OCTOBER 2018GREETINGS

*Why is it important to go to church?

*How would your life be different if you couldn’t go to church?

Sometimes it’s a struggle to get ourselves up and going for church. But God wants us to go into his house with joy. This doesn’t mean that we will always be excited when the alarm clock goes off. But it does mean that we need to work to prepare our hearts and minds for what God has in store for us.

God wants us to gather together with other believers. He wants us to study the Bible, to hear the Word, to sing praises together and to bless others. All of this should happen in church. If you find yourself dragging, ask God to replace your lack of enthusiasm with his joy.

Many believers in this world are being persecuted for gathering together. Some people are even being killed. That’s how important it is to gather. For those of us who have easy access to a church, it can be easy to take it for granted. But we shouldn’t.

If you find yourself bored with church, ask God what you could do to make it more exciting. If you find church a difficult place to be due to problems with fellow believers, pray that God will heal those relationships and restore your joy.

Dear God, thank you that we can gather together in your name. Please help us to have nothing but joy in our hearts as we step into your house. Amen.

Wish St. Paul’s Happy 146th Anniversary!

In honor of our 146th Anniversary, you are invited to purchase a special candle to benefit St. Paul’s and honor all volunteers, past and present who have brought the love of God to thousands!

We will be celebrating our anniversary on Sunday, October 14. The candles will be placed on our anniversary cake for fellowship hour after worship.

What a great way to honor or memorialize a special person in your life. There are two giving opportunity levels. Donations for a $100 candle on the top tier, while donations of $25 place a candle on the remaining tiers.

Please reserve:______$100 or ____$25 candle(s). Total donation amount _______ Donor Name:____________________________ Address:__________________________

PRAYER of the MONTHBe joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer...Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. - Romans 12:12,15, NIV

Lord our God, we thank you for your gospel, the great, good tidings we may carry in our hearts to give us joy in this present time, even though on all sides people are in anguish and agony. We thank you that your gospel fills our hearts with compassion, enabling us to help carry what many have to suffer. Show us our need of you so that we can receive your help. If we must be the first to suffer all kinds of pain and distress, may we do so joyfully because we have been promised blessing in the midst of all the pain. May we continually honor your name, praising you for the good news of your kingdom, for the promise that everything must work together for good through Jesus Christ the Savior. Amen.

GIVINGHave you ever heard anyone say: “My church is always asking for money. I wish I could belong to a church that never needed any money.”Surely they don’t mean that. Any church that is alive needs money. Only dead churches do not call on their members for support. If anyone should accuse your church of always needing and calling for money, regard it as a compliment. Invite this person to rejoice with you that you both belong to something that is living and productive for Jesus Christ rather than a dead, stagnant organization from which glory of Christ has departed.A church that is alive needs the generous, sacrificial support of those who love it. Only a dead church demands no sacrifice.
