Extent: c. 98 pages Creator: Willis, Thomas, [d.1876] Description: Softbound volume containing alphabetical arranged list of all apothecaries resident in Dublin from 1740 to c.1850, list gives name and location on shop. At the reverse of the volume is an additional alphabetically arranged list of abstracts of marriage licences in the consistorial court, Dublin, issued to medical practitioners from the seventeenth century to 1781.

MS/20 Letter from John Cheyne to Edward Percival

Extent: 4 pages Creator: Cheyne, John, 1777-1836 Percival, Edward, d.1819 Description: Letter from Dr Cheyne to Dr Percival, giving his opinion on James Macartney's 'anatomical communication', which seems to relate to the morbid appearances of fever in a recent epidemic. Cheyne has found different appearances to Macartney, he suggests this may be due to the nature of the bodies dissected. Cheyne has worked on the bodies of those who died in House of Industry whereas Macartney has to rely on bodies provided by grave robbing.

The letter gives Mary Anne advice on how Whitley would like their children to be educated and also the religious community they should belong to, the dissenting communion of Stand Street, Dublin.

Extent: c.90 pages Creator: Troy, Patricia, 1910-1970 Description: File of case notes of fever cases in the annex at Prestwick Hospital compiled by Dr Patricia Troy between 1949 and 1964. This material was used by Dr Troy in writing a piece for the British Medical Journal in 1964 on the use of Ampicillin for treating typhoid cases, a copy of this article is included in the file, with a number of request slips for copies of the article. The file also contains a photograph of Dr Troy taken in 1946, and an obituary from the British Medical Journal (1970).

In this article Haughton argued that cholera travels 'along the lines of human traffic, and improves its rate of locomotion as the facilities of human intercourse improve'. The map demonstrates the contact theory on the course of the cholera in Ireland, and its progressive appearance at various points.

The name of the doctor who owned the diaries is not recorded.
