ThisguidewillprovideyouwithimportantdetailsregardingyouracademicprogramforMSinTechnologyManagement.Pleasefamiliarizeyourselfwiththisinformation.Ifyouhaveanyquestionsregardingyouracademicrequirements,pleasefeelfreetocontacttheMSTMstaff.FollowingyouracademicprogramisvitaltoensuringyoursuccessfulcompletionoftheMSinTechnologyManagementprogram.

MSTMHonorCodeTheIllinoisMSTMcommunitybelievesthathonestyandintegrityarequalitiesnecessaryforrewardingacademicandprofessionalexperiences.ThepurposeoftheHonorCodeisthereforetoexpressacommitmenttopromoteprinciplesofhonesty,integrityandtrustamongIllinoisMSTMstudents.Therefore,priortoenteringtheprogram,eachstudentisaskedtocommittotheprinciplesofthisHonorCodeand,byacceptingadmission,agreestoabidebytheCode.

TheHonorCoderequiresthateachstudentactwithintegrityinallacademicactivitiesandthateachstudentendeavorstoholdhisorherpeerstothesamestandard.

ExamplesofviolationsoftheHonorCodeinclude:

• Lying-Lyingincludesknowinglycommunicatinganuntruthinordertogainanunfairacademicadvantageorneglectingtodivulgeinformationwhenunderthecircumstancesapersonofintegritywouldbeexpectedtodisclosethematter.

• Cheating/fraud–Cheating/fraudincludesusingunauthorizedmaterialstocompleteanassignment;copyingtheworkofanotherstudent,orrepresentinganother'sworkasone'sownwork(plagiarism);falsifyingone'sidentitybyhavinganotherpersontakeanexam;unauthorizedprovidingofmaterialsorinformationtoothersduringexams;andanyotheractivitywhichgivesastudentanunfairacademicadvantage.Allcommunications,written,oralorotherwise,amongstudentsduringexaminations,areforbidden,asistheuseofnotes,books,calculatorsorotherwrittenmaterialexceptwhenapprovedbytheinstructor.

• Stealing-Studentsarerequiredtosubmittheirownwork.Ideas,data,directquotations,paraphrasing,oranyotherincorporationoftheworkofothersmustbeclearlyreferenced.Todootherwiseconstituteplagiarism,whichisusingtheworkofanotherwithoutgivingpropercredit.

UponwitnessingaviolationoftheHonorCode,astudenthasamoralobligationtoinformthestudentwhoseconductisbelievedtobeinviolationoftheCodethattheCodehasbeenviolated.Thestudentalsohastherighttoinformamemberofthefaculty,and/ormaysubmitawrittencomplainttotheDirectoroftheprogram.AviolationofthisagreementisaseriousmatterthatissubjecttodisciplinarysanctionsimposedbytheInstructorandtheDirectoroftheprogram.

MSTMCodeofConduct

Studentsareexpectedinalloftheiractionstoreflectpersonalhonesty,integrityandrespectforothers.Moreover,asmembersofadistinctivelyacademiccommunity,IllinoisMSTMstudentsmustadheretothenormsofaseriousintellectualcommunity.Moreparticularly,anIllinoisMSTMstudent'sresponsibilitiesinclude:

• adutytorespecttheintegrityofallmembersoftheIllinoisMSTMcommunitybyavoidingallformsofforce,violenceorintimidation,includingsexualharassment;

• adutytorespectthepropertyandrightsofothers;and• adutytorespectandpreservethequalityofacademicfacilities.

RespectforOthersStudentshaveanobligationtomaintainalearningandcommunityenvironmentthatishumane,fair,andresponsible.Thisincludesbehaviorthatisconsistentwithequaltreatmentwithoutregardtoage,citizenshipstatus,color,disability,maritalorparentalstatus,nationalorigin,sexorsexualorientation,race,orreligion.Conductthatinterfereswiththerightsofanotherorcreatesanatmosphereofintimidationordisrespectisinconsistentwiththeenvironmentoflearningandcooperationthattheprogramrequires.Sexualharassment,whichincludesalltypesofinappropriatesexualadvances,verbalorphysical,willnotbetolerated.AcademicFacilitiesStudentshavearesponsibilitytopreservethequalityofclassroomsandpublicspace.Thisresponsibilityextends,forexample,tosuchthingsasdisposalofone'sfoodandtrash,toreportingproblemstothebuildingmaintenancemanager,tomaintenanceofappropriatelevelofnoiseinstudyareas,andnotificationtoappropriatesecuritypersonnelofsuspiciouspersonsinthefacility.ComputerFacilitiesAccesstoIllinoisMSTMcomputingandnetworkingresources,includinghardware,software,computer-basedfilesanddata,theCollegeofBusinessnetworkandothernetworksreachedviaCollegeofBusinessfacilities,islimitedtoauthorizedusersandisforapprovedpurposesonly.Thecopyingofsoftware,theunauthorizedinstallationofsoftware,andtheunauthorizedreconfigurationofsystemsareforbiddenbyCollegepolicy.SuchactivitywouldthereforeconstituteanexampleoffailuretorespectthepropertyandrightsofothersandisexpresslyforbiddenunderthisCode.

EachstudentisexpectedtousetheCollegeofBusiness’scomputingresourcesinanethicalandlegalmannerandhasthefollowingresponsibilities:

• adutytopreservethequalityandcleanlinessofcomputingandnetworkingfacilities;• adutytoutilizethecomputingresourcesforthesolepurposeoffacilitatinghisorherworkasan

MSTMstudent;• adutytorespecttheprivacyandreasonablepreferencesofotherusers,includingtheprivacyof

theiraccountsanddataandanyconfidentialorprivilegedinformationtowhichthestudentmayhaveaccess;and

• adutytomaintaintheintegrityandsecurityofthesystemsandnetwork,includingthesafeguardingofpasswords,codesandotherprivilegedinformation.

• adutytouseemailcommunicationsinarespectfulandappropriatemanner.

FailuretoabidebytheserulesmayresultinreferraltotheDirectoroftheIllinoisMSTMprogramand/orlocallawenforcementauthorities.ConductthatviolatestheCodemaybesubjecttobothprogramanduniversitydisciplineand/orpublicsanctionsascircumstancesmaywarrant.
