Welcome, students!
Welcome to Second Grade!· I will introduce you
to kindergarten and to our classroom.
· If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.
All About Me· My background
· I grew up in Ankeny, Iowa. · I attended University of Northern Iowa and
I have two bachelors degrees. · My experience
· I’ve been teaching for 12 years.· I have also taught third grade, second
grade, and first grade.

My Goals· To give you the academic and social
skills you need to progress to first grade.
· To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.
· To help you make new friends and discover new interests.
Class Subjects· The subjects we cover during second
grade are:· Reading· Writing· Math · Science· Social Studies
Reading· We will focus on
phonics and reading.
· We will use picture books, decodable books, and magazines.
Writing
· We will learn how to write a fluent sentence
· We will journal daily.
Math· We will focus on
adding and subtracting
· We will also focus on geometry and measurement.
Science· We will focus on
life cycles, stellar objects, and seasons.
Social Studies· We will focus on
history, holidays, and communities.
Classroom Community· Our classroom is a community. In our
community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.
· Our class rules are:· Be respectful and responsible.· Be organized and follow directions.· Be on time.· Be prepared.
Homework· I will assign about 10 minutes of homework
every night. Please read to your child each night.
· You will get homework daily. · The homework is due the following day. If
you have some troubles I will give you an extension but you must speak with me.
Tardiness· School starts at 9:00 A.M. · If you aren’t in the classroom by the
time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class.
· If you are tardy four times, the school will contact your parents.
