Where words become worth it.

Is it remedial??

Is it for students that are unprepared??

Is it punishment??

Page 3: Multimedia Letter

Those are all incorrect stereotypes that have been placed on tutoring, which inhibits students from taking advantage of the resource.

Tutoring is NOT remedial, and it’s not a punishment.

You don’t HAVE to go to the writing center; it’s just a resource available to you if you choose.

The writing center is a comfortable environment that gives students the opportunity to sit down with another peer and work collaboratively.

Sessions are friendly, open, and informal.

You can work with a tutor to improve your writing altogether, not just one particular paper.

Every writer gets frustrated and struggles during the writing process.

Everybody gets writers block.

Sometimes it’s just nice to bounce ideas off of somebody else.

Writing can be a scary and difficult process, from brainstorming, planning, and outlining, to organizing, editing, and revising.

You can come in to the writing center for any step along the way.

Come with some rough ideas or come with a paper…it’s

your choice!

Writing Center tutors won’t tell you how to write your paper, instead, they will help you write your paper the way YOU want it (in your own style and preference). In the end, you get the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself.

Writing is important, but so is citation—which can sometimes be even more frightening than writing itself.

Writing Center tutors can help you with proper citation by using available resources within the center, such as Pocket Keys for Writers.

Tutors don’t memorize all of the rules, they look things up too!

You can choose what you’d like to bring to the writing center. Here’s a list of some examples:◦ Papers◦ Autobiographical sketches◦ Cover letters/Resumes◦ Projects◦ Dissertations◦ Etc.

Writing center tutors aren’t experts and they certainly don’t know everything about writing—they’re students just like you who appreciate writing and enjoy helping others.

They won’t tell you what to do or try to take over your paper. They will help YOU write YOUR paper.
