Missouri State University’s annual Greek Week has finally arrived! The Greek Week committee has been working diligently these past few months on this packet and will continue to work hard to bring you the best Greek Week we can. This packet will be your

go-to source for everything leading up to and during the week. We hope that everything is laid out for you to easily understand and ask that you CAREFULLY READ all of the sections of the packet to ensure that you are effectively planning and preparing for every

event.

This year, the theme will be “Greeks Go Hollywood”. We as a committee believe this topic will allow each and every chapter to showcase their creativity and unify our strong

community. We are excited to see how our community can take something so broad and make it our own and truly represent Missouri State University and Fraternity and Sorority

Life in the best light possible

While we encourage everyone to attend and participate in as many, if not all of our events, it is more important to balance academics and Greek Week. Skipping class for a

Greek Week event is absolutely unacceptable. Part of Greek Week is showcasing how outstanding our community is; this includes attending classes and excelling academically. As a Fraternity & Sorority community, we should set the standard of excellence when it

comes to academics. To do so, we must have balance at all times during Greek Week and put academics first.

Packet information, event information, and deadlines can be found in the following pages. This is your main source for any and all information pertaining Greek Week this year. Updates can be found on the Missouri State Fraternity and Sorority Life website

under the Greek Week link to the left. We will also be posting regularly about events and deadlines on our Twitter (@MSUGreekWeek), Facebook (Missouri State Greek Week), and Instagram (@MoStateGreekWeek2015) pages so we encourage you to follow those pages for

important updates. The deadline for all packet information to be turned in is February 27, 2015 at 4:00pm in the Office of Student Engagement (PSU 101), unless otherwise specified. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at your earliest

General Guidelines All participants must be an active or new member in a social fraternity or sorority at Missouri State University. Participants must be listed on the chapter roster to participate in any event. Rosters will be those obtained from the Office of Student Engagement on Friday, March 20, 2015 before Greek Week. Presidents must update their rosters to reflect the most up to date membership. Participants must be in Good Academic Standing at the university and their chapter.

Participation points will be determined based upon the percentage of active and new members in attendance, included on each chapter’s roster and present at the requested sign-in times. Members that are in class during an event will be excused from participation numbers. If it is determined that a team’s sign in sheet has been falsified, that team will be disqualified from the event.

The chosen judges for all events will be the primary judges. ALL JUDGES’ DECISIONS ARE FINAL. If you have questions about a rule or need further interpretation of a rule, please ask and contact one of the Greek Week Directors. If there are questions regarding a rule, only one (1) representative from each team may approach the Greek Week Director(s).

The Greek Week Directors, advisors, and Office of Student Engagement reserve the right to deduct points, disqualify teams, or alter the rules at any time throughout the Greek Week process. All teams will be notified of any and all changes at the earliest possible time.

There will be no drugs or alcohol at any Greek Week Event. Anyone suspected of being under the influence will be asked to leave and their attendance will not be counted. If there are no points associated with said event, consequences will be at the discretion of the Greek Week Directors and advisor.

All events begin promptly at the scheduled time. It is advised that participants appear at the designated check-in time. Failure for a team to show up for a scheduled event will result in a loss of all possible points possible for that event. Check-ins will be accepted up until five (5) minutes before the scheduled start time. If a participant fails to appear, he or she will be disqualified from the event.

Cancellation or postponement of an event due to weather or other circumstances is at the discretion of the Greek Week Committee, the advisor, and/or the Office of Student Engagement. Notice of such cancellations or postponements will be made directly to each chapter Greek Week Chair and via the Greek Week 2015 Facebook and Twitter accounts. If no notice is given, each team is to assume the event will still occur.

Any inappropriate behavior against the Fraternity and Sorority Life spirit at MSU, as viewed by the Greek Week Committee and Office of Student Engagement may result in loss of points, disqualification from the named event, or removal from participation in Greek Week as a whole.


Greek Week Alcohol and Substance Policy

All fraternity and sorority members participating in Greek Week 2015 shall understand that all activities relating to Greek Week are not to involve the possession or consumption of alcohol or illegal substances. The Greek Week Committee, IFC, NPHC, PHA, and the Office of Student Engagement will have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for all events concerning Greek Week for any fraternity and sorority member, regardless of age.

Violation of this policy will result in disqualification of the entire team of the event in question, or may result in disqualification of the entire team from all Greek Week events.

Greek Week Team will be subject to disqualification if:

Alcohol is consumed by any member of the FSL community at any Greek Week event, to begin on Sunday, March 22, 2015 and will come to a close on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Any member is in possession of alcohol or other illegal substance at any Greek Week event.

