tion Program, as well the Confirmation Parents Class, will resume. And Family Ministry activities, Social Ministry events, the Choir, and congregational fel-lowship events will all be starting again.
In worship news, the Organ Renovation Project should be all completed by the middle of August, so that the sound of the
wonderful pipe organ will be return-ing to our later worship service!
At Muddy Creek, we have so much to be thankful for. But the most im-portant thing is that we are thankful of the blessing of being able to be with each other in the Spirit of our
Risen Jesus.
Have a wonderful August! We look for-ward to you being refreshed, as we work together to promote the love of Jesus Christ in the world!
From the Pastors
Bishop Dunlop Coming to Muddy Creek
On Sunday, September 16th, we are privileged to have Bishop James Dunlop of our Lower Susquehanna Synod, ELCA, coming to Muddy Creek Lutheran Church. Bishop Dunlop will preach at both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. worship services, and will also lead the Adult Fo-rum (held in the Annex part of the sanctuary) at 9:00 a.m. to discuss the work of our synod.
In August, we will once again be having our annual church pic-nic in the Grove on Sunday Au-gust 19th (see inside this newsletter for more details). And as we prepare to gear up for our Fall program in September, we are also excited and looking forward to so many wonderful upcoming opportunities. Sunday School for children/youth and the Adult Forum begin again. The Confirma-

Special Congregational Meeting on August 5th
The Special Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, August 5, after both worship services. This meeting was rescheduled to August 5th due to lack of quorum on July 1, the original date. Following voting after the 8 a.m service on August 5th, the meeting will be recessed and then resume after the 9 a.m. service. Please take a background information sheet from the table under the mailboxes in preparation for the meeting.
We will vote on two expenditure items: Approval of an additional $14,000 for the Organ Renovation Project, to be taken from the $14,000.82 remaining in the Organ Fund, and approval of up to $29,146 to Horst Construction for preconstruction/design costs with regard to Elevator and/or Kitchen Projects, to be taken from funds from the sale of the Chapel in the Improvement Fund.

Upcoming Events Usher Training
Sunday August 26
For all ushers who were unable to attend the June 10th usher training, there will be another training session on Sunday, August 26 at 10:15 a.m. about hospitality, medical emergencies and active shooter (extremely rare oc-casion) emergencies. If you cannot attend on August 26 and were not able to come on June 10, an individual training will be scheduled with you.
If you attended the June 10th training, you do not need to come to this one.
Sunday Morning
Volunteers
Please consider being a part of the many won-derful and dedicated people who assist on Sun-day morning at Muddy Creek. Currently, we particularly need help in the following areas:
Nursery weekly volunteers
Coffee ministry volunteers (sign up on clipboard on snack table)
Ushers and acolytes
Altar Guild volunteers (1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month)
Please contact the office or the pastors if you are interested or would like to find out more.
Lutheran World Relief
Ingathering
Donations Needed
Every Fall, our synod makes an appeal called an “Ingathering” to collect quilts, school kits, baby care kits, and soap to be sent all over the world to those in need through Lutheran World Relief. For the last several years, Muddy Creek has been assembling school kits that were utilized by refu-gees in need. Last year, our school kits were sent to refugee children in the countries of Jordan and El Salvador.
This year we plan again on assembling school kits on Sunday, September 9th. You can help by donating the following new items (please pay attention to the specifics of each item, as it is a requirement that each LWR kit be identical; no religious or patriotic symbols please):
70 sheet spiral notebooks, wide or college-ruled, approx. 8 x10 1/2
Small pencil sharpeners
Small blunt scissors (or safety scissors)
Unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers
Black or blue ballpoint pens—new
Crayons, 16 or 24 per box
2 1/2” erasers
12” rulers
You can also help by donating new bars of soap in original wrappers (4—5 oz. size).
Please place donations in the box under the mail-boxes by Sunday, August 26. Questions: contact Pastor Peter
God’s Work Our Hands
September 9th
Children, youth and families are invited to use your hands for God’s work by assembling the Lutheran World Relief School Kits on Sunday September 9th. We will gather for
pizza, learn a little about the impact the school kits have for children around the world, and assemble the items for shipping.

Church Picnic
Sunday Aug. 19
Everyone is invited to the annual church picnic at Muddy Creek Grove. The fun will begin imme-diately after 10:30 a.m. outdoor worship.
Guessing games and other activities for all ages, guests and visitors, are featured at the picnic. Please bring a small, wrapped gift to play "Now You Have It, Now You Don't." No need to bring food. It will be provided, thanks to money from Thrivent. Thanks to the Parish Life Committee for planning the picnic, and pre-paring and serving the lunch.

Sunday School for
Children, Youth, and Adults
Resumes September 9, 9 a.m.
Muddy Creek is blessed with some amazing teachers who are dedicated to helping us learn and grow in our faith. Mark your calendars now for another new year of learning, fellowship, and fun! Classes are for children, youth and adults of all ages.
We will begin the year with a special opening for all ages at 9 a.m. and then we will head to the classrooms and meet your teachers. New friends are always welcome and encouraged.
Some things that are in the works for the Fall are the Ingathering and Pizza, and a special offer-ing project.
Interested in going on mission trip with others from Muddy Creek and the area to make a difference in the lives of those recovering from the devas-tating hurricane in Puerto Rico? You are invited to an initial infor-mation meeting on Sunday, Au-gust 5th at 2 p.m. at the Commu-nity Room of Luther Acres in Lititz. The North Lancaster County Lutheran Confer-ence is sponsoring this exciting mission trip during the first or second week of November. The hope is to keep the cost per participant to under $150. Addition-al financial help is also available. If you are interested but unable to attend, contact Pastor Glenn Beard at [email protected] or talk to Pastor Peter.

Sunday School will resume September 9.
We had a wonderful VBS this year at Muddy Creek with about 50 students, youth and adults participating or helping. $258 was collected to help needy kids in Haiti get packages of food through Kids Against Hunger.
Plans are underway for the 2018-19 school year. Most of our wonderful teachers will be returning.
Social Ministry Committee
Thank you to all who helped with the Community Meal we served on July 12 at the Methodist Church in Denver for disadvantaged people in the Denver area. We had a total of 61 people who were served (that includes our 12 folks from Muddy Creek who helped). We sent food to two shut-ins, and put pints of barbecue in the freezer that can be given to shut-ins.
Evangelism Committee
Thank you to all who helped with the Community Yard Sale in our Grove on June 9th. It was a great success, with many from our community participating in the free event. Thanks also to the Choir for operating the food stand.
Parish Life Committee
Parish Life met to plan the upcoming Church Picnic on August 19.
