Mass Intentions for the Week WEEKLY PARISH CALENDAR


Today's Gospel starts off with Jesus telling us that we cannot be his disciples if we come to him with-out hating father and mother, wife and husband, children and parents, brothers and sisters, and even our own lives. This is shocking. This catches our attention. Jesus is using this tone to describe for us how demanding it will be to be a disciple We should hate anything that keeps us from doing what we need to do: Serve God. The parables in today’s Gospel about a man considering building a tower and a king preparing for war, tells us that we have to have a plan for how we are going to live as a Christian. We have to ask ourselves how can we best prepare ourselves and the world for the Lord. We also have to consider what are the parts of our lives that are actually tearing us away from whom we need to be. This means that we have to make hard choices. This might mean stop binge watch-ing Netflix when we have to get enough sleep be-fore going to work or school. It might mean put down the phone, step away from the computer screen and engage in physical conversation, inter-acting with each other. Maybe we need fewer of-fice projects, school commitments, or any other activities that keep us away from those who need our love. To be a disciple of Christ means to live beyond the insignificant things that we throw into our lives and to make time for the things of God. Jesus uses shocking language, telling us to hate anything and anyone that causes us to lose our focus on Him. Our lives are filled with so many dis-tractions. We can get caught in the weeds. Disci-pleship is not easy. We have a great role model to emulate and help us; St Mother Teresa, a woman dedicated to serving God by casting aside the comforts of her life to serve the lowest of society. Mother Teresa taught us today’s gospel; we need to hate anything that could keep us from being a disciple of Christ, including the perceptions we have of ourselves.

as well as an Alzheimer’s Education Program which meets on a monthly basis

in the classrooms.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group will take place on the last Wednesday of each month
