  •    Mrs. Verlanic Mrs. Verlanic is the new guidance counselor at Butte Central. Before working at Butte Central Mrs. Verlanic worked

at Powell County High School as a counselor for three years, gaining a great deal of high school experience. She also

worked in Anaconda as an elementary counselor for several years. When attaining her master’s degree in school

counseling from ISU (Idaho State Univ), she worked in a

collegiate counseling capacity as a college advisor in

enrollment planning and scheduling. Mrs. Verlanic hopes to

help Butte Central by working together with Mr. Williams to

continue expanding the dual-credit program. She also hopes to

help the seniors in every way possible to earn scholarships

available to them and help provide direction to them in regard

to their future pursuits. She especially loves getting to pray with

students at Central, something she wasn’t able to do in her

former professional positions. Her hope is to get to know each

student personally. She has spent 20 years in education and

shared that she knows she is blessed to have such a rewarding

career, working with students. As you can see Mrs. Verlanic is

    a very experienced counselor.

Football The maroons went on a 2-0 streak after a tough start of the season. Homecoming was the spark that started the fire to the butte central maroon. They played Corvallis for that initial game which ended 38-6. The maroons shut down the blue devils for three straight quarters and put high number on the board. The second game against the Stevensville yellow jackets was even more exciting due to the fact that it was such a high scoring game. The final result was 47-12 with the maroons keeping the streak alive with some great defense. They forced 3 fumbles and scored twice playing defense. The streak ended when the maroons played the undefeated Libby Loggers. The Loggers dominated the first half of the game but the butte central maroons almost came back in the second half with an 80 yard touchdown by Luke Heaphy and a 65 yard touchdown by Trevor Neuman. Sgt. Ashley Neisess serves in the Army National Guard. She was recently in our school visiting and informing students about the benefits of being in the National Guard. She has had many cool experiences with the National Guard, such as, free college and jumping out of helicopters. She has been a member of the National Guard since 2010. Ashley was excited to come to Butte Central because she “admires our comradery” and “chants and cheering”. Sgt. Neisess enjoys coming to our school because of our vibrant energy, so keep up the great work BC. By Coyt Stajcar
