ACT or SAT? – colleges accept both equally – take practice tests and review PSAT scores.
Students are permitted to select up to four colleges to receive their test score for free (only available
before you take the test). There is a cost to send a score after.

▪Conduct multiple online college searches.
▪Research a mix of reach, target and safety/likely schools based on your GPA, test scores, and major.
▪Talk to your parents about realistic financial options (out-of-state vs. in-state).
▪Schedule campus visits.
▪Attend college rep visits at PNHS. Sign up in Naviance.
▪Attend local college fairs.
▪Try to identify 10-15 schools that are of interest to you.
▪Students add colleges to Colleges I’m Applying To.
▪Students request transcripts to be sent to their colleges.
▪Counselors process transcripts electronically starting in early September.
▪It takes 1-2 weeks for a college to receive and process transcripts.
▪Students fill out the Teacher/Counselor Letter of
Recommendation Questionnaire and then request teacher and counselor letters of recommendation.
▪Research colleges and application requirements.
▪Visit colleges.
▪Register for SAT and ACT tests (make sure you prep).
▪ If you need a teacher letter of recommendation –talk to them before the end of the school year.
▪Narrow down your top 5 – 10 colleges by JULY.
▪Start working on your college essays over the summer.
▪Start working on the Common Application over the summer.
▪Finish priority applications by November 1st .