Any member is observed or cited by law enforcement officials for any alcohol or illegal controlled substance violation at any Greek Week event.

Any member attends a Greek Week event under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal substances.

All members of the approved chapter roster are to be held responsible for the above chapter policies.

In the event that a member/members of a Greek Week team is/are cited for a violation of the alcohol and substance policy has stated above, the team’s chapter presidents and chapter advisors will be notified.


Grievance Form

Grievances shall be typed and delivered within 72 hours of the incident to the Office of Student Engagement (PSU 101) by 5 pm.

*Grievances regarding Greek Jam must be filed by 9:00am on Monday, March 30th.

Grievances must meet the following two conditions:

1. Cite the basis of the grievance

2. Provide sufficient and detailed information to support the grievance

Grievances must be based on one or more of the following:

1. Violation of the Greek Week rules, policies, and procedures

2. Assumed bias by officials/judges in competitive events

Grievances will be heard by the Greek Week Directors and Advisor. Decisions will be rendered within 48 hours after the grievance was filed. Those who filled out the grievance form will be notified by e-mail. All decisions will be final. Decisions may be appealed to the IFC/NPHC/PHA Presidents and Council Advisors.

Rules and Regulations:

1. Assigned items will be collected throughout the week at Plaster Student Union.

a. The items designated for each day will be collected between the hours on 8am and 5pm.

b. Items will not, under any circumstances, be accepted before or after 8am and 5pm, respectively.

2. Each day has different items that will be accepted, and only those items will be counted on the day of the week they are designated for.

3. Donated items will be collected each day between 8am and 5pm, and then will be

counted by the Greek Week Committee, IFC, NPHC, and PHA. Greek Gods and Goddesses will aid in picking up the donations, but will not be involved in counting items.

4. Only items designated for donation on that specific day will count for points. Teams cannot turn in items before or after the designated day to receive points, but

the items will still be accepted for donation. 5. For Ozark Food Harvest, only travel size, no more than 3 fl oz., hygiene items will

be accepted. For example travel size shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc. No full

size items will be counted for points. 6. All teams must provide its own carts to transport items to the designated collection

area.

7. Teams are not to disrupt or block the flow of traffic in front of the Plaster Student Union or any Plaster Student Union vendors when transporting items to the designated collection area.

8. The average items donated per member on Monday and Tuesday will determine the seating of teams at the Greek God/Goddess Pageant.

9. The highest number of donations on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday will determine

the seating of teams at Greek Jam.

a. Greek Week chairs will be notified of the seating arrangement as soon as

collection and counting of the items is finished.

No tickets will be sold at the door. This is true for students and family members. All tickets for God & Goddess Pageant and Greek Jam will be distributed from the Greek Week Committee to the chapters prior to the event. Any unused tickets can be returned for full value per ticket. This includes family seating for Greek Jam. Chapters will be invoiced at the last Liaison Meeting (Thursday, March 19th, 2015) for payment.


House and Banner Decorations

The house decoration competition will be judged on use of people as props, creativity and correlation to the theme chosen by the team. The front of the entire chapter house should be decorated. The banners will be part of the house decorations and should correspond with the team’s theme. The banners will be judged with the house decorations. They will be moved to the PSU after having been judged.


All chapters in the team must be represented by the full chapter name or Greek letters on the banner; the choice should be consistent for all chapters.

Teams are not able to alter decorations once judging has begun for the first team at 12:00 pm.

Teams are required to use people artistically as props to enhance the creativity.

o The number of people used is not a factor in the judging process.

Only one (1) Queen sized, or smaller, white sheet may be used as the banner.

Must correlate with the team’s chosen theme.

Team members are responsible for the hanging of the team’s banner.

Once hung, banners must be able to stay hanging until all judging has finished.

o Should a banner fall before being judged, it will become disqualified and the team will receive zero points for this event.

The flag will be a representation of the team and should correspond with the team’s theme. The flag will be judged prior to the starting of Greek Week, and will be used for check in at kick off. Teams are responsible for retrieving their flag after kick off, and bringing it to the rest of the Greek Week events.

Teams are not able to alter flags after they have been judged and returned.

Block Party

The Block Party is a time for all members of Fraternity and Sorority Life to come together and have a good time. There will be music, yard games, and tons of local food and merchandise vendors. Teams are encouraged to attend and dress up in coordination with their teams’ individual themes. Teams are encouraged to stay after throughout the Block Party, and show their FSL pride in the activities that will take place afterwards at the Plaster Sports Complex.

