ThisresearchalsoshedssomelightonearlierscientificfindingsfromtheuniversityofMichigan,CityuniversityofNewYorkandHarvarduniversity.Inthatstudy,individualswithchronicmigrainesreceivedelectricalimpulsestotheirskullsthroughattachedsensors.Althoughthesubjects’painlevelandintensitydecreased,theresearcherswerenotexactlycertainhowthisoccurred.

Scientistshaveconfirmedthatyourancestorsmaybethesourceofyourfamily’stendencytowardbothmigrainesandepilepsy.Thismaybegintoexplainwhycertainanti-seizuremedication,suchasTopiramate,isusefulforbothtreatingepilepsyandpreventingmigraines.
Interestingly,neurostimulationhasbeenaneffectivetreatmentforchronicmigraines,andisalsobeingusedtotreatpeoplewithepilepsy,whocannottolerateorbenefitfrommedication.
ResearchersfromColumbiauniversityMedicalCenterinNewYorkreviewedmedicaldatafrom730patientswithepilepsy.Theyfoundthattherewasanincreasedlikelihoodofmigrainewithauraandothervisualdisturbancesamongthosesubjectswithatleast3closefamilymemberswhoalsohadseizuredisorders.
