    Guidelines of Scholarships for International Students in National

    Hsinchu University of Education

    I. In order to promote the internationalization and to attract international students with excellentperformance to study in National Hsinchu University of Education, the Guidelines ofScholarships for International Students in National Hsinchu University of Education are

    proclaimed based on the MOE Regulations Regarding International Students UndertakingStudies in Taiwan.

    II. The term international students refers to the international students in Article 2 of the MOERegulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan.

    III. Qualification for Application(I) International students who apply for the admission following the National Hsinchu

    University of Education Admission Prospectus for International Students, excludingexchange students, students who enroll based on academic cooperation agreements and

    part-time students.

    (II) Current international students (excluding postponed students, exchange students,students who enroll based on academic cooperation agreements and part-time students)who have studied for at least one academic year and have official academicregistrations in the University.

    IV. International students who have received any types of scholarship or subsidy from the R.O.C.(Taiwan) government are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

    V. Time for Application and Office in ChargeProspective/New international students shall apply for this scholarship at the same time of

    applying for the admission of the University. Current international students shall submit the

    application 2 weeks before the start of a new semester. Both applications shall be delivered to

    the Division of Registration, Office of Academic Affairs of the University. Applications later

    than the due date will be rejected.

    VI. Application forms(I) Prospective/New international students

    1. One completed Scholarship Application Form for New International Students (SeeAttachment 1)

    2. One copy of the application form as in the National Hsinchu University of EducationAdmission Prospectus for International Students

    3. One copy of the official transcript of the highest academic degree or level in Englishor Chinese from the previous school

    (II) Current international students1. One completed Scholarship Application Form for Current International Students (See

    Attachment 2)

    One copy of the official transcript from the previous semester in the University

    3. One copy of the front and the back of Student ID CardVII. Scholarship content

    (I) New international students will have the tuition waiver and free school dormitoryaccommodation in the first academic year. (If there is no vacancy at the school dormitory,

    the students may receive a deduction from the miscellaneous fee. The amount of deduction

    is equal to the minimum fee of the school dormitory.)

    (II) Current international students1. Each semester, a scholarship of NT$20,000 and free school dormitory accommodation

    will be provided to a bachelor student with academic average over 80 and conduct

    grade over 80 in the previous semester and to a master/Ph.D student with academic

    average over 85 and conduct grade over 80. (If there is no vacancy at the school

    dormitory, the students may receive a deduction from the miscellaneous fee. The

    amount of deduction is equal to the minimum fee of the school dormitory.)

    2. Each semester, a scholarship of NT$20,000 will be provided to a bachelor student withacademic average over 75 and conduct grade over 80 in the previous semester and to a

    master/Ph.D student with academic average over 80 and conduct grade over 80.

    3. Each semester, a scholarship of NT$15,000 will be provided to a bachelor student withacademic average over 70 and conduct grade over 80 in the previous semester and to a

    master/Ph.D student with academic average over 75 and conduct grade over 80.

    The duration for the scholarship as provided with a bachelor student is three years and one

    year with a master/Ph.D student. The scholarship will be deducted from the tuition feewhich the recipient shall pay in the new semester.

    (III)If the recipient is unable to live in the school dormitory due to personal reasons, he/sheshall declare for giving up the right at the time of application. Recipients, who have given

    up the right, may receive a deduction from the miscellaneous fee of the new semester. The

    amount of deduction is equal to a half of the minimum fee of the school dormitory.

    VIII. Obligations and norms for the recipient(I) In the new semester the recipient shall work at least four hours per week for the

    department, graduate institute, college or administrative office of the University. The

    working performance will serve as the awarding reference for the next semester.

    (II) If the new international student applies for deferred registration, he/she is naturallydisqualified for the scholarship in the first academic year.

    (III) During the scholarship effectiveness period in the new semester, if the recipient ispunished with a warning or worse punishment, the scholarship will be annulled after averification of the punishment.

    (IV) If the recipient deals with suspension, drop-out or transfer, the scholarship will beannulled.

    (V) If the recipient has made absence to any subject he/she chooses and the absence hasaccumulated over one-third of the total taught hours, the scholarship will be annulled.

    (VI) If the recipient fake or lie about the information written on the application forms orrelative documents, the scholarship will be annulled.

    (VII) If the recipient is graduated or his/her scholarship has been annulled, the subsequenttransfer and the right of free school dormitory accommodation will be terminated.

    (VIII) As for the regulations on school dormitory accommodation, the recipient shall refer tothe contents of Guidelines for School Dormitory Management.

    IX. Review: The Dean of Academic Affairs will act as the convener of the InternationalScholarship Review Committee. The members of the Committee include Dean of

    Academic Affairs, Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of General Affairs, Director of Accounting

    Office, Director of Secretariat, Dean of College of Education, Dean of College of Liberal

    Arts, and Dean of College of Science. The applications are examined and evaluated by the

    Committee and approved by the President.

    The review procedures are as follows:

    (I) New international students: The decisions are made by the International Student

    Scholarship Review Committee through the academic grades, performances and

    achievements of past schools, authorized test grades and other supplementary

    documents.

    (II) Current international students: The preliminary review is made by the Division ofRegistration of Academic Affairs Department according to the Article 7-2 of the

    Regulation. The final decisions are made by the International Student Scholarship

    Review Committee.

    (III) An applicant, who has questions about the results, may file a written appeal to the

    International Student Scholarship Review Committee within five days after the results

    are announced. Appeals later than the due date will be rejected. The accepted appeal

    shall be handled and made a formal reply to the applicant within a month by

    International Student Scholarship Review Committee. A task force may be formed tohandle the appeal, if necessary.

    X. Financial source: The expenses of the scholarship will be covered by the various incomes of

    the University and relating subsidies from the government.

    XI. The scholarship for exchange students or those who are admitted under the academiccooperation agreement or other types of cooperation with foreign educational institutions can be

    stipulated in accordance with the Guidelines or regulated individually.

    XII. The Guidelines will be in full practice once passed by the Administrative Meeting andratified by the President.