Chapters will be expected to arrive by 1:00pm on Cherry Street to ensure they are checked in for the event on time. The event will officially start at 1:00pm. Each team will have their own check-in table designated by the team banner they have made. Here, they will check in and sign the food waivers. The purpose of the block party is to foster relationships among Fraternity and Sorority Life members and allow for a unified start to Greek Week!

*Teams 1-4 will check in at the east end of Cherry Street by Scholars House and Teams 5-8 will check in at the west end of Cherry Street by the Sigma Kappa house. Consult page 8 “Greek Week 2015 Teams” for your specific team number.

All FSL Photo

We will be moving from Cherry Street to the Plaster Student Complex. The photo will be taken at 2:15pm. Make sure your chapters are all in attendance with letters to represent in the photo. Chapters will be placed for the photo based on each team’s community service achievement (see Community Service section). Chapters are expected to act appropriately and cooperate with the photographer and the Greek Week Committee. Any misconduct will result in a point deduction at the discretion of the Greek Week Directors and Advisor.

Tug-of-War

At 2:40pm, each chapter will have a chance to compete and earn points for their team during this competition. Each chapter will be allowed up to 5 competitors. Chapters will be placed into a tournament style bracket based on random drawing during the Greek Week Liaison meeting on February 27th. This bracket will progress until a champion is determined for both the female and male brackets. If any of these rules are broken, the chapter will be disqualified from the competition and/or points will not be awarded.

All participants must bring their Missouri State BearPass card




Must be active members on the chapter roster and on the list provided to the Greek Week Committee, no substitutions will be accepted.

During the tug-of-war competition competitors are NOT ALLOWED to wrap the rope around any part of their body. For example: wrists, hands and waists.

Greek God & Goddess Presentation

At 3:25pm, the Greek Gods and Goddess will be presented in front of all FSL members. This event will be put on by the Greek God and Goddess Coordinators. See Greek God and Goddess portion of the packet for more information.

Greek Olympics- Relay Challenge (God & Goddess only)

The Gods and Goddesses will have the opportunity to earn points towards their individual week total at approximately 3:50pm. Each challenger will participate in a set of obstacles/challenges against one another, (Gods in one bracket and Goddesses in another), until a top 3 from each bracket has been chosen. Participants will be required to sign a waiver of liability in order to participate in the event. More information will be provided in the Greek God and Goddess portion of the packet.

This event is designed to reach out to the campus as a whole. Each team will be assigned a College that they sponsor. During this time, the team will give a short presentation and mingle with faculty, staff, and administration to show our support for the University.

Event Guidelines

Each team will have an approximate 3-minute presentation time at the beginning of the event.

Each team shall present an award/recognize faculty and staff of its respective college and allow for socializing afterwards.

Dress code will be Business Casual.

Participation points will be awarded to each team if the teams meet the representation quota and the presentation criteria.

o Representation quota is all six required members checking in, performing presentation, and remaining at the event for the entirety of the event, and checking out at the conclusion of the event.

Tables will be set up along the perimeter of the room for each team to have meet and greet presentations with faculty members outside the oral presentations.

o Tables will be assigned by the Greek Week Committee.

Presentation

Approximately 3 minutes long

One or more representatives from each team will speak on behalf of the chapters that make up each team. The six representatives from the team must stand with the presenter during the duration of the presentation.

The Greek Week Committee will provide each team with a set of facts or previous/current honors about specific college, faculty, or staff that should be incorporated into the presentation.

Plaque is presented to each of the College, factuality, or staff at the end of the presentation.

Speech must include:

o “On behalf of <the team name here>, we would like to appreciate <college name here>…”

o Current awards/ reconnections

The 15 minutes before presentations will be used to allow time for everyone to mingle, grab a seat, and get a plate of light appetizers. After these 15 minutes, each of the eight teams will be assigned a college/staff and be asked to prepare an approximate 3-minute presentation



recognizing the assigned college/staff. There will be a 1-hour meet-and-greet after the presentations.

Each team must also have 6 members present, not including God and Goddess. Included in those six representatives, at least one member from each chapter should be present. Greek Gods and Goddesses must be present at this event.**

**In the case that an attending member has class or other conflicts and will not be able to stay for the entirety of the event, they must have another member take their place and notify the Greek Week committee. Six members from each team must be present at all times.

Celebrity All Star Games: Volleyball Tournament Monday, March 23, 2015, 8:00pm

1. Each Greek Week team must have just one designated Volleyball team to receive the 15 participation points, but each Greek Week team is allowed up to two teams.

2. There will be two courts used for this event at Foster Recreation Center.

3. There will be a drawing at the Greek Week Liaison Meeting on February 26 to determine the bracket.

4. Each team may consist of 6-12 players; there must be an equal amount of men and women on each team.

5. Each Volleyball team must check-in with a member of the Greek Week committee no later than 15 minutes before their scheduled game at the Recreation Center; failure to do so will result in team disqualification and/or point deduction.

