Music from Latin America
Music from Latin America This interactive presentation seeks to engage the students with a musical and cultural tour throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, specifically Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela. With my classical guitar performance in the class, I will use the instrument and its repertoire as a connection tool for students to experientially travel through these cultures as well as to demonstrate how a musical instrument can embody, demonstrate and represent a diversity of music styles. In this half-an-hour presentation the students will listen short pieces of music which includes: a Venezuelan waltz, a Cuban son, a Chilean cueca, a Brazilian Choro, and a Mexican song. A Power Point presentation will accompany the activity to increase comprehension, engagement and visual/aural connections with the topic.
