Guidelines for NCU Foreign Student Scholarship
Approved in NCU 500th administration conference on Aril 20, 2009
I. The scholarship aims to promote the international academic research and
competitiveness.
II. Funding Sources: grants offered by NCU, governments, private sectors,
individuals, enterprises...etc.
III. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be full-time foreign students who registered in NCU and
accord to “NCU Regulations for Foreign Student Admission”
2. The applicant is not a recipient of other scholarships.
3. Incoming Students: Submit the Chinese or English Proficiency Certificate
during the admission application.
4. NCU Current students:
(1) Undergraduate Students: The minimum average score of last two
semesters while studying in NCU must not be lower than 70.
(2) Graduate Students: The minimum average score of last two semesters
while studying in NCU must not be lower than 80.
(3) Applicants should pass at least one Chinese course provided by NCU
Language Center. (This regulation is effective starting from NCU
foreign students admitted in academic year 2010.)
IV. Award and Duration
1. The scholarship award is decided by the committee according to the
applicant’s academic performance.
2. The maximum amount of scholarship for undergraduate, master, PhD
students is as the following table:
Maximum Scholarship
Within Semester Summer Vacation: July& August
Undergraduate TWD$10,000 per month TWD $6,000 per month
Master TWD$15,000 per month TWD $10,000 per month
PhD TWD$25,000 per month TWD $10,000 per month
3. The maximum duration of scholarship:
(1) Undergraduate Students: 4 years.
(2) Master Degree Students: 2 years.
(3) PhD Degree Students: 3 years.
4. Scholarship recipients of Master’s and PhD programs can be considered for
waivers of tuition and credit fees.
V. Application Procedures:
1. New Students: two-phase evaluations
(1) Phase I: The applicant submits the following documents along with the
admission application.
a. Application form for NCU Foreign Student scholarship
b. Language proficiency certificate such as Chinese Proficiency Test
TOCFL3, TOEFL CBT 173/IBT 61/ Paper 500, TOEIC 600 or similar
language proficiency certificates.
(2) Phase II: Within two months after enrollment in NCU, the recipients
from 1st evaluation should hand in the required document according to
the announcement.
Required documents:
a. Appraisal form completed by lecturers of every course the applicant
takes.
b. A recommendation letter from applicant’s advisor.
c. Copies of student ID card, Passport, ARC, and post office account
book.
2. NCU Current Students:
(1) Application Period: from June 15th to July 15th every year.
(2) Applicants must submit all required and complete documents as
follows:
a. Application form
b. Transcript of last two academic semesters, which includes class
ranking. (The transcript may be submitted by August 15th)
c. A recommendation letter from applicant’s advisor.
d. Other supporting documents (e.g. the transcript of qualifying
examination, published thesis…etc.)
e. Copies of student ID card, Passport, ARC, and post office account
book
VI. The scholarship is granted to each recipient for one academic year. This
scholarship will be deposited into recipients’ post office accounts on a monthly
basis
VII. The scholarship will be terminated in one of following conditions:
1. Scholarship recipient withdraw, or graduate from NCU, transfer to other
schools, work illegally, or are absent from classes more than two weeks
without notice.
2. If the recipients have a poor performance concerning their attendances,
academic performances, behaviors, disciplinary reasons or other situations
during the awarding period, the scholarship will be terminated according to
result of investigation.
3. If compulsory courses for graduation are not complete yet, the recipients
have to take at least two courses each semester which related to their
professions. If there’s an exception, this rule may be neglected once
approved by the department.
VIII. The Committee of NCU Scholarship includes Dean of International Affairs,
Academic Affairs, Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of Research and
Development, and one representative from each college.
IX. The guidelines and the amendments will become effective after approval of
NCU Administration conference.
