Here we are playing our last home game for the season against the current league leaders and premiership favourites Mt Barker. Since our exciting come from behind win against Onka Valley we have travelled out to Mt Pleasant and taken on Torrens Valley. In what was a great battle between the two side’s midfields and defences we received our second loss for the year by less than a goal. It was a disappointing loss as the playing group were confident that this was a very winnable game and was right there for the taking. However you sometimes need a bit of luck and that luck seemed to be with the opposition with 2 goals soccer kicked out of mid-air when in a game where the scores are close can be the difference. Round 15 saw us host Ironbank in what was again a very winnable game and the opportunity to reverse the result from our earlier match in the year. It was important for us that we get off to a good start however we were not switched on and the opposition jumped us putting solid scoreboard pressure on early (1-1 to 5-4). From quarter time the game was quite an arm wrestle with a lot the play occurring between the forward and defensive 50m arches. Both sides worked hard in the heavy conditions and the scoring opportunities slowed up. In the last quarter we managed to kick 6 points and put 2 kicks out on the full in the first 12 minutes and this inaccuracy would be our undoing as Ironbank went on to win by five goals. Again we were more than competitive and just let slip another opportunity to record a win. Last week we travelled to Hahndorf again with the confidence in securing another win against a top 5 team of the competition. Hahndorf got off to a flyer and had us on the back foot early with some scoreboard pressure. We responded well in the second quarter reducing the margin and playing some very good football. At the 19 minute mark we dropped our work rate and Hahndorf added 5 goals in the last ten minutes to undo all the earlier work. After halftime the players lifted their work rate and completely dominated the 3rd quarter with some great hand and foot skills. We worked our way back to striking distance of Hahndorf for the last quarter however the opposition, mainly through their new recruit in Handby, took control back to win the game. With just the 2 games left I would like to thank all of those supporters who have stood by our teams this year. It has been a very challenging season for everyone involved and your support has been unquestionable and we thank you for that. We are already in preparation mode for next season and very confident our young list will be much better for the challenges this season has thrown at us. To the players and coaches thank you for all your efforts and let’s finish this season off to the best of our abilities. B-gradeWelcome all to the last home report for Season 2012.

After promising performances against top 5 sides Ironbank & Onkaparinga Valley and a last gasp win against Torrens Valley we fronted Hahndorf at Hahndorf.

Unfortunately, early missed opportunities proved costly as Hahndorf kicked the first three goals of the game and weren’t headed after that. Injuries to Mantis, Matt Lenzi & Steve Wator before ¼ time left the bare 18 players for the remainder of the game. To the lads credit, everyone played to their limit for the rest of the game, but lack of resources proved crucial in the final wash up. A serious knee injury to Ryan Pistola at the start of the final term was the final straw in the match.

The final result wasn’t a true indication of the effort put in by the entire team but, unfortunately, that happens playing football.

Final Result: Mt Lofty 3-7 (25) def by Hahndorf 17-15 (117)

Best Players: Lee Mallyon, Michael Stapleton, Jordy nies Beer, Steve Drake, Daniel Lean. Goals: Cody Mirabello, Brad Hutton, Sam Goode.

Let’s all get behind the lads in our final home game for the year against Mt Barker.

Thanks to everyone involved in helping out the B grade, especially the trainers (Megan, Deb & Sarah) and the endless amounts of taping and rub-downs that they have provided to get everyone ready for Saturdays, Peter Drake for his efforts behind the goals and Trevor, George and Sheep-Dogger for their efforts on the sidelines.

Regards,

SAM GOODE, B GRADE COACH

To all our Members, Sponsors & Players.

Whilst today is the final home game of the season there is still a lot happening at the Mt Lofty Districts Football Club.

August is one of our biggest months of the season! We have the Ladies Day & Fashion Parade on today upstairs in the clubrooms and Sunday the 26th August is the Mt Lofty Music, Food & Cellar Wine day with live entertainment, wine tasting and Tapas.

Junior Presentation nights are as follows; Under 13-15’s Thursday 30th August & Under 8-11’s Friday 31st August.

Senior Presentation night will be incorporating U17’s A, B & C Grade teams & this will be Friday 21 September.

Whilst our only success this season has been the C Grade on the field, it has been an extremely successful season off the field.

Sponsorship & membership has been outstanding this year & the manner in which the footy club has rallied around each other has been amazing.

I congratulate & thank you all who have participated this year as Sponsors, Members & Players.

To the many wonderful volunteers a very special thank you in helping the club turn its financial position around dramatically in a very short space to time.

In addition to this we have created a unified family sports & social club that has an incredible culture.

This special culture we have developed in our footy club is something past and present Sponsors, Members & Players should be very proud of!

DAMIAn HOnE, CHAIRMAn MT LOFTY DISTRICT FOOTBALL CLUB

G’day all and welcome to Stratco Stadium for the last home game of the season, we love the stoush with Mt. Barker and today is no exception.

I have been asked to give a season wrap up, and by looking at the premiership table you would think we have not been successful. I think not. For a side that has played 38 eligible U17 players yet struggled to field 18 players on any Saturday and has a core group of 12 players that have committed to a reasonably regular training regime, we have performed like true devils. This group of lads has displayed nothing but true character, determination and heart - no matter what the circumstances, they flatly refuse to let go of the rope.