6. There will be zero tolerance for the use of alcohol at this event, if there is use of the substance, the team will be disqualified from the tournament and no points will be earned.

7. Rules will be in accordance with IMLeagues.

8. Finals calls are made by referees, we ask that all chapter members show respect to referee decisions. Any complaints should be sent to the event chairs.

Players

- Each Volleyball team shall consist of a minimum of six (6) players (three men and three women) and may have a maximum of twelve players (six men and six women) in order to begin a game. If the minimum is not met, the team will be disqualified.

- 3 men and 3 women must be on the court at all times.

- Men and women must alternate positions throughout the co-ed game.

Game Format

- All matches will consist of the best two (2) out of three (3) games. The games will have a 10-minute time limit.

- All matches will be rally scoring. Rally scoring means a point is scored on each serve, no matter whether the team who won the point served the ball or not.

- The first team to score 15 points or the team ahead at the end of 10 minutes will win each of the three matches. A two-point advantage is not required to win the game. There is a 15-point cap in all three (3) matches. If both teams are tied at the end of the 10-minute time limit, the next team to score will be declared the winner.

- A coin toss at the beginning of the match will determine the choice of court or serve. The team that does not serve first in game one (1) will serve first in game two. Teams must switch sides between the first two games. A coin toss will be conducted for the choice if there is a third game.

- Two (2) time outs will be given to each team.

Playing the Ball

- Each team is allowed a maximum of three successive contacts of the ball in order to return the ball to the opponent's area. The only exception to this rule is a block, which is not considered to be one of the three (3) contacts.

- The ball may be hit with any part of the body on or above the waist, but cannot come to rest visibly on the body. If the ball hits below the waist, it shall be considered dead.


- An illegal hit occurs when the ball visibly comes to rest or has prolonged contact with a player. This is a judgment call by the official and cannot be questioned. Holding, catching, throwing, lifting, and pushing are illegal hits because of prolonged contact with the ball. Rolling is considered an illegal hit because there is continued and steady contact between the ball and the player's body.

- A double hit occurs when a player illegally contacts the ball twice in succession or the ball rebounds from one part of the body to another on a single attempt to play the ball.

- A net foul occurs while the ball is in play and:

a.) A player contacts any part of the net including the cable attachments. It is not a foul when a player's hair touches the net, or the force of the ball hit by an opponent pushes the net or net cables into the player.

b.) There is interference by a player who makes contact with an opponent who is making a legitimate effort to play the ball.

- A team can have no more than three (3) front-line players on the court during a particular rotation, regardless of the total number of players on the court.

Serving

- The server must wait for the official to beckon (blow the whistle and motion with his/her hand) before a serve may be attempted. If the ball is served before the official's beckon, a re-serve shall be directed. During a team's term of service if the ball is served a second time before the official's beckon, it is a side-out.

- If the serve hits the net and still falls inside the non-serving team's court, the ball is ruled in play. If a serve hits the net and does not fall inside the non-serving team's court, it is considered to be illegal and a point will be awarded to the non-serving team.

- The server shall serve from within the serving area and shall not touch the end line at the instant the ball is contacted for the serve. The server's body may be in the air over or beyond the serving area boundary lines, having left the floor from the serving area.

- A good serve must land on the line or inside the court. If any part of the ball touches the line, the ball is considered to be "good". If the ball lands out and is not touched by any player on the receiving team before it hits the ground, a point is awarded to the receiving team.

- The server has five seconds to make a legal serve. The server may toss and catch a bad toss as long as no swinging motion has been made to attempt the serve. The server is allowed only one re-serve per term of service.

- Any unsportsman-like conduct witnessed by a Greek Week Committee member, Director, Advisor, or referee, either while playing or spectating will result in that team’s disqualification.

- Each Greek Week team must have just one designated Basketball team to receive the 15 participation points, but each Greek Week team is allowed up to two teams.

- Teams consist of 3 players. All players must be checked in with Greek Week Committee - Teams can consist of 2 females and 1 male, or 2 males and 1 female

o No substitutes LENGTH OF GAME

- Game will consist of one 10-minute game with running clock - There will be overtime if the teams are tied at the end of 10 minutes of play

a. Overtime will last 2 minutes b. Overtime is repeated until a winner is declared.

EQUIPMENT

- NO jewelry allowed. The only exception is a medical alert bracelet that must be taped down. Penalty: Charged Timeout.

