BCAS students offer encouragementStudents at Baxter County Alternative School were recently inspired to send a letter to snowboarder Kevin
Pearce, who was severely injured in the qualifying events of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Prior to his injury, Kevinwas prominently featured in Scholastic Changes, a life skills magazine for teenagers. After reading the article aboutKevin and his brother David, who has Down syndrome, the BCAS students were inspired to write Kevin a letterand send cards offering a few words of encouragement. The students were later thrilled to receive a return pack-age in the mail that included a note from Kevin’s mother and a few signed copies of the magazine. The studentsplan to keep in touch with Kevin throughout his recovery.
