Check out our calendar of events on the back page for dates and times for all of our upcoming events! Special events the Muhlenberg Arts Advisory Council is involved with this month include Squash and Gobble, An evening with Sandi Patty, International Home of the legends thumbpicking weekend, and much more. September 2014 Muhlenberg Arts Advisory Council Sandi Patty will be coming to Felix Martin Jr. Hall on Septem- ber 20th at 7pm. Don’t miss this concert! Muhlenberg Arts Advi- sory Council’s community sing- ers will be singing backup for some of Sandi Patty’s songs at this concert too! Tickets are available for only $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are already on sale at http:// www.felixmartinhall.org/ purchase.html. As one of the most highly ac- claimed performers of our time with five Grammy® awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three platinum records, five gold rec- ords, and eleven million units sold, Sandi Patty is simply known as The Voice. Sandi is the most awarded fe- male vocalist in contemporary Christian music history, with 40 Dove Awards. She was induct- ed into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and as an Indiana Living Legend in 2007. She has released over 30 albums, in- cluding her latest album “Everlasting” exclusively at Target Stores, through Somer- set, Ltd. “Everlasting” features notable hymns and songs of worship in an intimate and acoustic setting. Her debut full length symphonic pops album “Broadway Stories”, conducted by Maestro Jack Everly, was released on October 18, 2011 to rave reviews. Sandi was introduced to the world with her rendition of The Star Spangled Banner during the rededication of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Virtually over- night she became one of the country’s best-loved performers. Her version of the national an- them has become synonymous with patriotic celebration, includ- ing performances at “A Capitol Fourth” with the National Sym- phony, the Indianapolis 500, the Dedication of Camp David Chapel, and ABC’s Fourth of July Special. While her thirty-year career is heavily rooted in the gospel music industry, Sandi has had the opportunity in more recent years to extend her career out- side the genre. Sandi has per- formed with symphonies across the country, including the New York Pops, Boston Pops, Cin- cinnati Pops, Dallas Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. She also head- lined the title role in sold out performances of the musical “Hello, Dolly!” with the Indianap- olis Symphony Orchestra, co- starring Tony Award winner Gary Beach in January 2012. Don’t miss Greenville's 6th annual

"Squash & Gobble," an outdoor art fair

held around the historic downtown

square. "Squash & Gobble" features

various artisans from all across Western

Kentucky. In 2013, over 60 artisan

booths were present. These booths fea-

tured painting, drawing, jewelry mak-

ing, stained glass creations, homemade

candles & soaps, photography, pottery,

woodworking, furniture and many oth-

ers. In addition, there will be live musi-

cal performances throughout the day on

the Veterans Plaza Stage featuring Ow-

ensboro’s Lanham Brothers Jamboree

and Muhlenberg County’s own excep-

tional talent! There will also be multiple

activities offered for all the kiddos out

there. Every activity is FREE and will

We have had a lot of great fun at Open Mic nights at the palace theatre! The talent we have in Muhlenberg County is amazing.

If you haven’t been yet we are having another open mic night on October 17th from 7pm-9pm at the Muhlenberg Community

Theatre Inc’ s Palace theatre. It will be great time had by all. Donations will be taken at the door to support both MCTI and

Muhlenberg Arts Advisory Council. Concessions will also be sold at the event. Below are pictures of just some of our acts we

have had on stage. Thank you to all of our performers we have had thus far as well as our audience members.

Thumbpicking Weekend and Thumbpicking

Championship will be September 26-28 at

the Merle Travis Center located at 750

Cleaton Rd. Powderly, Kentucky.

"This annual event is hosted by the National

Thumbpickers Hall of Fame (NTPHF), an

organization whose goal is to honor, pre-

serve, and promote thumbpicking and its

heritage. The weekend of activities kicks off

on Friday with a ceremony to honor various

categories of living and deceased thumbpick-

ers and supporters. Saturday’s events begin

with a thumbpicking contest in the morning

and conclude with an evening concert featur-

ing various pickers and a well known

thumbpicking artist. The weekend will close

out on Sunday with an open mic jam session

in Paradise Park home to Merle Travis’s birth

house who is credited with inventing the

thumbpicking style of guitar playing."
