The boards were such a safety hazard that the students took it upon themselves to wrap tape around them before competitions in an effort to improve the situation. Faced with a problem with apparently only one solution available - return the boards to the manufacturer for refurbishing at a cost of more than $1000 each - the maintenance engineers called on Bob Barr of ENECON North East for his suggestions. The requirements were simple: the system had to bond tenaciously to aluminum, it had to be corrosion resistant, it had to withstand the continual flexing of the boards and it had to be rough enough to prevent slipping and yet not so rough that it would hurt the children’s bare feet. Bob immediately suggested an ENECON customized DuraGrip System. After thoroughly preparing the area to be treated, CeramAlloy CL+ was applied, followed by the addition of a carefully selected aggregate to provide the necessary degree of slip resistance. Special care was taken to insure that the resultant application looked “just right” by carefully determining the prepared area and by precisely defining the treated sections of the boards with tape. The maintenance engineers -- and the students -- are completely pleased with the results.
