The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Sania Nishtar along with Ehsaas ministry officials visited Pishin, Balochistan and conducted a review of the current status of survey under BISP. Mr. Arif Mengal, Senior Management Executive, MER informed the participants about PPAF’s on-going projects in Balochistan, especially, IFL and Livelihood Enhancement Program. During the meeting, PPAF and BRSP team members informed that as many as 15,000
beneficiaries will be graduated in district Jhal Magsi, Zhob and Sherani under the National Poverty Graduation Programme (NPGP). Responding to Dr. Sania Nishtar query, IFL team provided IFL programme progress till date and future plans with timetable i.e. number of partners, loans, assets and districts, etc. The PPAF team members also briefed on progress of survey till August 2019, while BRSP provided overall progress of their survey of 0.9 million households in 25 districts of Balochistan.
The Renewable Energy team has initiated the final testing and commissioning of four completed mini hydropower projects (MHP) under the KfW funded HRE Project in Upper Dir and Chitral with the support of Chinese engineers, project consultants and partner organisations. The team has s u c c e s s f u l l y commissioned 200 kW MHP Bishoo Patrak in Upper Dir, which will ultimately benefit over 700 households and initiated commissioning of 125 kW MHP Pursat in Chitral which will benefit 227 households. The
final testing and commissioning includes continuous operation of plant for at least 72 hours on varying load and discharge, full load testing and other technical tests. Commissioning of two more MHPs (306 kW Gazen and 136 kW Gollain Astore) in Chitral is also underway. The team is expected to complete the process of commissioning of four MHPs in a month’s time. PPAF is leading electrification drive of off-grid and remote areas through clean, green and reliable energy resources.

NPGP Orientation Workshops for Partner Organisations

The National Poverty Graduation Programme (NPGP) organised orientation workshops for Partner Organisations including SRSO, TRDP and NRSP in September 2019. The three-days orientation workshop encompassed sessions to capacitate the staff of partner organisations about programme introduction, detailed implementation strategy of each component intervention such as asset transfer and associated trainings, Interest Free Loan under Poverty Graduation and
community capacity b u i l d i n g trainings/sessions on SDGs under SM component. The orientation sessions also included compliance requirements related to Procurement, ESMF, MER, Communication and Branding, Financial Management and Reporting and MIS. The 4 orientation workshops were conducted for the staff of SRSO in Sukkur, for TRDP staff in Mithi, Tharparkar, for NRSP Lower Sindh staff in Hyderabad, for NRSP staff for South Punjab in
D.G.Khan. The orientation workshops for the POs of KP and Balochistan will be held in October 2019. The National Poverty Graduation Programme aimed to assist the ultra-poor and very poor in graduating out of poverty on a sustainable basis; simultaneously improving their overall food security, nutritional status and resilience to climate change. The programme is targeting people all across Pakistan covering 375 Union Councils in 23 districts in the four provinces of Pakistan.

HR organised Two-day Customized Training Session on ‘Communication Skills’ for selected PPAF staff members aimed to introduce and discuss contemporary concepts and techniques that lead to improved communications. A total of 19 participants from various units and cadres participated in the training. The session was led by Mr. Amjad Pervaiz, from MDI who has extensive experience in delivering trainings on effective communication skills.

Institution & Integration Unit Workshop on Video Documentary

Under Small Grant Project of Capacity Building of Small Organisations of Balochistan, KPK and FATA, Unit has organised three days’ workshop, PPAF’s Core values, & Disability mainstreaming and inclusive development and making video documentary at district Swat on dated 18th to 20th September 2019. In total 31 participants of 11 partners have participated in the workshop, three resource persons; Mr. Jawad Hamdani, Mr. Atif Shaikh and Ms. Raabiya Babar and unit team have taken sessions of their respective topics. The objective of workshop was to give awareness about PPAF’s core values, mainstreaming disability for inclusive development and give orientation about making video documentary and developing case studies.
The methodology of workshop was to give presentations, display videos, group work, brainstorming and to open interactive discussions. further pre-and post-assessment was also carried out to measure participants learning. At the end of workshop, the participants are able to apply

To improve overall understanding of LACIP-II activities, two day orientation workshops were organised for NRSP, SABAWON, SRSP and KK. The workshops were hosted by LACIP unit. The project staff of LACIP-II and LACIP-I extension were invited at the workshop. LACIP monitoring consultant NEC, PPAF F&A, Procurement, ESM, MER and MIS units delivered presentations to clear the concepts of the participants. The basic objective of the orientation workshops was to orient LACIP project staff of the POs on interventions with respect to overall outcome indicators, new concepts and new financing agreement clauses. The workshops were a useful opportunity and a valuable resource as it
provided guidance on all aspects and relevant themes of LACIP through power point presentations and discussions. The new operational modalities of LACIP were elaborated by PPAF’s senior officials in terms of how they are important during the
coming LACIP implementation phase as well as partner organisations were also informed about their responsibilities to move into action. While all project staff was well aware of PPAF and has worked LACIP-II Design phase, however the
need for orientation workshops were arisen in the context of PPAF’ revised policies and procedures, which made it important to provide a thorough orientation to all staff members on their new roles and responsibilities.