- Casts and/or any other item deemed to be dangerous by the official or supervisor may not be worn during the game.

- Knee braces made of hard, unyielding substances covered on both sides will all edges overlapped and any other hard substances covered with at least 2” of slow recovery rubber or similar material will be allowed.

- Campus Recreation provides games balls only. Teams must bring their own for warm-up. Team balls may also be used for games if both teams agree on usage.

- All players must wear non-marking rubber-soled athletic shoes. VIOLATIONS

- Kicking: It is a violation to intentionally strike the ball with any part of the leg or foot; accidentally striking the ball with the foot or leg is not a violation. Penalty: Turnover.

- Elbowing: Swinging of the elbows while in possession of the ball without pivoting either foot will result in a turnover.

FOULS

- A player shall be allowed 1 personal foul per game. On the 2nd personal, that player shall be removed from the game. A personal foul is a player foul that involves illegal contact with an opponent while the ball is live, which hinders an opponent from performing normal defensive and offensive movements.

- A double foul is a situation in which 2 opponents commit personal fouls against each other at approximately the same time. In the case of a double foul, fouls are recorded, no free throws are


awarded, and possession is awarded based point of interruption (team with ball at time of double-foul; if loose ball or shot attempt then goes to possession arrow).

- An intentional foul is a personal or technical foul designed to stop or keep the clock from starting, to neutralize an opponent’s obvious advantageous position, and contact away from the ball or when not playing the ball.

- A flagrant foul may be a personal or technical foul of a violent or savage nature or a technical non-contact foul, which displays unacceptable conduct. If a flagrant foul occurs the player is ejected from the game.

- When a player control (charging) foul is committed, no points can be scored. - A technical foul is a foul by a non-player, a non-contact foul by a player, an intentional or flagrant

contact foul while the ball is dead a. Slapping either backboard or grabbing the rim is a technical foul. Exception: a player may grab the rim to prevent injury. b. Dunking is not allowed. Dunking during warm-ups, a dead ball situation, or any other time during the game will result in a technical foul.

FREE THROWS

- Players will be allowed 2 free throws when fouled in the act of shooting. If the basket is made, then it counts and the player is allowed 1 free throw.

- Any shooting foul committed behind the 3-point line, on a missed shot, will merit 3 free throws. If a player is fouled, in the act of shooting, behind the 3-point line and makes the shot, 1 shot will be awarded.

- During free-throw attempts all players may attempt a rebound when the ball makes contact with the rim/backboard.

Some basic tenets define each of Steve’s keynotes. He believes that human dignity is easily discarded when students buy into someone else’s idea of the perfect college experience. He believes that when we learn how to empower others, we learn about trust and great things happen. He believes that radical change is possible when we stop listening to the rules others have put on us and use our imagination and learned skills to tackle challenges in smart ways.

God & Goddess Overview: Each chapter competing in Greek Week has the opportunity to submit one (1) person to compete in a sub-competition known as God & Goddess. This candidate will compete in

several competitions throughout the week in hopes of gaining the title of Greek God or Greek Goddess. At the end of the week one (1) God and one (1) Goddess will be crowned. Although God & Goddess competitions are concurrent, Goddesses will only compete

against other Goddesses, and Gods will only compete against other Gods.

***The Greek God & Goddess Application is due Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Liaison Meeting at 8:30pm in PSU 313

God & Goddess Requirements

1. Contestants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 from Fall 2014 and be in good standing with their affiliated chapter and Missouri State University.

2. Contestants must pay a $25 entry fee in a check made out to the Greek Week

Committee. 3. Contestants must attend the informational meeting on Thursday, March 5, which

will begin at 8:30 PM in PSU 313. Information about the contest and Greek Week

will be provided at this time. If you cannot attend, a representative can be sent in your place with the approval of the Greek God and Goddess Chairs. Failure to be represented at this meeting will result in a ten-point deduction of points.

4. Each contestant must be available for: (class is an exception; however a class schedule must be provided to the Greek God and Goddess Chairs).

5. Contestants will wear a sash with chapter’s name on it during all Greek Week events. Failure to wear the sash at required events will result in the candidate losing five (5) participation points for the event. The maximum amount of

points for attending the mandatory events is fifteen (15) points, if the candidate does not wear their sash they will only receive ten (10) points for attending.

6. Contestants agree to maintain a pro-FSL attitude and represent their chapter and

the entire FSL community in a tasteful and honorable manner throughout the entire week of Greek Week.