As a coach, this season has been an extremely challenging experience. However, as a bloke who loves footy and the lads that play the game and wear red and white, I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved with this group this year.

The team has been ably led by Captain Jonno Graham and deputies Tommy Zampa and Gusty Blows. The senior young men like Brodie “The Cougar” Dawson, Jordy Holder, Josh “JP” Penny, Shano Coleman and Cody Mirabello have also displayed great leadership qualities every time they go into battle. First year players, Adam Carthew, Dylan Radbone, Charlie Birnie, Josh Healey, Josh Hone, Doug Spicer, Reece Dickeson, Justin Reed, Jett Bennett, Cody Holder and Chris Kennedy have played with true grit. A number of U15s have played up to make 18 each week - Ben Zampa has been a regular each Saturday, and Jack Hammond, Harvey Petersen, Connor Milde, Andrew Frolow, Tyson neale and Alex Boksam

have stepped up to the plate when asked.

The show doesn’t get off the ground without the good work of many. Many thanks to our trainer Sarah Bennett, team manager Rob Zampa, runners nick Cullen and Hunter Bennett (who has shown an exceptional ability to multi-task), those parents including Sharon Healey, Steve Mirabello, Tim Dawson, the always colourful Pete Holder, Devon, Ross Coleman, nicole Radbone, Steve Dickeson (cinematographer) and all those who I have missed out who have been time-keepers. goal umpires and on canteen/BBQ/kitchen duty. A special mention to Amy Zampa who has done many hours in the canteen, BBQ and kitchen and provided us with three strapping young Devils.

Many of these players have experienced reasonable in their years of playing footy, and with footy as in life, sometimes circumstance does not go your way. The ability to keep fighting until the final siren is the true measure of our success. MMF.

Cheers,

RICK “THE FOSSIL” BEnnETT, U17 COACH

Final home game for this season and our under 15’s continue to strive for on field success. We have had 6 wins, only beating two teams above us on the ladder, that being Bridgewater & Torrens Valley. Players have been encouraged to learn new concepts while extending themselves this season and overall they have embraced the challenges with passion and enthusiasm.

Pre-season only seems like yesterday…. there have been 32 different players with over 1500 attendances at an overall average just over 21. It’s really heartening to have this level of commitment and enthusiasm show by the playing group. We currently have 26 players being considered for weekly selection, including two under 13’s that we identified pre-season and encouraged to extend them at this level.

Ben Zampa was selected in both the Hills Sturt Zone association match and the intra state championships.

Congratulations also to Tyson neale, he has been selected in the state volleyball team and has been training each Sunday for the upcoming national championships.

A number of players also had the opportunity to play senior colts, thanks to Rick and his playing group for embracing these lads.

numerous players have ongoing additional sporting commitments including; Sturt development squad training, school football, club volleyball, golf, tennis, cricket, basketball & downhill racing just to name a few. Busy lives for school students and the families that actively support and transport them! A really big thanks to the families that have actively supported and cheered for our team this season, and for those willing and able to support with volunteering roles on game day etc.

Special recognition for Grant Baker (team manager), Steve Milde (runner), Deb &

Simone (trainers), Jo Langsford (home game duty coordinator) & the neale Family (training top washers). You are without a doubt the backbone of this team and we are extremely grateful for the many hours you’ve given during this season supporting our players on and off the field.

Thanks also to Michael naughton, Mark O’Malley, Leith Dawes, Rick & Sarah Bennett for the support and encouragement they have given to this playing group and their coach.

The MLDFC management committees, both have been extremely supportive and have actively worked for the benefit of the entire club and its’ players and members. We recognise that without this support and positive club management we would not be able to play. Thank you very much!

GO DEVILS!

SHAnE THOMPSOn, U15 COACH

The Mt Lofty under 13’s have progressed extremely well throughout the season.

Out of the teams core playing group there were only three second year under 13 players and the rest were first year players who have come up from last year’s Under 11’s.

If you take into consideration that the majority of our team are first year under 13 players and the majority of the opposition clubs that they have come up against throughout the season are in their second year of U13’s, I feel that their efforts have been exceptional and should be praised.

It is a big ask to play against players and teams who have such a larger physical presence.

The boys have been absolutely fantastic in learning, developing and implementing new skills as the year has played out.

They now have a better understanding of the game, reading the play, better positioning themselves, predicting and moving to where the ball is going to go next rather than continuously chasing behind it.

The players are now starting to show self confidence in carrying the ball and disposing it to the team’s advantage, consciously looking up and hitting a fellow team mate with a handball or kick. The team’s improvement in getting

to the ball first and also the 50/50 ball gets has been a big improvement especially in the last quarter of the season. This can be attributed to each individuals own gain in self-confidence as they get more accustomed to the diversity of the physical sizes of their opponents.

Throughout the year the playing groups dedication, discipline & responsibility have been exceptional. It has been a more than average cold & wet winter. Their training attendances have been consistently well attended all year.

With two games to go, the boy’s look like finishing the year with seven, possibly eight wins out of a possible 18 home and away games. Their percentage is mid field to the ladder’s average.

Great effort!

The 2013 season is looking to be a positive year with such a young playing group now having a full year of under 13 football experience under their belts.

Thanks to all the volunteers for their help and support throughout the 2012 season

Good luck to the players who progress to the under 15’s in season 2013.

Good luck to the under 13’s in season 2013.

Great team effort boys!
