Prior to his injury, Kevin was prominently featured in Scholastic Changes, a life skills magazine for teenagers. After reading the article about Kevin and his brother David, who has Down syndrome, the BCAS students were inspired to write Kevin a letter and send cards offering a few words of encouragement. The students were later thrilled to receive a return pack- age in the mail that included a note from Kevin’s mother and a few signed copies of the magazine. The students plan to keep in touch with Kevin throughout his recovery. Submitted by Mark Keaton The 29th annual Northern Arkansas District Spring Junior Livestock Show will be today and Saturday at Bax- ter County Fairgrounds in Mountain Home. The horse show will be at Mountain Home Saddle Club Arena on Saturday. Both the livestock show and horse show are open to the public and admission is free. The public is invited to come and see the youth show their animals. The show is for 4-H and FFA members who have live- stock-related projects. The six counties eligible to attend include Baxter, Boone, Carroll, Marion, Newton, and Searcy. Horses will be entered and the horse show will start at 9 a.m. Saturday for performance events, followed by speed events at the arena. All other livestock and poul- try will be in place by 8 p.m. today at the fairgrounds. A beef-fitting contest will begin at 7:00 p.m., today, at the fairgrounds. The first event Saturday will be the youth-judging con- test at 8:30 a.m., followed by official judging of all other livestock throughout the day. Complete catalogs and schedules are available at the University of Arkansas Di- vision of Agriculture Cooperative Extension office. Elliot Golmon, president of the Junior District Spring Show, encourages all interested persons to support our youth as they show their livestock projects in competi- tion. Golman emphasized that the show provides 4-H and FFA youth with an opportunity to gain valuable experi- ence in showing livestock. The show also serves as a preview or practice run for the fall shows and fairs. In the barbecue contest judges Dell and Edsel In- berg based their evaluations on taste and quality of prepared poultry and the 4-H’ers’ ability to set up and maintain their grill and fire. In the Outdoor O’Rama con- test participants were evaluated on their bicycle, bait-casting and BB gun-shooting skills. The three O’Rama activities were accompanied by a written safety and identification test.
