FUND INFORMATION INVESTMENT PROCESS MultiAsset s primary tenet is to construct a range of target return portfolios that, individually or combined, allow the investor the greatest opportunity to attain their financial goals. Selecting the right asset manager and implementing an appropriate asset allocation forms the basis of our philosophy. Selecting the Managers MultiAsset has identified four key criteria that define a manager s unique DNA: * Beta sensitivity of investment returns to changes in market returns * Alpha extent to which a fund has outperformed the sector average * Win-loss ratio ratio of winning trades (positive returns) to losing trades (negative returns) * Recovery-drawdown ratio ratio of recovery time following maximum drawdown performance to previous peak With the intimate understanding of each manager s unique DNA we are able to capture individual manager excellence and combine them synergistically. Selecting an Appropriate Asset allocation * Understanding the risk and diversification attributes of each asset class in relation to the investment objective and time horizon forms the foundation. * An active tactical asset allocation overlay ensures that the fund is tilted to take cognizance of the global macro environment. February rewarded investors for risk but equally provided a range of concerns towards the end of the month as an unexpected rout in global bonds drew attention to the rising risks of inflation. Growth stocks sold off sharply as central banks intervened to stabilise yields. US Federal Reserve chairman, Jerome Powell, sought to calm markets by indicating that the Fed would continue to buy bonds for “the foreseeable future.”

Will this be enough? We recognize that while the Fed has been able to supply copious liquidity to the market, the real issue is the rise in real interest rates and the relationship that this has to equity prices. One school of thought suggests that equity markets will continue to rise given the indefinite support by central banks and a recovery in global economic growth by the end of 2021. The other school of thought speaks to a rise in inflation as supply constraints and a relatively weak dollar push prices up across many sectors of the economy. The path followed by equity markets will probably be somewhere in between although the risk of a correction from current levels cannot be ruled out. Equity markets do not favour rising interest rates, whether nominal or real.

Your portfolio produced a positive return for the month adding to the returns achieved over the year to date, past three and six months. Despite a well-received Budget from Minister Mboweni that was underlined by a bond rally in the immediate aftermath, global risk sentiment will be worth watching for how it affects local capital markets.

An analysis of factors affecting the adherence to the policy objective is contained in the fund manager commentary together with performance as reported. A detailed listing of changes from the previous quarter is available on request from [email protected]  or [email protected]
