There are 4 boxes.Each box has 3 balls.How many balls are there altogether?
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12
Take a look at this example.
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12
4 threes = 12
4 x 3 = 12
A few ways to represent the answer.
There are 12 balls altogether.
4 groups of 3 = 12
(We use “x” to represent ‘groups of’)
Let’s try another question.
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 18
6 threes = 18
6 groups of 3 = 18
84 groups of 2
4 X 2
4 + 4 + 4 + 4
