-Curriculum Night: You are welcome to join us for our annual Curriculum Nights Wednesday, September 11 th at 5:30pm for our 1 st grade families and Wednesday, September 18 th at 5:30pm for our Kindergarten families. During Curriculum Night your student’s teacher will be holding a presentation starting promptly at 5:30pm, demonstrating what your child will be learning this school year. This is an adult-only event and there will not be childcare provided during these events. Aftercare will run as normal on both evenings. -Clubs: Clubs began Thursday, Sept. 5 th . If your child is in a club they will go to their club from 2:30- 3:15 on Tuesday and/or Thursday. If your child is not going to afterschool, please pick-up your child from clubs at 3:15pm. Club dismissal will work the same as our 2:30 dismissal. If your child is in Lego Club, please provide a one-time $25 payment.     Social Studies: Lesson 4: Self Talk for Staying on Task.

    Please practice sight words, “we”, “ and “be”. Practice letters, “Ii” and “Nn”: writing and sounds.

    Language Arts: We will be learning the letters “Ii” and “Nn”. Students will be learning sight words: “we” and “be”. We will also talk about nouns.

    Math: We will be working on equal quantities, triangles, counting skills, and nonverbal addition and subtraction.

    Science: We will be studying the Scientific Method and review the five senses for an assessment.

    Social Studies: Lesson 4 of our Second Step curriculum is about self talk to help with staying on task and our Weekly Reader is about mapping my school.

    1st Grade Class

    Reading and Writing: We will be reading stories about different animal habitats. We will focus on blends and digraphs (ch, sh, th, wh, ph) in phonics. We will explore possessive nouns and learn about contractions. In writing, we will be writing

    a story that has a beginning, middle, and end. Math: We will be reviewing all chapter one skills (skip counting, using a number line, addition and subtraction number

    stories, and tally marks) and taking the assessment. We will begin chapter 2 working on turn around facts when adding

    and decomposing the number 10. We will begin exploring even and odd numbers.

    Science: We will begin chapter two in our interactive science curriculum. We will learn about the sun, stars, constellations,

    and begin learning about the solar system. Social Studies: We will be reading our social studies weekly magazine called “Are we there yet?” and discussing different activities that kids participate in.

    This Week

    I hope everyone had a nice little break, and I’m glade we are all safe from the Hurricane!

    In our shortened time this week we have continued our Physical Fitness unit. We have con-

    tinued to talk about the Components of Fitness. This week we reviewed previous compo-

    nents, as well as further talked about the terms “Flexibility” and “Body Composition”. Stu-

    dents also this week were assessed on their locomotor movements skills. I used the TGMD-2

    checklist rubric to assess their performance. Popular activities this week included “Across

    the River”, “Sharks and Minnows”, and “4 Corners”.

    *Please remember to always have sneakers for PE. If your son/daughter wears

    dress shoes or boots, please pack their sneakers to change into! Thank you
