In a corporate function held on 28th Feb-ruary 2017, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. (UMWT) ushered in its new Chairman and new President.

Mr. Akio Takeyama, the Deputy Chair-man of UMWT introduced YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah bin Che Oth-man as its new Chairman and Mr. Ravin-dran Kurusamy as the company’s new President.

YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad has more than 30 years of experience in the field of unit trust management, invest-ment management and corporate finance. He has been with the Permodalan Nasion-al Berhad and was its group President and CEO for many years.

Mr. Ravindran Kurusamy has been with UMWT for 26 years and has served in various divisions in the company.

On 24th March 2017 even-ing, the ballroom of Sun-way Resort Hotel & Spa was filled with laughter, joy and happiness as people involved in the lo-cal motor industry from

both the public and private sectors sat down for an evening of sumptuous food and lively entertainment.

Making her debut as the emcee for MAA Annual Dinner was Ms Sarah, daugh-ter of Ms Belinda Lim who kept the even-ing’s events well-coordinated and diners’ attention captured.

In her traditional pre-dinner address, YBhg. Datuk Aishah Ahmad, President of the MAA, thanked everyone for their pres-ence and support. She also expressed her thanks to all the various public and private agencies for their support of the MAA in the previous year.

She then went on to give a brief of the current and coming local motor industry scenario with the good news of a 6% first two months TIV growth compared to last year. Among the many activities coming

is the “Carlist.my MAA Drive, Test & Buy Event 2017” to be held on 13th and 14th May. More than 50% of the exhibition space had been taken up by MAA Members.

Meanwhile, the MAA had advocated important issues and challenges such as –

• The delay in special tax refund applica-tions

• New UNECE technical regulations

• Proposal to discontinue duty exemption benefits for multi sourcing parts (MSP)

• B10 issues

• JPJ’s exorbitant new fees structure for purchase of motor vehicle data, and,

• Proposal by MOT to introduce manda-tory Emergency Call System (or eCall) for new vehicles.

After her speech, dinner was served while UiTM Light Orchestra and Jone Bond kept the diners entertained. n

YB Dato’ Sri Richard Riot Anak Jaem, Minister of Human Resources, present-ed on 26th January 2017 the accreditation certificate to YBhg. Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON. Also present at the cer-emony were YBhg. Dato’ Mohd Sahar Darusman, Deputy Secretary General (Policy & International) of the Ministry, En. Nidzam Kamarulzaman, Director General of JPK, and YBhg. Dato’ Radzaif Mohamed, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.

The Human Resources Minister had earlier handed out the Malaysian Skills Advanced Diploma (DLKM) to 30 recipients and witnessed the sign-ing of an MoU between PROTON and JPK for this long term development of skilled workers programme. Another 25 individuals were also awarded with Yayasan PROTON scholarships to pursue their Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM). n

Over 140 Malaysian licensed drivers participated in the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme, organised by Ford and local distributor Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), as part of their continued efforts to increase road safety awareness in Malaysia. Participants included members of the CitiClub by CitiBank, employees of Sime Darby Berhad, fans of Ford Malaysia’s social media channel, as well as members of the general public who attended the six half-day training sessions workshop held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in March 2017.

FOrd Motor Company, together with its local partner Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), on 29th March 2017, named Montfort Boys Town in Selangor as the latest recipient of its Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants Programme in Malaysia. A Ford Kuga and a Ford Mondeo together with some training equipment were presented by Mr. Bagus Susanto, Managing Director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company and En. Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, Managing Director of SDAC to representatives of Monfort Boys Town.

The effort is part of Mitsubishi Motors CSR programme. A recently born male orangutan was named Triton in conjunction with MMM’s sponsorship.

Since its inception in 2001, UMWT had spent more than RM 6 million for the programme. TEY is one of UMWT’s CSR activities and is a community-level project involving multiple stakeholders including the local councils, governmental agencies, community leaders, local residents and private companies.
