"On the Beat" with OIC Darryl Brandis - Mundijong
Police Station - August 2015 Fellow Residents,
Welcome ewatch subscribers to the monthly
report from the team at Mundijong Police.
As you would have seen on TV and read in the
papers, Operation SWEEP has commenced in
the Metropolitan area to address crime
HOTSPOTS and prolific offenders.
As part of Operation SWEEP our team
launched Operation HYPOLITHO - targeting
areas where stealing, burglary and stealing
from motor vehicles are being committed. Late
last week Armadale Detectives undertook three
search warrants in our areas of concern and
made a number of arrests seizing a sizeable
amount of drugs, firearms, ammunition,
weapons and cash from Byford. Those
offenders are currently enjoying a prison cell.
A review of the overnight crime this morning revealed a disappointing number of offences to
houses under construction where stealing of items is rife. Your property may be insured, but at
the end of the day, we all pay in the long run. Just a reminder - volume crime is the responsibility
of the community as well as Police and we need your help to catch these offenders.
Unfortunately easy theft from motor vehicles is ongoing. If you leave property in your car, there’s
a chance it won’t be there when you return. Yes it's wrong, but it’s a sign of our times. Please
spread the word to family, friends and colleagues to remove property from their vehicles to reduce
the temptation to thieves smashing your vehicle windows to steal your property.

The Criminal Code Amendment (Infringement Notices) Act 2011 gives officers the option of
issuing a Criminal Code Infringement Notice (CCIN) to people 17 years or older for prescribed
minor criminal offences, namely ‘Disorderly Behaviour’ and ‘Stealing’ under the value of $500.00.
The new legislation will save police time that can be diverted to providing greater crime
deterrence. If there are more Police on the road and in the community, the chances of being
caught offending are far greater. Instead of hours preparing briefs and attending court, it takes
just minutes to complete the CCIN and will clear up an estimated 7500 court cases in the first year
alone.
The Commissioner launched the CCINs initiative with the Police Minister and the Attorney-
General in March 2015.
Please report any crime happening in real time to 131444 or emergencies on 000, pass on any
information afterwards to us on 9526 1900 or email

Emergency App for Mobile Phones In some different news, the Windows phone
version of the Emergency+ smartphone
app has been launched, making it available to
more than 98% of the smartphone market.
Western Australia Police is proud to support
Emergency+, Australia’s national emergency
app which has been endorsed by state and
territory governments. The app, which is free of
charge, allows callers to pinpoint their location
via their smartphone’s GPS functionality and
verbally provide emergency operators with
these details.
Western Australia Police encourages everyone to install Emergency+ on their phone to ensure
help can be sent as soon as possible in an emergency situation. If a Triple Zero operator doesn’t
know where a caller is, they can’t send help.
Since its launch Emergency+ has been downloaded more than 270,000 times, and emergency
services nationwide continually report receiving Triple Zero calls from people using Emergency+.
The app can be downloaded free of charge from the Windows store, Google Play store and Apple
App Store, and is available in English, Chinese (traditional and simplified) and Japanese.
Stay safe and remember, if it doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t, so report it to Police on 131 444
or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
