Music In the Bible

God Himself lays such importance on the ministry of music that He placed more than 500 references to it in Scriptures.

First mention of music is in Gen. 4:21.

Last mention of music is in Rev. 18:22.

MUSIC – GOD’S GIFT

• Music is one of God's great gifts to man and is one of the most important elements in a spiritual program.

It is an avenue of

communication with

God, and "is one of the

most effective means of impressing the

heart with spiritual truth"

(Education, p. 168).

Page 6: Music Ministry Presentation

“Next to the preaching of God’s eternal Word, there is no more

powerful ministry in the church than that of music to touch lives and

prepare hearts”.

Music is

the right

hand of the

Ministry.

Selecting Music Coordinators

The church should

take great care in

selecting music leaders,

choosing only those

who are thoroughly

consecrated and provide appropriate

music for all church worship services

and meetings. (SDA Church Manual p. 92)

Selecting Musicians

The church must exercise care in selecting choir members and other musicians who will rightly represent Church principles. They should be members of the church, the Sabbath school, or the Adventist Youth Society. Because they occupy a conspicuous place in church services, they should be examples of modesty and decorum in their appearance and dress.

Music In Church Sacred music is an important part of public worship… Secular music or that of a questionable nature should never be introduced into our services.

Music a Power for Good Music can be made a great power for good…

Music should have beauty, pathos, and power.

Let the voices be lifted in songs of praise and

devotion. Call to your aid, if practicable,

instrumental music, and let the glorious harmony

ascend to God, an acceptable offering. Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, p. 71.

MUSIC IN WORSHIP SERVICE

• Worship should be the primary and eternal activity of mankind. Man's highest end is to glorify God. As the worshiper comes to the house of God to offer a sacrifice of praise, let it be with the best possible music.

Page 16: Music Ministry Presentation

MUSIC IN WORSHIP SERVICE

• Careful planning of every musical element of the service is essential so that the congregation is led to be a participant and not a spectator.

Page 17: Music Ministry Presentation

Music in Worship Service • The instrumentalist responsible for accompanying

congregational singing has an especially great responsibility to set the right standard in all his contributions, be they preludes or postludes, offertories or other voluntaries, or

accompaniment of hymns. He/she is in a unique position to raise the level of worship music in his church.

Music Acceptable to God Music is acceptable to God only when the heart

is sanctified and made soft and holy by its

facilities. {Evangelism 512.1}

…when the heart is cleansed

and sanctified, and the members

of the church are partakers of the divine nature,

a power will go forth from the church, who

believe the truth, that will cause melody in the

heart. {Evangelism 512.3}

Musical Talent

However small your talent, God has a place

for it. That one talent, wisely used, will

accomplish its appointed work. By

faithfulness in little duties, we are to work on

the plan of addition, and God will work for us

on the plan of multiplication. These littles will

become the most precious influences in His

work.--"Christ's Object Lessons," p. 360.

Church Decorations and Florals Ministry

• Church florists work to beautify the church with floral arrangements and decorations in order to enhance worship.

• Selecting and arranging plant material for the sanctuary has two aims: order and beauty. The arranger must keep these two goals uppermost and observe known principles for their attainment.