7. All candidates are expected to attend all scheduled classes during Greek Week.

They MUST go to class and are not permitted to skip class for any activity. Class schedules will be turned in with Greek God & Goddess Application on Thursday, February 12, 2015. Arrangements will be made if activities and class conflict,




though rehearsal and the pageant are mandatory. If a candidate is caught skipping class, he or she will be disqualified from the competition. These rules also apply to

all of the assistants helping candidates with the Greek God & Goddess Pageant. Candidates will not ask faculty to miss class.

8. Greek God & Goddess participants and individual chapter Greek Week Chairs are

required to attend all meetings. Chapter Greek Week Chairs are not required at rehearsals.

9. All God and Goddess candidates must check-in and check-out with the God and

Goddess chairs, or Directors if the chairs are not available, for each mandatory event.

Kick-Off

Sashes All God & Goddess candidates will be asked to create a sash they will wear at all events throughout the week. We ask these sashes clearly state the candidate’s name and chapter

they represent (i.e. Greek Letters). Failure to wear the sash at required events will result in the candidate losing five (5) participation points for the event.

All FSL Photo

We ask all candidates for God & Goddess be with their perspective chapters for the All-FSL photo at kick-off. We also ask that all candidates be wearing the sash they have created for

the photo. The candidates will receive ten (10) participation points for attending the photo.

Presentation of God/Goddess (Football Field) During Kick-Off, the God & Goddess candidates will be presented and will be judged on their costume. The candidates are asked to wear a costume fitting their individual team’s

theme. All costumes must be in good in taste and cover all vital body parts. The costumes will be judged based on relation to team’s theme, creativity, and complexity of the costume. At the informational meeting on Thursday, March 5, the candidates will be

required to provide a short biography about them, which will be read during the presentation of the Gods and Goddesses at Kick-Off.

Relay Race at Kickoff (Football Field) God & Goddess must compete in the Individual Relay Race of a variety of different obstacles at Kick-Off. This will occur shortly after the presentation of the God and

Goddesses. Certain designated committee members will be the judges of for this event. There will be a tie-breaker if necessary. The candidates will change into clothes that allow for physical activity. They will not be judged on the costume during this event.

Philanthropic Events

Throughout the week, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community will be collecting a variety of different items for the Philanthropy Drive (more information provided on the Philanthropic Donation page). Each God and Goddess candidate will be asked to help with

the loading, transportation, and unloading of the collected goods on the specified day and


time at the end of the week; this will be determined through a sign-up at the God and Goddess Liaison meeting. Candidates are allowed to miss this portion of the competition if

they have class conflicts. Candidates will receive ten (10) participation points. Each contestant must also participate in the month long community service project which

occurs before Greek Week. The hours will be logged through campus link. In order to receive the ten (10) participation points 5 hours must be completed.

Faculty Appreciation God and Goddesses are required to support their team’s designated College by being

present for the Faculty Appreciation event. If there is a conflict with classes, contact the God and Goddess event chairs.

God & Goddess Grammys There will be three (3) rounds that go into crowning the God & Goddess.

The Greek God & Goddess Dress Rehearsal is on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, in Carrington 208 from 5-9 pm. Please schedule your rehearsal time at the MANDATORY

Informational Meeting on Thursday, March 5, 2014. Dress rehearsal is mandatory. Every

candidate must have their full talent, including back up dancers, costumes, and props prepared for dress rehearsal or will be disqualified.

Minute to Win It The first round is the Minute to Win It portion. The candidates will be asked to perform

tasks within a minute. All tasks will be of the same skill level and will be given at random. There are no assistants allowed in this portion of the pageant. The candidates will be judged based off of the speed and accuracy of each challenge. Attire will not be judged in

this portion of the event.

Trivia

The second round will be a competition between two candidates to answer trivia questions about MSU and Fraternity and Sorority Life. Each candidate will stand behind a podium

with a buzzer/bell the first candidate to ring the bell and correctly answer the question will win the points for this round. During this round the candidates will be asked to wear formal wear in honor of the Grammys.

Talent Each candidate is asked to prepare a maximum three (3) minute talent to perform. The

candidate is allowed to have a maximum of four (4) assistants during his/her talent. If a set is a part of the talent the candidate will have two (2) minutes total to set up/take down the set. If the candidate’s talent exceeds three (3) minutes or takes longer than two (2)

minutes to set up/take down the candidate will be deducted ten (10) points for every 30 seconds over time he/she goes for the round. Dimensions will be determined once individual set and theme ideas have been chosen. Sets cannot exceed a 9 (nine) foot height

parameter.

Contestants cannot use glitter, fire, confetti, or any materials that the chairs deem inappropriate. If there are questions please contact the god and goddess chairs.

