Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Philosophy and Goals Goals

I base my teaching on the belief that the only way to learn computers is to practice . The real learning comes through one's own efforts at finishing specific activities in computer. This is achieved mostly through class individual assignments, but also through in-class team works projects. I view my role as a facilitator for this process. I must design the framework in which learning can take place, and then stimulate and nurture the students' development, giving help in terms of knowledge, techniques, and encouragement.

My goals in teaching are not just to promote learning of the subject. We also try to help the students learn to think logically, learn different ways to do a project and techniques, and the area to be improved is creativity in order to be original in everything they do.

Grading

I view the purpose of grading as mostly motivational, not judgmental. By requiring students to demonstrate knowledge of course material, this motivates them to do the necessary work required to learn the specific softwares like, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Flash, Photoshop, HTML and Robot Karel programming.

The grade comes from: Classwork performance 50%, Quiz project 30%, English conversation 10% and finished projects on time 10%, with all the rules specified for each project.

◦ Feedback I have tried to increase communication and feedback with my students. I encourage the use of recess time, and I make myself available at other free periods as well. I collect the email addresses of 10th and 11th grade students at the beginning of the class so that I can quickly notify them specific projects or homeworks.

Teaching Methods Teaching Methods ◦ Class sessions

I try to begin each class with a brief summary of the previous class session, and a reminder of where we are in the software that we are currently working on. At this point I usually ask if there are any questions from the classwork-project, homework, or previous class. Once in a Bimester it is include class project involving cooperative working like science fair and socials exhibition.

◦ Cooperative learning While the groups are working, I can move around the

classroom to help various groups, and at the end students show projects and discuss ways to improve them.

◦ Exams When I create a project-exam, I try to follow several

guidelines. First, I try to include the important tools to be applied. I don't include unimportant items that we only practiced once. Before each project-exam, I spend some time in class discussing what tools will be used and which are most important.

◦ Uses of technology I have used computers, word wide web and projector in most of my classes.

Course Syllabi and Information Course Syllabi and Information

At the first class, I hand out a syllabus which gives the basic information for the course. It lists ways to contact me: my name and degrees, my classroom and email address, and also the address of the school webpage. It also informs the students about the annual plan, topics to be covered, the number of projects and classwork-quizzes, and grading policy.

Finally, the syllabus also includes a section on use of the computer equipment, students passwords and access to internet.
