Healthy Lunches althy Food I am posting a reminder to parents about the importance of giving your children healthy food to eat at school. Fresh food is of course the healthiest option. Processed foods are often packaged in bright colours to attract your attention but are best avoided.

PSSA Welcome to another year of PSSA! Season 1 sports are tee-ball and softball. Our coaches are Ms Shahrouk and Mrs Kinali. These teams have played two games and have shown immense improvement in their skills. Please remember that players, parents and coaches need to abide by the code of conduct when playing/participating in PSSA sport. If you are unsure of the conduct, feel free to ask our coaches to show you at any time.

Congratulations to our girls and boys softball teams who both won their matches. Well done to our girls and boys tee-ball teams who also won. As the weather is still hot, players need to be wearing their hat and bring plenty of water. Full school sports uniform must be worn as players are representing our school. We look forward to seeing how these teams progress throughout the season. Ms Shahrouk Sports Coordinator

Student Leader Conference The Year 6 Leaders had a great time during our spectacular experience at the GRIP School Leadership conference on Wednesday 7th of March 2018. The school leaders went to Homebush Olympic Park and represented our school. At the conference we learnt that a ‘watermelon leader’ is different on the inside as to how they appear on the outside. A ‘strawberry leader’ is someone that on the outside is the same as who they are on the inside. We all learnt that to be a leader does not mean to have a badge or a position, in fact, anyone can be a leader. To be a leader is to help others whenever you can have a ‘berry good’ attitude. “I know that I should lead like a ‘berry good’ leader” by Ahmad “I also loved learning how to transform our school and ourselves into great leaders.” By Gisele “I learnt about how to be a transformer and transform into a leader who leads with their attitude, mind, actions and by caring. A leader has to have integrity and honesty within.” By Rehan “I learnt that you have to be sure with what you’re doing, encourage others, refuse and respond to bad behaviour and you have to overcome change and fears.” By Yasameen. Kind regards, Yasameen, Ahmad, Gisele and Rehan Year 6 School Leaders

Positive Behaviour for Learning

We have been using PBL for nearly a year now and our students have made great progress as they use positive behaviour each day at school. We have looked at data from last year and found that students are now making right choices in and out of the playground. At Granville South public school we are learning to be safe, respectful and a learner in the playground. What does it look like to be a safe, respectful and a learner in the playground? Students can be safe by:

• Being in the right place at the right time. • Playing games that are safe • Keeping hands and feet to self • Wearing a hat and staying safe from the sun

Students can be respectful by: • Playing nicely with others • Inviting others to play • Speaking to peers and teachers in a respectful

manner • Agreeing to and respecting the rules of the

games they are playing

Students can be a learner by: • Learning about the playground rules • Encouraging others to follow the playground

rules • Learning how to play new games with

friends

Writers of the Week This week students in 6/5H were writing descriptions of a character in the book ‘Boy overboard’. Rashida ia a tall, teenage girl, well tall enough to look like one. Her skin is as pale as the snow. To Bibi and Jamal she looks unfamiliar due to her bare skin. Jamal and Bibi can't see her true face with all that makeup on. Her hair is fit to be a bird nest. Rashida is a strong but delicate girl. She seems fierce but she is truly, a fragile child. Though it might seem she is as tough as a rock, she is sweeter than chocolate. Rashida is a sassy but caring teen. Believe me she is one of a kind. -Yasameen Alizada

Rashida is a teenage girl from Afghanistan. She has green lipstick, wears make up and she wears a sparkly top and shorts. Rashida is tough but at the same time she is a soft hearted girl. Her hair is as fluffy as a bird and her arms and legs are bare. Her face looks like a mixed bag of lollies.

National Day of action against Bullying and Violence

On Friday 17th March students we acknowledged and celebrated National day of action against Bullying and Violence. All students participated in lessons discussing:

• What bullying is? • What can you do if you are being bullied? • What can you do if you know someone who is

being bullied?

Our student leaders and SRC also participated in workshop activities run by Woodville Alliance.

Kick Start to Good Health Day

On Tuesday 27th March the SRC at Granville South Public School will host the first Kick Start to Good Health Day. This is a day to encourage and celebrate healthy eating. It is important to pack a healthy lunch for your child everyday as it helps with your child’s ability to concentrate throughout the day. On Tuesday 27th March we encourage you to pack a healthy lunch that is also waste free. The posters below have some great suggestions. The class with the healthiest lunch will win a prize! We hope you can support this initiative and pack a healthy lunchbox for your child.
