282 Mount Rumney Rd.

Tried unsuccessfully to contact the residents, so no follow-up occurred as hoped

243 Mount Rumney Rd.

This property was added to the list, after consultation with the owner and council

It was agreed that there would be a shared responsibility in covering the cost of treatment. The owner has been treating Spanish Heath for as many as ten years, but not so much in recent years which gave the weed population the freedom to re-populate

Much of the property was populated by the Spanish Heath

Unfortunately it rained just as I finished for the day, moderate fall for 20 mins or so this may well have an impact on the result. Less than 1ml of rain was forecast, so it wasn’t anticipated

Sprayed with Croplands 500 litre ute mounted spray unit

Chemicals used - 450 litres Garlon mix

Conditions - No wind Overcast, Rain late 16 degrees C.

Time taken - 10 hours (landowner to pay for 4 hours )

269 Mount Rumney Rd.

This infestation was located adjacent to the property boundary with 243

Access was gained via 243

Sprayed along the fenceline and up to 50 metres from the fence

It was a mature patch of Spanish Heath

There are more mature plants remaining untreated!

Chemicals used - 350 litres Garlon mix

Conditions - No wind Overcast 16 degrees C.

Time taken - 4 hours

295 Mount Rumney Rd.

I wasn’t given permission to access this property, despite it being a high priority, containing both Spanish Heath and Serrated Tussock

137 Mt.Rumney Rd. and adjacent easement

This property was covered in mature Spanish Heath

The infestation spread into the adjacent easement, and road verge

The Croplands 500 litre ute mounted spray unit was employed here

I sprayed the easement, the roadside and up to 50 metres from the fenceline into the property

Chemicals Used - 1000 litres of Garlon mix

Conditions - Calm Partly cloudy 14 degrees C.

Comments - There was a heavy dew, so I used higher rates of chemicals

Time taken - 10 hours

321 Mt.Rumney Rd.

Followed up on a Spanish Heath patch which I found to be completely dead, no new growth, but discovered Serrated Tussock, which I treated using backpack sprayer, treated up to 200 seedlings spread over the property, mostly on the Western side and below the house heading into the gully

Chemicals Used - 15 litres Kenock mix

Conditions - Light breeze Sunny 16 degrees C.

Time taken - 1.5 hours

182 Grahams Rd.

Followed up on a Spanish Heath patch located under power lines on the property, finding minimal regrowth, but what I did find was regrowth on large plants which I Cut & Dabbed with Glyphosate

Time taken - 1 hour

Re-treated a patch of Gorse which had minimal re-growth by spraying with Garlon mix

Chemicals Used - 20 litres Garlon mix

Time taken - .5 hours

There was a significant amount of Serrated Tussock on the property, many mature, up to 200 plants in total located around the shed and along Northern boundary which I sprayed with Kenock mix using backpack sprayer

Chemicals Used - 20 litres Kenock mix

Conditions - Light breeze Sunny 16 degrees C.

Time taken - 1.5 hours

197 Grahams Rd.

This property was added to the list of priorities

Large infestation of mature Serrated Tussock

Treated using Croplands 500 litre ute mounted spray unit

Treated the bottom half of the property up to the house, but noticed more above the house

Chemicals used - 600 litres Kenock mix

Conditions - Calm Sunny 16 degrees C.

Time taken - 7.5 hours

Recommendations

Continue to try to encourage Helga and Udo Kusch to contribute to the cost of weed control on their properties, otherwise perhaps the Care group can spend some time here as it has been highlighted as a priority in the past

Speak to Mark Pinnington about the possibility of contributing to the control of Spanish Heath on his property. Although it is a significant population it is absolutely controllable

Bruce Banks has had someone spray some of the Serrated Tussock on his property earlier this year, with mixed results, but there is still work to do above his house, so he may be keen to pay me to treat it

Bruce Banks’ neighbours have also got Serrated Tussock on their property, so it would be useful to get them on board with the project also

There is one day of funding remaining if I am not mistaken, which could be applied in a number of areas as there is still a lot of weeds out there!

Some of the properties on the work schedule where not treated because of the inclusion of 243 Mt.Rumney Rd. and 197 Grahams Rd.

Breakdown of costs

Ute mounted sprayer 24.5 hours @ $50 per hour = $1375.00

Backpack sprayer / Cut & Dab 11.5 hours @ $45 per hour = $ 517.50

Admin 4.0 hours @ $45 per hour = $ 180.00

Chemcicals 11.0 litres @ $41 per litre = $ 451.00