All talents and sets must be officially approved by Greek God and Goddess chairs on Thursday, March 5, 2014, at the God & Goddess Informational Meeting. The candidate is

also required to attend the mandatory final dress rehearsal Wednesday, March 25, 2014. Candidates must be at Juanita K. Hammons Hall 45 minutes prior to the event the night of the pageant. Class conflicts will be excused. The talents will be judged on creativity,

crowd participation, neatness, and complexity of the talent. Talents should be in good taste and show values reflected by chapter representative.

Greek Jam

All candidates must be a part of Greek Jam. If candidates are injured and unable to be a part of Greek Jam, a doctor’s note must be presented to the Greek God & Goddess chairs. The candidate is still required to attend Greek Jam and wear his/her sash throughout the

event. For candidates competing in Greek Jam, sashes must be worn at the event, except during performances.

Please thoroughly read through the rules and regulations for the 2015 Greek God and Goddess Pageant

and fill out the form accordingly.

Rules:

1. DRESS CODE

a. The God and Goddess chairs, directors, advisor, and Office of Student Engagement must

approve all costumes and clothing prior to the event.

i. No nudity

ii. No costumes with inappropriate, suggestive, or explicit content as deemed so by

the Greek Week Committee or judges.

2. TALENT ETIQUETTE AND BEHAVIOR

a. The talent to be performed by contestants must be approved by the Greek God and

Goddess Chairs prior to the event. If the approved talent is changed when the

contestant goes on stage, the contestant will be disqualified from the competition.

b. The contestant performing the talent is allowed to have no more than four (4) people

assisting them (i.e. backup dancers, singers, helping with props etc.)

c. The talent may be a maximum of three (3) minutes long.

d. NO profanity or other inappropriate language as deemed so by the Greek Week

Committee or judges (i.e., crude jokes, references, etc).

e. ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BE SOBER in order to participate in the competition. If

contestants are intoxicated, they WILL BE REMOVED and DISQUALIFIED from the

event and the entire competition. Zero tolerance.

3. AUDIENCE ETIQUETTE AND BEHAVIOR

a. Please inform fellow chapter members in attendance at the event that if their actions are

out of line, they will be removed from the audience. The associated contestant will

receive a thirty (30) point deduction.

b. All audience members must be sober.

Any actions violating Rules 1 or 2 will result in expulsion from competition and automatic

disqualification. THE PERFORMER(S) WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE STAGE IMMEDIATELY!

NOTE: Please remember that you are representing your individual chapter AND the entire

Fraternity and Sorority Life community at Missouri State University, so keep your dress, talent, and behavior appropriate!

This fun, new event is designed to get more FSL members involved in Greek Week and

should contain friendly and relaxed competition. Teams must have at least one (1) trivia team to earn points.


1. Each Greek Week team may enter up to two (2) trivia teams.

2. Each trivia team will consist of six (6) teammates.

3. Trivia will be Family Feud style.

4. The Greek Week Committee will release a survey to the FSL community to

determine the answers for the Family Feud event. If it is determined any team is encouraging members to answer questions collectively in an attempt to gain a competitive advantage, the team’s answers will be omitted from the event and the

team’s trivia team will be disqualified from the event.

5. Two teams will be feuding at once.

6. One person will start the round at the buzzer. A question will be asked, and who ever ‘buzzes’ first, answers. If the answer given is the #1 answer, the player will choose to give the question to the other team, or take it and their own team play. If

the answer is not #1 on the board, the opponent will have a change to guess. If their answer is more popular than the previous answer, that person gets the to choose to give the round to the other team, or keep it for themselves.

7. The team giving answers for the round will have a maximum three strikes. Strikes are received when a team gives an answer that is not on the survey. If the team gets to three strikes before giving all the answers correctly, the round moves to the other

team, and if they guess one more answer on the board, the second team will receive the points.

8. The first and second question will be worth single points; the third question will be worth double points. Whichever team gets to 300 points first will move on.

9. Cell phones and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited at the tables. Should

it be necessary for you to use your cell phone for a call, you are asked to leave the room and will not be permitted re-entry until the end of that round.

10. Event Chairs have final say on any disputed answers.

11. There is zero tolerance for the use of alcohol at this event. Failure to abide by this rule will result in disqualification from the tournament and no participation points

will be earned.

Greek Jam

Rules & Regulations:

Maximum of 50 members per team will be allowed to participate in the performance. A list of all participants, performers, and stage crew will need to be given to the Committee at the March 19 Liaison meeting at 8:30pm in PSU 313.

All chapters in the team must have the opportunity to participate; if this becomes an issue, contact the event chairs and they will handle the situation. Each chapter in the team is permitted equal representation. If at any time a chapter feels

uncomfortable with how the spots are filled in their team, contact the event chairs.

