Please be vigilant with the time as we often have students not picked up for some time after school on the last day of term. Sports Day is next week on Thursday 11th April. This year we will trial Tri-Skills as part of our Sports Day. Tri-Skills will provide 3-4 activities during the morning session with the school continuing with the sprints and group events in the afternoon. Mini- Sports Day is on Wednesday 10th April with students having been selected from PE lessons with Ms Heading and Mr Decelis to participate in long jump, high jump and distance run. These students have been selected from class lessons throughout the term and this day is for those students only. Students accumulate points for themselves and their team on this day and on Sports Day. Although not all students will participate on Wednesday, they will all have the opportunity to watch and support their peers during the day. Sports Day will involve the division 1 runs with students in this division accumulating points for year level championships. Students can dress in their team colours and parents, families and friends are welcome to come along and support them. All schools abide by the Junior Sports Policy in regards to Code of Conduct for everyone and we expect all of our students and visitors to follow our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Success. We have had a number of positive reports in regards to the student’s behaviour at swimming. This has been very pleasing to hear as the school has followed the risk assessments in place and they have obviously been successful. The school is not supervised until 8:45am and no-one should be onsite until that time. Students, particularly those with no adult supervision, should be waiting near the Front Office until the bell goes for them to indicate the school is open. Term 1 disco was on Wednesday 3rd April and was very well received by all. Thank you to the staff who stayed back and helped out so that our students have the opportunity to dance and boogie the night away. Thank you to Shane at DJ Fastfix for his great tunes throughout the night. Thank you to Sandra for her organisation and the fundraising parents who helped make the disco a success.

Materials and Services fees are now overdue. If you believe you are eligible for School Card, please fill out the School Card form which is now online. If you require a payment plan to pay these fees, please speak to our Business Manager, Clare Macdonald in the Front Office.

NAPLAN Online will occur during Weeks 3-4 of Term 2 for students in Years 3, 5 and 7. All students are encouraged to participate in the NAPLAN tests. Students with a verified disability may qualify for adjustments that reflect the support normally provided in the classroom. Students who have a temporary injury may be reasonably accommodated. NAPLAN is not a pass-fail test. Individual performance is shown on a national achievement scale for each test. NAPLAN assesses student skills in literacy and numeracy that are developed over time through the school curriculum. NAPLAN tests are not tests that students can cram for. Language conventions tests includes spelling, grammar and punctuation. Numeracy tests includes number, space, algebra measurement, chance and data. For more information including sample questions and writing tasks, please visit the NAP website www.nap.edu.au. The school, supports the parents’ right to make the choice to withdraw their child/ren and we have the necessary forms available in the Front Office. These need to be completed prior to the testing and not on the day of the tests.

Breakfast Club is often used by a number of our students in the mornings. It is great to see so many happy vegemite and jam smiles as the students head off to classes. The Breakfast Club is open to all students at Munno Para PS. It is important for all students to have a great start to the day with some healthy breakfast in their tummies. It is unfortunate that a number of students do come to school without breakfast. For some students they are filling up again after having breakfast at home. We do not mind as long as the food is not being wasted. The Breakfast Program is funded by Kickstart For Kids and operates from 8:15-8:45am Monday to Friday.

The OSHC is available before and after school. Parents/caregivers need to complete the necessary paperwork. The operating hours for OSHC is 7-8:45am and 3-6pm. OSHC also provide Vacation Care programs over the school holidays as well as care on Pupil Free Days. All students need to be booked in for all sessions. OSHC is run by Happy Haven and can be contacted on 0403 369 532.

Volunteers play an important role in the support they provide to schools. Volunteers have a range of skills that can be beneficial to schools. If you are interested in volunteering please see Ryan Hunter in the Front Office. All volunteers are required to have relevant clearances and attend compulsory RAN training.

As we work in an industry that deals with people, there will be times when we all don’t agree with each other. It is how we accommodate these differences that are important to ensure a safe learning environment and work place. If there is an issue/concern/question, make a time with your child’s class teacher. If you do not feel that the issue has been resolved, then make a time to meet with leadership. We will always follow up if we are aware of concerns. You are of course, quite welcome to celebrate and acknowledge the good things that we do too, as there are many that go unnoticed.

This Saturday, 6th April will be the Munno Para Community Market. This is the rescheduled market that we postponed due to the extreme heat earlier in the year. There are a number of great stalls with a variety of crafts and goods available to purchase. I am often surprised at how clever some people are. Market Day runs from 9am-12pm.

This week and in Term 2, I will be visiting other schools as a School Review Principal. This is wonderful opportunity to be on the other side of the fence with a school review. I have the opportunity to talk with school communities and discuss their school improvement cycle. MPPS was reviewed in 2016 with a 12 month turnaround in 2017. It is very heartening to see the amazing work that MPPS staff have put into the school for all students. We will again be reviewed at the end of this year as all schools are back in the 3 year cycle. MPPS has 3 goals that we will be working on in 2019 and onwards. They are: Reading for all students will focus on the literacy strand (interpreting, analysing and evaluating), Writing will focus on vocabulary and Maths will focus on number. These will be the areas across the school that all teachers will focus on in their planning.

School will resume in Term 2 on Tuesday 30th April. Staff will be involved in whole school training on the Monday. OSHC is available if required for families.

We wish everyone a happy and safe Easter over the holidays and hope you all get to relax, revise and refresh.

Coles Excursion – D1 and D3

On the 20th of March, D1 and D3 went on a tour of Coles to experience how it ran and what they did. During this excursion we got to see the Manager’s Office, how ticketing is done, how donuts are made, where they cut the fruit and veg and even go to use a checkout! We were given a Coles bag (show bag) which we used to collect some snacks and things along the way.
