Introduction to MS Excel• Microsoft Excel is a program that is specifically designed to organize data in tables and to analyze the tabulated data.

• Excel is the world’s most widely used spreadsheet program, and is part of Microsoft Office Suite.

• It performs numerical calculations, and is very useful for non-numerical applications.

• Excel also provides the facility to convert the worksheet data into various charts, such as bar, pie, 2-dimensional etc.

• Excel comes with a worksheet having 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns.

Starting MS Excel• Click the start button on the taskbar.

• Select All Programs.

• Move the mouse-pointer over the Microsoft Office and click the left mouse –button.

• Move the mouse pointer over Microsoft Excel 2007 and click the left mouse –button.

Rows are named as 1,2,3,4,5 and so on.Columns are named as A,B,C,D and so on.Cell is named as A1, B1, C1.

Cell Pointer

In Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, when the mouse-pointer is clicked at any place, a

cell-pointer appears. Default address is A1.