Dancers are required to buy tickets for the event.

All family tickets will be pre-sold.

Alcohol, drugs, or any other illegal substances are NOT permitted under any circumstances at the dress rehearsal or the performance. Dancers will check-in

individually with a member of the Greek Week Committee and any dancer found to be intoxicated will be asked to leave and not be permitted to perform. In addition,

teams will not be able to place in the event. Further consequences may be given at the discretion of the event chairs, Greek Week Directors, and Greek Week advisor.

No outside assistance may be used when choreographing dances. Only Active and new chapter members may be involved in choreographing the dances. No previous

dances may be used. If a team is found to have used outside assistance in choreographing their routine, the team will be disqualified.

Three (3) copies of your CD are required to the Liaison Meeting on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 8:30 pm in PSU 313. Your CDs need to be labeled with all the chapters in the team, your sub-theme, performance number, and an emergency contact number.

The rehearsal is MANDATORY and will take place on Friday, March 27 from 4:00pm to11:30pm. Rehearsal schedule is included in the packet. Any conflicts should be addressed with the event chairs. Each team will receive 45 minutes for

their rehearsal; if you exceed this time you will be deducted points.

o Each team will receive 45 minutes for their rehearsal.

No practicing may be done in the performance space prior to the dress rehearsal.

Tennis shoes, dance shoes, or bare feet are the only shoes allowed during the performance. No Sperry's, tap shoes, combat boots, or any shoe that might slip easily.

Practices may begin on January 25 and only occur a maximum of ten (10) hours a week up until the week of Greek Week. During Greek Week there can be unlimited practice.

Each team has eight (8) minutes maximum for their performance. An additional five

(5) minutes will be given for combined set up and take down. For example: a team may take three (3) minutes to set up, but only two (2) minute to take everything down.

Time starts as soon as you enter the performance space and ends when all participants, props and costumes are out of the performance space.


Only members of the chapters in the team may be on the floor during the routine. In addition to the 50 dancers, each team may have five (5) non-dancing members to help with the set-up and take down of props, costumes, etc. These members need

to be in visible chapter letters.

In terms of stunts, basket tosses or holding someone at a full extension above someone’s head will not be permitted. All stunts must be submitted by March 6,

2015 by 4:00pm in the Office of Student Engagement in order to be approved by the Greek Week Directors and Advisor. Please submit these stunts in video on a flash drive. The last day for stunt changes is March 18, 2015 at 4:00pm in the

OSE. After March 18, no stunts can be changed, unless noted by the Greek Week Committee.

Stunts that were not approved by the directors that are still included in the performance will warrant point deduction and team captains will be notified of this immediately.

Please see the score sheet for judging categories.

Do not leave trash in the stands (dancers or audience members). Please clear the dance space of any trash, props, costumes, glitter, etc. before leaving the space. Anything left after the performance will result in point deduction.

Disrespect towards other chapters/teams/Greek Week Committee members will

NOT be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to any verbal comments, booing at the events, poor sportsmanship, misconduct via social networking, etc. This will result in serious point deduction and is at the discretion of the Greek Week

Directors and Advisor. Team captains will be notified immediately.

Sets must be built to be sturdy, durable, and transportable.

Sets cannot exceed eight (8) feet tall. If your team would like to build the set into multiple pieces, you may; however, it cannot be taller than 12 feet tall when put

together. The set cannot exceed the width of two double doors. If a set exceeds height or width limits, points will be deducted at the discretion of the Greek Week Committee, Directors, and Advisor and/or the team will be disqualified. The set

will also have weight limits that will be at the discretion of the Greek Jam chairs.

Performers are not to sit or stand on any structure that exceeds 8 feet tall.

Sets will be measured at Greek Jam rehearsals on March 27, 2015.

Greek Jam Rehearsal Regulations

Due February 27, 2015 at 4:00pm to PSU 101 (OSE)

The following rules are in place to keep all participants safe and free of injury. These rules will be in place for all practices, the dress rehearsal, and the actual event.

1. Practice may begin on January 25 and teams should practice no more than ten

(10) hours per week up until Greek Week. There may be unlimited practice the week of Greek Week.

2. All participants must wear proper clothing.

3. All participants must wear proper shoes or bare feet during all rehearsals and performances.

4. All dance moves should be choreographed to keep all dancers safe and to prevent harm. Any potentially un-safe stunts will be documented and approved by the Greek Week Committee.

5. It is suggested that each chapter have a safety waiver for each participant in case of any injury.

The committee is not liable for any injury that occurs during any practices, the dress rehearsal, or the actual event.
