The Multicultural Center Welcomes Evelyn

Evelyn Bako Ferguson joined the Multicultural Center team as the Senior Administrative Assistant in June of

2013. She is a proud USI alum with a degree in Communications. Evelyn will help the Center’s mission to

enhance the personal and academic success of students by preparing them to be responsible citizens in a

multicultural society. If you begin receiving Facebook invites or Twitter messages from the Center, it’s

probably Evelyn informing you on the latest.

Evelyn, welcome to the team!

College Mentors for Kids Game Night

College Mentors for Kids (CMFK) is a non profit organization that pairs college

students with elementary students for weekly activities that expose the youth to

college experiences. In the Evansville community, USI partners with Glenwood Lead-

ership Academy to facilitate positive relationships. This USI/Glenwood group meets

every Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. during the school year (excluding school breaks and

holidays). This is an opportunity for interested USI students to meet current men-

tors, learn more about the program, and find out how to get involved in the pro-

gram. The CMFK Game Night will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 3:30

p.m. in the RFWC Quiet Lounge.

On Thursday, August 22, the Multicultural Center hosted the Cultural Diversity Welcome Reception in

Carter Hall for new multicultural students. The reception began with mixing and mingling among the

attendees. Following this, the program continued with remarks of encouragement from President Linda

L.M. Bennett, Trustee Ted Ziemer, and Provost Ronald Rochon. Religious Life and returning students,

shared information about getting involved and connected through any of the 100+ student organizations

at USI. The Counseling Center, Honors Program, Student Support Services, Academic Skills, Student

Development, and the Multicultural Center ended the program by giving care packages away to new

students as a way to say “Welcome to USI and remember our offices. We are here to serve you.”

If you enjoy gospel music, fellowship with Designed by Grace Gospel Choir on Monday, August

26 at 6 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge in UC East. The gospel choir has planned a number of fun

activities for the evening. If you are interested in joining Designed by Grace Gospel Choir, this

will be a great opportunity to learn about the choir and membership expectations. Generally,

rehearsals will be on Mondays at 6 p.m. Plan to keep this time available and come sing praises to

the most high. Musicians, you are more than welcome to attend the Gospel Choir Fun Night.

The choir has room for anyone with musical talent. If you are interested in being a part of the

choir but not able to attend the Gospel Choir Fun Night, email Evelyn Bako Ferguson at

[email protected] and let her know.

If you are ready to get the grades you are striving for this semester, take advantage of our tutoring service in the MCC. The Multicultural Center and Academic Skills have partnered to provide a space for USI students to study and even get a little help in Math, Science, Study Skills, and English to mention a few. If this sounds like an environment you would like to be a part of, come and see what we are all about. Tutoring will resume on September 9, 2013 from 3-5 p.m. in the Multicultural Center.
