A Note from the Principal Hello Mt. Vernon families and friends! With Spring Break behind us, we look forward to many events, celebrations and a very important Coin Drive Fundraiser for one of our students. Please see the attached fundraiser poster for Audrey Ogan, a fifth grade student at Mt. Vernon. Over Spring Break she suffered a traumatic brain injury while caring for her pony. Mt. Vernon students and families will have the opportunity to support Audrey in her recovery through this coin drive.!

Please note that on April 11 we will have our Volunteer Appreciation Celebration in the library. This is our opportunity to thank the many, many people that support our students and school by volunteering to share their time and talents.!

Spring is the time for PTA Board Member elections. Please see the attached flyers on our PTA Restructure plans for the 2014-2015 school year. Mt. Vernon PTA is a large part of our volunteer force and sponsors the extra curricular activities and events our students and families enjoy. Our Calendar of Events this month shows: PTA sponsored Skate Night, the Book Exchange, our Family Fun Night, the 2nd grade music performance, and much more. Also, please note that Friday, April 11, is a regular school day for Springfield elementary schools.!

!VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

!For April, we would like to express our appreciation for a volunteer who tends to just appear at times when she is not expected, but most needed. From classroom to Family Center, Christi Hawkins does a bit of everything. During the worst of our winter, Christi helped by voluntarily standing out in the cold with Mrs. Nees during the snow days to help students out of cars and into the building safely. Mom of Cody, Christi is at Mt. Vernon early every day, checking in with Mrs. Stern’s classroom and the Family Center and pitching in wherever needed.

Christi is a wonderful help to our class and me this year. She’s warm and friendly and is willing to help us in any way she can. — Jenny Stern

A coffee card, compliments of Dutch Bros. at 42nd and Main, is only a small token of appreciation for all Christi does for Mt. Vernon teachers and students.
