1 November 2017 Multiple District 105 Multiple District Lioness Chairman 2017 to 2019 - Jeannette Morgan Issue 14 November 2017 It’s hard to believe that it’s November already and we are all busy planning activities for the festive season and beyond. September and October have been pretty much taken up with my own Club’s Annual Lantern Festival so although I have spoken to various Cubs I haven’t managed to get out on visits as we have been running workshops on evenings and weekends through until the festival on 14th October where we had over 2000 people take part in the parade. . . . but this is about to change as I will be visiting Chelmsford Lioness Club on 10th November when they are joining together with their sponsoring Lions Club for a joint Charter and Certification anniversary and then on the Saturday I will be heading over to Dursley Lioness Club for their Tramps Supper – so look out for photos in the next newsletter! We held our Advisory Body meeting in September and we discovered that the Lions Directory of Officers has now been printed so we decided to purchase a copy of this for each Lioness Club so hopefully your President or Secretary has now received this and is keeping it in a safe place. Although we are aware there are a couple of meetings being held (Bristol and Peterborough) with the Charities Commission there is still no further news for the Lionesses about our status so at this stage we will all continue as we are and I will keep you informed of any updates as they occur. We have also been made aware that they will no longer be publishing obituaries in the Lion Magazine however we would still like to recognise those who have passed to higher service by printing them in the Lioness Newsletter so please do send details to our Newsletter Edit Lion John Fox. I have also attended a meeting of the Lioness Conference Host Committee and am pleased to say the Conference Co-ordinator Nicola and her team have got everything in hand. Hopefully by now you have received the booking forms and also the raffle tickets so please do support the committee by selling as many of these as possible. Jenni Cowlishaw, Senior fundraiser at Tiny Tickers (my chosen charity of the year) has confirmed that she will attend Conference to tell us a little bit more about the work that they do and how our donations can help so many people . . . and the good news is that our Conference coincides with the end of Heart week which is their annual fundraising and awareness campaign so look out for more information about this. According to reports we have approximately £500 in donations and pledges but I hope that we can increase this by the time of Conference so we can make a significant donation on behalf of all Clubs in the Multiple District. Fellow Lionesses, if you haven’t already done so, please consider holding an event or giving a donation to this worthwhile cause and ! ioness Newsletter Chairman’s Charity I will keep you updated with progress on donations throughout the year but please do let me know of if your Club decides to support Tiny Tickers as I am keen to keep a record of the activities each individual Club does and the total funds raised.

Multiple District Lioness Clubs Coordinator’s MessageHello everyone, it hardly seems possible that we are already into November and will soon be celebrating

Christmas. Over the past few weeks life has remained busy but enjoyable as I have gone outand about attending meetings and events. I was very pleased to be able to attend theCharter Anniversaries of The Lioness Lions Club of East Anglia and Thetford BrecklandLioness Club both occasions were very enjoyable, full of fun and fellowship. In September Ienjoyed a super Sunday Lunch hosted by Lioness Sandie and the members of Witham andDistrict Lioness Club, a successful fundraiser and great social event. The Lantern Festival inPontefract was once again a great success, bringing the community together and out inforce, it was my pleasure to be in attendance, a truly memorable occasion.

It was decided that there would be two training sessions planned regarding the C.I.O., one in the Southand one in the North. The one in the North the date is till to be advised, but the one in the South tookplace in Peterborough on the 22nd October hosted by the Lions of EA. I attended the training day whichwas well organised and informative. Currently the Charity Commission are working very closely with theLions Clubs to process their applications, originally the time taken to process the applications was verylengthy but now the process has been considerably improved and is being completed in a much shortertime, three weeks or in some cases less. The situation for Lionesses currently has not changed and they should continue working to the approvedGuidelines.Thank you to clubs for sending me your reports, they make very interesting and enjoyable reading and arevery helpful when writing reports to promote Lionesses and all the good work you do. Please keep themcoming.I am looking forward to attending future events over the coming months.

For their October meeting had a visit fromHeather Bentley, a member of the management team forWalton Parish nurses, based in Felixstowe. Heather gavea very interesting presentation outlining the workundertaken by the Parish Nurses. This can be very varied, from washing feet to carer relief. Trained staff give up theirtime voluntarily to help people in need in the Walton

Community running drop in centres, exercise classes, helping people make sense of theirmedical information (very important) as well as prayer support. Felixstowe Lionessespresented a cheque for £200 towards funding the work.

Hosted by , Pontefract’s Annual Lantern Festivalwas another resounding success with over 2000 people taking part in the parade on Saturday 14th October.

The crowds started gathering at Pontefract Castle from 6pm and theparade set off at 7pm prompt. The parade was led by the Minden Bugleand Drums Band and guests of honour included Councillor David Jonesand the Lions District Governor for 105C, Lion Michael Boldero. The Lionesses have been running workshops since the beginning ofSeptember so that people could come along and make their ownlanterns and at the same time they made over 400 lanterns of theirown most of which were given away on the night in return for a smalldonation.

Lioness Jeannette Morgan said, “There is no doubt that the lovely weather encouragedpeople to come along and join in the parade and this certainly makes it seem all worthwhile. This is thesixth year we have organised the Festival and it now seems to be one of the highlights of the year forPontefract but we could not do it without the support of others including Wakefield Council (and particularlythe Staff and Management at Pontefract Castle), WDH, Pontefract ATC, Friends of Friarwood ValleyGardens, Yorkshire Rose First Aid and PRS for Music. Plus this year we have also gained a number ofcorporate sponsors including Knights Fish and Chip Shop, Invisihear, Smile Dental Care, Tesco Pontefractand Co-op Castleford. It is the generosity of these and the general public who support our bucket collectionon the day that enable us to put the event on and our sincere thanks go to each and everyone of thesepeople for their kind donations.
