretending, painting, songs, and stories.   

HALF-DAY PRESCHOOL 2.5 – 4 years | TTh / MWF / M-F Through active experiences, children grow as independent learners and caring, confident friends. Literacy, math, science, problem solving, and outdoor play in each school day.  

FULL-DAY PRESCHOOL 3 – 5 years  | M-F Activities such as block building, neighborhood trips, gardening, and cooking ignite children’s interests along with meeting discussions, emerging literacy, measurement, and integrated math challenges. Preschoolers enjoy in-school instrument lessons through the Preschool Instrument Program and parents enjoy expert support as they look

ahead to Kindergarten.

Music, Movement & Dance Classes MOVEMENT WITH MIK 16 months – 4 years These unique, creative classes spark young imaginations through music, movement, and storytelling. Live piano accompaniment.  

PRE-BALLET 2.5 – 5 years Budding ballet enthusiasts deepen their love of dance as they respond to creative direction and live piano accompaniment.   TODDLER MUSIC MAKERS 1 – 3 years Parents and toddlers enjoy this natural, joyful way to share a love of music. Everyone joins in - moving, tapping, and responding to rhythms.  

PRESCHOOL MUSIC MAKERS 2 – 4 years Experimenting with voice, movement, and percussive instruments, children continue their exciting musical journey by mimicking patterns and creating their own rhythms.

MUSICAL CONNECTIONS 4 – 5 yearsYoung musicians meet music school instructors and experiment with a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, violin, and drum.   

PIANO PARTY 2.5 – 3 years  Children enjoy singing, playing musical games, drumming, and trying songs on the piano. Designed as a prelude course to individual Suzuki lessons, this is a fun beginning piano class for all of our youngest musicians.

PRESCHOOL INSTRUMENT PROGRAM*3.5 – 4 years Older preschoolers have the option to study an instrument during the school day. Individual lessons are held weekly for 30 minutes by Third Street Music School Faculty for a reduced fee. For currently enrolled preschoolers only.
